2018 SQ5 Video In Motion.. ?!?

New SQ5 owner here, 2018 prestige w/o sport package. Coming from a 2012 3.2 Q5 S-line, one of the modifications that was MOST beneficial for me was enabling Video in motion on the older MMI. I have an 8 year old boy who absolutely LOVES watching movies on long drives, especially old snowboard videos on the way to the mountains, so it was fantastic for him.

Based on what I've been finding in my research of various ways to do this, OBD Eleven being the easiest, it seems I may have bought the only model year Audi from 2010-2023 that you CAN'T enable this feature on..

Has anybody managed to make this work on a 2018 model using the OBD Eleven connector and one-click apps? I've seen it work on 2019 models with the same 5f software number (In my case 1316).

I appreciate any help in advance!

Looks to have been well cared for, congrats. I've had my 2018 SQ5 since April 2018. I've searched multiple times over the years without success. There might be some hope in a dongle device that could mirror Android or something like that. I have stopped paying much attention.

Interesting. Have you attempted to use the OBD Eleven app?

Despite OBD eleven warning that it wasn't possible in 2018 models (with MIB software # over 1000, Mine is 1316), I used OBD eleven dongle/app and my VIM is now functioning just fine.

You don't even need that. Just the 100$ OBD eleven dongle (with 500 credits) will do the trick.

Right, it's a pre packaged one-click app. I can't dig into the coding though, and I assume that's kind of their point.

I got the unlimited plan one for $120 or so on black friday. I never would've paid more than that. I really don't like the credit concept. Have to pay to reverse the mods. Too bad VCDS won't do VIM

There was a very active thread on another forum when the B9s first appeared and from what I recall VIM was not possible due to some limitations at the time.

Agree here with VagCom though... unless there's adaption settings or long-coding proof I don't believe this is possible

well OP clearly did it with OBD eleven which is an automated vag com system so it must be possible?

I wasn’t talking about OBD11, I was referring to the Kufatec module. Those are usually around £150 and only do the one coding change they are programmed to do.

My bad, yes I agree that's an absurd device for more than the cost of an OBD eleven device that has countless functions.

If you can get to a vagcom to dump the long coding that made this happen that would be great.

The best way to show the long coding is for someone to do a backup before and after the app changes. This would show all the long coding changes made using a text file compare.

I have a few hundred unused credits and might give this a try. I'll be passed though if it doesn't work 😪

Not sure If it’s standard equipment, but there’s a DVD player in the glovebox. I haven’t messed with how to get it to work from SD cards, but it seems like that’s also possible, so I intend to try.

Finally solved getting VIM working. It is part of the M.I.B package from mibsolution.one that also let's us update maps with the newest maps.

You can find my instructions to do the M.I.B. flash and maps update on this post.

VIM is enabled in one of the other options in the GEM menu. Posts further down the thread talk about it.

Note: the maps files for 2022-2023 are posted in the above linked Audiworld thread, but the link is only valid thru 2/15. You can likely find them elsewhere. Future map files will work as well.

Did you check your software version of your MI? I know if you have too recent of an update applied it will not work. I remember seeing this called out in the OBD11 app so I checked before spending the credits.

spindlewood is right on point. All the answers are in his post. Take some time to go to the site he mentioned and it is easier than you might think and won't cost any money other than maybe the purchase of a memory card if you don't already have one.

You're going to have to wait a while for MIB3 to get the treatment. Starting in MY2021, MIB version got upgraded.

I have a 23 and I had a friend with obd11 come by and it was lit $26 in credits and it worked in minutes. Crazy part is we tried on an another guy in our group’s 24 and it won’t work! Is there a difference? Thanks in advance

It looks like a recent app update. It’s 100 credits. It only plays media off of thumb drives, I’m not sure how useful that really is and I don’t want to waste 100 credits to find out.

Same. Once I run out of credits I think I’m just going to do what I should have done originally- trade in my old Ross-Tech MicroCAN interface for their new wireless one and go back to VCDS.
