    Key Fob Issue

    Hey Guys!
I woke up this morning and my key fob seems to have died overnight. I left it in the garage, so it was pretty cold in there but not below freezing. The little red light does not light up, nor does it lock/unlock or open the trunk.

Right away I swapped out the battery with a new CR2032 battery, but the light still doesn't light up. I even checked the batteries with a voltmeter to make sure the old and new batteries both had a charge. 2.9V on the old battery and 3.3V on the new one.
I tried the trick with pressing the unlock button, inserting into the door and then pressing the lock button. Still no light and no worky. Is it dead? My MK5 Jetta key is 18 years old and still going strong :(

    Thanks in advance!

    MikTip,

My car is a 2018 Audi A3, Premium with the push button start. I guess that does make a difference doesn't it!

I watched a few different videos and none of the little tips/tricks seemed to work. Looks like I might have a random dead fob? I will try one more battery before I buy a a new $$$ key. The little red light does NOT flash when I press the buttons... I think I see it flashing on most fobs after a battery replacement, even if the key isn't synched yet.

Make sure the battery is not up side down in the fob. Also make sure the battery is making good contact with everything its suppose to touch.

Ya might want to volt-meter the battery...make sure it has voltage before throwing away the $$$$$ fob.

I put a brand new battery in the fob yesterday.
Old battery measured 2.9 volts and the new one measured 3.3v with my Bluepoint multi-meter. I am going to pick up another battery to try later today since the new one is a no-name one.

Keeping my fingers crossed I don't have a dud fob, although I know it's not impossible.

I find that a lot of these CR2032 batteries come faulty. Try to buy name brand ones if you can.

    Jetdriver,

Yup, that was the case. I bought a new Energizer battery, popped it in and the little light on the fob came back on. Just to be sure I tried swapping the chinese battery in again and the light would not come on. Energizer back in and all is good!

Weird... but I will take this as a win :) Thank you everyone!

Yep. I learned this after buying a bulk pack of these off Amazon. I think out of 12 of them, at least 30-40% of them were faulty. Never again. I buy Energizer/Duracell now.
