How long in time or miles do you get out of your coils? I replaced all 4 coils in my kids A4 in Feb 2021. Maybe 10-12k miles ago and 22 months. Last night he got a cel and code p0303.
He replaced the #3 coil today and seems to be running normal again.
I used Eldor brand coils from europaparts and thought they were a decent brand and the oem manufacturer for vag.
Curious how long you all are getting out of coils. Luckily he kept the old ones for this reason but I wonder if the other new ones I installed will also start failing soon too.

On my '08 B7, the factory ignition coils were still going strong after 8 years and 145K miles.

I never change mine on my 08' B7, 87k miles, stage 2. yes 15yo coils.

    And I had to change my mom's b8 coils @ 31k miles...

depends I guess, FCP posted above only get reputable brand.

If I had to change, it would probably be R8 Bosch coils from Rockauto.

I use the Bosch redtops, I just liked how they're insulated. But my first set I got about 60k ish miles, not exactly sure, before 1 failed. Was also on the same, set of laser plat plugs. Bought the same ones again, and now have 3 spares. Thats including a few years tuned, k04, etc(if it matters). Run iridium 8's now.

Original factory coils on my 2008. Currently at 88,724 miles as we speak. They can last a long time if you baby your car.

I mean, I've been beating the piss out of mine for that entire 80k miles... from stage 2+ on the 2.0 to now stage 3 on the 2.7.

Eldor coil packs are OEM, all B7's originally came with Eldor coil packs as they supply Audi/VW.

If you go to the dealer and purchase Genuine OEM coil packs they will be Eldor. B7's are notorious for misfires, depending on age it might be carbon buildup or a leaky fuel injector.

If the misfire happens at start up it's a leaky injector. In over 10 years we have not once had a premature failure with an Eldor coil pack... ton's of misdiagnosed cars but 0 issues with the coil itself.

Intake is clean, injectors were just replaced. NGK plugs have less than 10K miles on them. Replaced the coil and the problem is gone.
Not ripping on your coils just stating a fact that I bought them form you although they are red and came in a Hudson box. Did not say Eldor on them.
It is a high miles car but try to take good care of it.

The Red Tops might just say "Turkey" on them... best way to tell is to swap from cylinder to cylinder to see if the problem remains or stays but they have been solid to date. If the coil was bad the car would misfire to the point it would barely be drivable.

It was barely drivable. Replaced the coil and went back to normal.

very rare but i guess it can happen . i would say its more often the connection to the coil , when it is replaced and problem goes away people assume it is the coil. Thats why Hugh's suggestion is valid. a lot of time swapping the coil mysteriously solves all problems.

But i guess these things can fail , but it is very very rare that is happens quickly on OE coils.

On my previous B6 cab1.8L, the #1 coil (all were original) burnt up and fried the wires in the harness plug at 115k miles. Of course this happened in a pretty remote place during a monsoon! I hitched a ride into town and bought an unbranded coil from the local Napa. My ride took me back to the car (God bless him) and I stripped and twisted the wires together. I located the fuse that had blown and replaced it with a spare that I found in the fuse block and went on my way.
I drove the car like this for another couple of weeks until I located a new plug and soldered it into the harness. The coils continued on until the car was totalled at 180k miles when we met up with a Nissan that ran a stop sign!
My current b7 (2008) came to me in July 2019 from the original owner W/ 25,800 miles on it. She had every receipt for everything ever done to the car. I now have 84k miles on it and it still has the original coils in it.

I had a issue today , and I’m using search bar as I didn’t want to start a new thread I bought a 2014 a4 premium plus has 110k miles but the owner was a Audi mechanic said he changed the timing chain and had the updated turbo and the water pump had already been changed , figured it would be good to go for awhile. Well I got the shutters and got to the orielys parts store ran code was misfire cylinder 2. So I bought a ngk plug and a orielys coil. Upon taking out the plug it was worn out pretty sure original plug. I put in the orielys coil and it ran fine. But I went ahead for all the plugs so I could change then. Now I’m researching what’s the best coil to get. I see red tops for $49 and some drones for $140. Oem are $195. I’m not concerned about price as much as reliability I don’t have time to be messing with this stuff. What’s the best option just get oem? Ir which red top. after seeing the plug I really feel like the coil may be good. Like I said I’m bust for to fix it now cause I’ll have no time after 2 more weeks. I’ll be gone every weekend and in the road. Thanks for any help on best coils

As mentioned in this thread, Eldor, Bosch, Bremi, etc, all good. No need to buy Genuine(not oem) for 5x the price. Can get a full set for around $100. Black, red, don't really matter.
And,for future help, check out the correct forum. You have a b8.5, this is the b7 forum.

I didn’t use a specific forum. I used search bar key words were best coil pack. Oddly enough I went through 120 threads this was first one to pop up about coils specifically. I figured this question was asked more. Thanks for the coil advice.

Since NGK are OEM plugs, try their coils. RockAuto usually has good price
