that looks nice. tried one years ago that looked like rnse in my a4 and it was junk. what brand? does it sound good? boot fast?

apparently the maps are based in kiwi format that is now extinct. no chance of ever seeing map updates.

this is a UIS7862 based head unit, of which there are tons floating around on Aliexpress. They come with 4GB RAM/64GB storage up to 8/128. I've used both and seen zero performance difference. Units are snappy and wireless Carplay/Android Auto work very well. The differences between vendors mostly boil down to software (UI skin), and to a lesser degree the wiring harnesses and CANBUS box. Some offer screen upgrades (QLED, blue anti-glare coating) as well.

Cold boot is 10s, but normally they just sleep when the car is off so they turn on instantly. Audio quality is better than the stock HU, and it has a DSP with EQ etc that you can tweak to your liking.

I've been buying/modifying/reselling these for the RS4 crowd for some time now, here's the short list of issues:

    - custom UI these ship with is pretty much trash
    - wiring harness often merge the front/rear amp outputs together
    - internal mic isn't great for voice calls
    - CANBUS box shipped often has issues, like non-functional reverse, day/night switch, or steering wheel controls
    - some RS4s pick up alternator whine, even with line-level adapters wired in (not needed on the TT, at least on mine [non-bose])
    - the resellers know very little about how these devices actually work
    - the mounting frames can require some modification to fit properly without breaking

On the plus side, there is a large an active community supporting these devices on XDA developers, and you can customize them extensively.

If you're the DIY type, I can link you to all the stuff I use. If you want a plug/play package, then PM me and I'll get you taken care of.

    RNSE firmware

I went ahead and updated to this firmware. Seems to work fine and adds some functionality. The track name now scrolls on the DIS and was able to code in the visual display for the reverse sensors.

Now I want to retro fit the parking assist with front sensors.
I might do the feature pack to get the tv input to code out the speed limit.

I found people using open auto pro on raspberry pi and a canbus can make a CarPlay computer on the rnse. I may go that route to keep the quality head unit and be able to keep up with new tech easily.
