I came across a site that offers custom firmware for RNS-E's (both the 1st gen (model192) offered in the B7's, as well as the newer model (193) offered on MK2 TT's). https://rnse.pcbbc.co.uk/index.php
I have the model 192 which doesn't support SDHC cards......until now.
I had installed, and been running the North America v0310 last year without any issue. I happened to check the site again recently and saw an announcement for Beta V4 (v0340) with some features I really wanted:
-The ability to use SDHC cards
-The ability to have the nav map run off an SDHC card instead of a DVD disc
-Have scrolling MP3 names in the DIS
There are many other features as well like album art, custom splash screens, show digiatl speedo on DIS, etc
The features I wanted are are available by paying for the feature pack. I really wanted the ability to have the NAV MAP on the SDHC card because sometimes my NAV drive gives a disc read error and I believe it may need a new laser pickup unit.
In anycase, I downloaded the firmware and burnt it onto a CD. Inserted it into the RNS-E which updated itself without issue.
I then paid for the feature pack via PayPal and within seconds received an email with the license key and serial number for the NavPoint software which is what you use to copy your NAV Map disk onto an SD card.
I created the NavMap disc onto one 16Gb SD card, and copied the license key along with some mp3 files onto a 32Gb SD card.
The RNS-E had no issue reading both SDHC cards and was reading the NAV map from the SDHC!!!!
I went into the engineering menu of the RNS-E and enabled mp3 scrolling names, show map on cold boot, lowercase DIS units, and digital speedo.
For those looking to add some new features to their RNS-E, I highly recommend giving this a try. I exchanged some emails with Stuart throughout this process and he was extremely helpful and patient answering all my questions.
