    Bought my 2023 RS3!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Purchased my Kyalami Green RS3 yesterday from Audi Nyack in New York. I ended up flying there to see the car in person, did a quick test drive, and paid for the car. Overall, it was a good experience since they sold the car at msrp and picked and dropped me off at the airport. I was slightly annoyed that the "out the door" pricing sheet the finance manager emailed me days before was about $1,500 off from the actual deal sheet. For instance, they didn't disclose in the email that there was an "Out of State" fee of $150 and a $100 "fuel surcharge". Plus, I don't think the person responsible for registering vehicles knows what they're doing - they charged me my state's general sales tax of 7.25 instead of 6.5 for motor vehicles so TTL was about $1,250 over. I didn't put up a fight because I know by law those monies have to be refunded to me once my local DMV processes the title and license for the actual amount. In the grand scheme of things, those are minor annoyances because did I mention I got the car at msrp? Wow, how excited we are these days when we don't have to pay a markup LOL!

Also, I'm glad I flew there in person to see the car, but here's a few caveats I've learned along the way. If you have seen the car you want in person and better yet, test drove one, save yourself the time and money if you're far away from the selling dealer. I had to take a day off from work and it was basically a 12 hour marathon. The reason I felt compelled to fly there is because I have never seen Kyalami Green in the flesh and had to see it with my own eyes to determine if I liked it or not. Lo and behold it was love at first sight! Moreover, this is the first time I've bought something out of state so it felt unnatural to drop almost $70k cash buying something without seeing it first. Next time I would definitely feel more comfortable.

    Cheers!

^^ Congrats on the car. My wife picked a Kyalami green about 3 weeks ago, I am drooling on the car, this is a case of love it or hate it and not the cup of tea for everyone, I personally love it, it reminds me of porches GT3 RS python or lizard greens which are very bold and bright.

You seem to be a well informed car buyer like me, I like to analyze all the details of the purchase. Uou pay a lot of attention to those small details ("sub charges) like the filled tank.. or the out of state. My local dealer has a similar trick which is the nitrogen filled tires and the tracking (etching). They don't disclose that on the price until is time to sign the papers and they squeeze the two charges on the final bill expecting that you don't see it.

Having to fly out of state is an inconvenience but considering the limited market (inventory), the high demand and the mark ups I believe that you did well. New York is an expensive state. I am on my third RS3 now, I literally just traded my 2018 RS3 this past Saturday and I am expecting to pay MSRP. Audi has no promotional incentives on the RS models.

Thank you so much! I made a point to see the car in person because I actually looked at a Macan GTS in Python Green over the summer at a local dealer. In videos it looked great but when I saw it in person it just didn't click. With black door handles (a $300 option) and the red brake calipers it looked off to my eyes. In contrast, as soon as I saw the Kyalami Green RS3, I knew instantly this is it.

Congrats. I would feel fortunate you could actually see and feel the car in person. Many of us are on a waiting list and won't see/feel it until it actually arrives. Were you on a waiting list with this dealer? My dealer offered me dibs on a Kemora Gray coming in in a few weeks, but I passed to the next person because I don't like the color; at least in the pics/vids I've seen it in. Of course, again, if I could actually see the car in person, I may have changed my mind. The car didn't have the options I wanted anyway so I'll wait.

Buying a car out of state can be a pain. FYI, for anyone that ever decides to buy a car in MA, don't. If you buy a car in MA, you are not allowed to drive the car home that day. They make you wait until the dealer gets your plates. They do not issue temporary tags. It is one of very few states in the US that do this. Don't ask me how I know. I actually flew into CT similar to your situation about 3 years ago to buy a used car from a dealer and found out I couldn't drive back to NJ with it. I pitched a fit and they paid for a rental car for me to get home (and delivered the car to me in NJ and a half later). I will never buy a car out of MA again!

I was not on a waitlist. I had contacted said dealer a month prior about a turbo blue RS3 that had already been sold. One day, salesperson called me out of the blue (no pun intended LOL) saying they had a Kyalami Green coming in and asked if I wanted it, to which I said "sure!" In hindsight the turbo blue would've been a mistake for me because I like the Kyalami so much!

Fellow Kyalami owner here. Congrats. I’ve had mine for 2 months and it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. The color is bold and I don’t care. Anyone who doesn’t like it will be challenged to a race. Did it come with the green interior?

Yes, the green interior was a must. Really takes it a step up and makes it feel less A3/S3 inside.

Wow. Very strange how the demand on these cars varies by geographic location. Some areas are 3-5 people deep on waiting lists with dealers adding ADM. Some are actually calling people "out of the blue" and asking them if they are interested. LOL

They can be found for MSRP with some work. Believe it or not, last week in my town in western PA (Pittsburgh suburbs) I ran into a guy with a brand new RS3 he picked up in North Carolina for MSRP. Call around. Check the web for available cars and pound the phones. People are backing out and dealers outside of the hot areas like NYC and California are backing off ADMs. There have been several examples lately. You just have to be flexible on color and options.

I have a deal made at MSRP. It's the wait list for an allocation that is the issue, unless of course they happen to get one in on inventory stock that meets my specs.

Yeah it’s easy to get an ordered deal at msrp. The problem is getting the car.

You are proving my point. With some work you can find a car right now at msrp. I’m proof. Why wouldn’t you just look for a dealer speccd model? Makes no sense to me. These orders aren’t getting filled. Ever.

I took my wife's Kyalami green today at the base auto hobby shop on one of their 16 lifts, I was doing the mid pipes. The car received a lot of attention and visits. They let me use one of the rolling-in lifts and the car looked so good. I heard positive comments on the looks and the color. There was a drifter guy asking me if I put in the "BBK", I told him that it was standard. A guy on a C6 Z06 in front of me on the lift telling me that he loved the color.

Nice! What did you think of the mid pipe change? I have a set for my wife's bday I will be putting on. I suspect it'll help but I'll still be looking at a full exhaust soon lol.

I re-used the 034 motorsports mid pipes that I had on the 8V RS3. 100% positively bolt-on from 8V to 8Y. If you PM me and drop me your cell I can take a small video clip on cold start.

What do I think? it is in my most humble opinion one of the top friendliest, low cost and enhancing mods you can have on your car. It genuinely makes a significant acoustic improvement. The Sport exhaust is not too noticeable over the standard, the mid pipes are a noticeable change. Once you put the mid pipes they sound very similar but again, that is my personal opinion and anyone is free to disagree with me. You can't go wrong with the mid pipes.

I talked to the BMW dealer in Tacoma, WA and they’re quoting 2.5 years for an M3 and not even providing estimates on the new M2. Those order times are awful too. If you want a performance German car, it’s gonna be tough for a long time.

There are lots of preowned M3's starting to show up in the forum classifieds. Lots of early leases people jumped on when the lease rates were phenomenal (not so much now). Preowned 2021 M3C's will flood the market as we get into '23. The new M3's have been pretty much problem-free, at least thus far. I don't think I'd mind grabbing a preowned one with an extended warranty once the market starts to correct itself. The new M2 is a failure of design and probably one of the ugliest vehicles to come out of Bavaria in the last three decades (besides the i3 and i8).

The M3 is a highly desirable vehicle even in a down economy. Predictions of them “flooding the market” seem premature and unwarranted. I’ve never seen M3s flood the market in 25 years of car buying. Sure they will be available but prices will remain very strong. These are 90 to 100k cars now. A one or two year old CPO car is going to be 80k - still much higher than an RS3.

A one or two year old CPO car is going to be 80k - still much higher than an RS3.
I wasn't comparing the M3 to the RS3. It just seemed like this turned into an M3 "waiting game" discussion. They are in two totally different leagues unless you're comparing a fully-loaded RS3 with a base model RWD M3 and even then, the M3 is almost $10,000 more (probably justified given the performance advantage and interior quality). Not including a page-full of private owner ads over at Bimmerpost, there are 85 listings on CarGuru's for low-mileage, preowned M3's; in the "Great", "Good" or "Fair" deal categories. So, almost 100 listed nation-wide for pre-owned M3's. These cars are sitting and a lot of them will probably end up going to auction. How big do you think the pre-owned market for an $80k+ German hi-po sports sedan is? No-one wants to buy these things used... ever; paranoid of out-of-warranty maintenance costs and since most BMW owners lease, the rediculous lease rates are going to slow things down a bit. There's a gorgeous 2022 M3C out at a Porsche dealer in IL for $88,500; almost $10,000 under market with 5,500 miles that has been sitting there for over a month. If demand was so high for these cars, they would be gone in a day or two. Auto loans are up to 5-7%. Even credit unions are up in the high 4%'s when they used to be in the 2's over the summer. I'm not saying these things are going to be given away for invoice price, but this 2.5 year wait thing may change.

Fuel surcharge is BS because a full tank is on the window sticker. Either way, congrats!

I think we agree on more than we disagree. No one wants an old M3 out of warranty (at least I don't). So the only practical options are going to be 1-2 year old max cars that are CPOd. I've watched the M3 market for years (always wanted one, never could afford one) and low mileage, late model CPOd M3s get very high prices. My only point is, if the plan to skip the RS3 due to a 2 year wait and bank on grabbing a 2022 M3 CPO in 2024, I think you should expect that used car is still going to cost 75 to 80k. I could be wrong but I was shopping M3s before covid hit and the market on them even in normal times was really strong. That was when they were 75 to 80k cars. Now they are 90 to 100k in AWD form. The M3 market is never going to drop like the Honda accord market may drop. Regarding 85 listings, the problem I suspect is that people are underwater on them so they can't just give them away without writing a check to the bank because they paid MSRP or higher for it. As for whether a base model M3 at 90 beats a fully loaded RS3 at 75k, that's debatable for sure. For me, the 15k matters but sure, the M3 is a better car all around if you can afford it.

More to the point, we have evidence that you don't have to wait 2 years for an RS3 at all as people are getting them new for MSRP with a little elbow grease. Work the phones and a car can be found at MSRP. Just gotta be flexible on color and options. It's patently clear that Audi is prioritizing spec cars over orders yet everyone here keeps waiting for their unicorn which isn't coming. Anyway, I fear we've gone way off topic.

CT? CT issues temp plates. I recently Bought a Porsche in CT and drove home to NH problem.

MA is indeed fucked up. The lack of temp plates makes buying cars private party a pain. There is a provision that if you sold/traded-in your old car you can transfer plate but you only have 7 days for it. So what people often do, myself included, just "borrow" a plate from your other car and pretend you sold it if you were to be pulled over.

It gets worse even, because if you're MA resident you are not allowed to drive home car bought out of state on a temp plate! How fucked is that?

    Fuck MA.

To the OP: congrats. I contacted Nyack maybe a month ago I think re another car they had and they wanted ADM. Things are changing finally.

Wish I was more on top of it and snagged the car from you. I think it had relatively low MSRP (in $62k). What options does it have?
