Thoughts on Sale to CarMax or Audi

So I had to move to an SUV as I need the off road capability and I’m selling my Audi. Have a 2019 S5 with 49K in very good condition. Took it to CarMax and they offered 39K but then told me to take the car to an Audi dealership as they were offering more money. Does anybody have any thoughts or experience with this? Is the CarMax offer fair?

Audi dealers are hurting for used inventory, so they may be able to offer you more. Honestly, the biggest thing that's bringing the value down is that it's the coupe and not the sportback. The coupes are sitting on lots for far longer, and are growing less and less desirable.

If you’ve got the time then getting offers from multiple sources will probably get you the most money. I sold my 2021 SQ5 to my local Audi dealer this past March. Super easy to work with and had the deal agreed upon in literally 5 minutes. Had to wait two weeks for the check to arrive from their corporate office but the transaction was super simple. Their offer was about 5-6k over what Carmax and Carvana offered.

Thoughts on Sale to CarMax or Audi

Going through the same process on my end. Have an ‘18 S5 Coupe w/ 41k. Took it to my local Audi dealer and they offered me $34k, which I thought was low. Haven’t taken it to Carmax yet but if they offered me anywhere near $39k I’d probably take it (but that’s me personally).

Like an above member said, coupes are hard to sell and the prices of used cars are falling fast.

To add another data point, I went around to a couple of places to get an appraisal for my vehicle (2019 S5 SB with 31.5k miles) and these were the offers that I got:

    CarMax: 42k
    Vroom: 39.5kish
    Carbuyerusa: 41k
Audi Dealer (Houston, varies ones): 41k, 42k if you're buying another car with them
    Autonation: 43.5k
Various other dealers: willing to max CarMax or beat it by a bit (usually $500ish) if you buy another vehicle.

Audi offered 34k first. Then I showed them the CarMax offer and they couldn’t match it . Kind of a waste of time.

I’ve had multiple dealings with givemethevin.com over the last 5 years and every transaction was smooth and their offers were far better than the competition in my experience.

Had a trade in this week, a different than my usual Audi dealer offered 5k more than Carmax, and 3k more than a local Audi dealer.
As was stated above, if you have time, shop around.
