    B9.5 S5 Sportback Floor Mats Alternatives ...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
While waiting for our 2023 S5 Sportback to arrive (currently at factory build stage), I thought I'd investigate getting WeatherTech F&R and trunk mats for it now. Surprised to see that WeatherTech's website doesn't show the 2023 (or even the 2022) S5 Sportback options listed. I filled in their online form stating my year and model are not listed, expecting to get an email notification of when they might be available. That was months ago and zero word.

So I went on the Audi corporate website and see they have All-Weather Front, Rear and Cargo Mats as shown here on their website:

The mats pictured above are not exactly the correct ones for the '23 S5 Sportback but were all I could find on the parts.audiusa.com website.

Curious to learn whether other here have found the Audi branded mats to be worth the price. (front mats - $120, rear mats $80 and trunk mat $165). The WeatherTech mats in my 2011 S4 are almost 12 years old and are holding up quite well. Don't recall what I paid for them but their longevity is impressive.

Are the Audi mats better, worse, or essentially the same as the WeatherTech mats? I don't want fabric mats, so appreciate learning what other owners have chosen that are rubber, plastic or similar. Thanks for sharing your opinions and recommendations!

My used 18 came with unopened Audi all weather mats in the trunk and I gotta say I love them. They fit perfect. I just hosed them down today with some simple green and they look brand new again. I can't compare them to WT as I've never owned that brand of mat.

Thanks for the feedback on the Audi branded mats. I'm certainly willing to give them a try! I did place a call to WeatherTech's customer service line and was told that their development group has not laser scanned a 2023 model year S5 Sportback yet. Following that, I took another look at the WT website and see that they have the B9 2021 S5 Sportback "laser measured" floor liners (front and rear) and cargo/trunk liners available for ordering on their website. This begs the question, are there any physical/dimensional differences between the 2021 B9 and the 2023 B9.5 S5 Sportback models that would prohibit the use of the WeatherTech B9 mats on the B9.5 Sportback?

There's no difference between any of the years in the B9/B9.5 generation mats. The OEM mats are okay at best but don't provide a ton of coverage. I'm way over WeatherTech...plastic junk (they fit well but yeah). Check out Tuxmat. Perfect fit and actually look good, feel way more premium and I believe are cheaper than WeatherTech. Honestly they are the best mats I've ever owned and I've owned them all lol.

I checked out the TuxMat website and like their look and the coverage they provide. My wife thought they looked much better than the WeatherTech mats and admitted she always felt the WeathertTechs had a cheap plastic look to them. The TuxMat site allows you to search manufacturer model and year, but only list coupe and sedan and no Sportback option. Hmmmmm ... Just noticed you have (and had) a number of Sportbacks ... have you had the Tuxmats in each of them, and do the Sedan mats fit the Sportback front and rear, and also, does the sedan trunk mat fit the trunk of the S5 Sportback properly? Asking because the TuxMat ordering page shows "TuxMat for 2023 Audi A5/S5/RS5 Sedan --Only fits Sedan models."

    Thanks!

I've got the Tuxmat cargo liner and I like it a lot. I've got a WeatherTech in my Sequoia and had the OEM Audi one on my SQ5. All work fine and fit great but out of the 3, I like the Tuxmat the best.

I have them in my RS5 Sportback now (front, rear, and cargo liner). Yes, you would just choose the "sedan only" version.

Thanks for the replies and pics guys! I had hoped that the sedan's interior dimensions for the floor and trunk mats would match those in the Sportback, so that confirmation is appreciated!

10-27 edit to provide updated information provided directly from TuxMat that confirms the accuracy of Zombie5150's and Burrcold's comments. I had submitted an inquiry form on their website earlier yesterday regarding fitment for the 2023 Sportback. I received an email reply from TuxMat this morning stating: "Our mats for the 2023 Audi A5 Sedan will also fit the Sportback. The set of floor mats is $198.90 plus taxes and shipping is free to the US, excluding Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico due to carrier restrictions. A matching trunk mat is available separately for $115.90 plus taxes." I'll be ordering a full set as soon as we get the phase 3 "Left the factory" notification on our S5 Sportback build.

WeatherTech Matt’s are junk. They are hard plastic trays from your HS cafeteria molded to your car model. I know many people that have got them and hated them. They are great for Minivans and big SUVs with little kids that eat and trash a car’s interior. Other than a construction truck I would never put them in any of my cars.

OEM rubber matts are great for me and I have never seen tux matts.

I have the Tuxmats and they look great in the car and fit perfectly. You can take them out. Hose them down. Let air dry and put them back in. It's especially nice in the trunk. Has a great look.

Just got the mats and installed them. Overall I’m very pleased. The material is high-quality, they look nice, fit well and have excellent coverage. I was set in diamond mats until a member recommended these. I would highly recommend them, they go really well with the cars interior. Photos in this link:

Thanks for the update. For some reason, I'm only able to see one pic (of the rear seat row mat) at that link - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1k3n...w?usp=drivesdk.

If you could add a view of the front and trunk mats that would be appreciated. I'm not a google drive user so perhaps I'm doing something wrong!

Thanks for sharing the gallery -- those mats appear to provide much better coverage on the front and sides than the WT ones. Good to see the heel area on the driver's side should be robust enough to be long-lasting. I've had rubber mats (can't recall the brand) where I wore through the heel area. Going to place an order once I see an anticipated ship/delivery date on our car.

Shipping was pretty good. I ordered early on Saturday and had them Thursday. When you go to buy if you choose the Sportback it will have a message “fits sedan model only” but I think that’s meant to distinguish between the coupe and 4/5 door variants.

Just watched some videos and the Tuxmats come with a lot of clips. For those that have them installed, is it easy to use the clips?

You don't even need the clips, the mats fit perfectly without them. The clips are for small areas that may not be as flush to the panel, but they are really good out of the box.

Out of curiosity, did you end up using the clips in both the front and the rear seat areas? In your pics, I think I spotted two clips on the outboard edges of the front mats. It's not clear to me what the clips are holding together. Is it safe to assume that it's obvious where they're needed?

Every set of mats are going to be different. Basically, use a clip wherever the mat isn't sitting flush against the interior (if you see any gaps). I found that if you heat up the mat a bit if it's not sitting flush, it will eventually lay flat. I didn't use any of the clips and mine sit perfectly flat on all mats.

Thanks for that informative reply! Sounds like these mats will work well and be a significant improvement over our current WeatherTech mats. Just need to get the car here! (Ordered 8-26, in Production 9-21)

They are SO much nicer than WeatherTech. They actually add a bit of sound insulation as well (WeatherTech plastics just reverberate sound). We keep our Tux Mats in the Q7 all year round. I keep my back seat ones in my RS5 all year round as well.

I clipped them in in a few spots. Transmission tunnel in the front, exterior sides front, exterior sides in the back. You can clip anywhere there is plastic trim basically. I didn’t want them moving around so I used all the clips.

Just placed an order for a set of F&R Tuxmats for our S5 SB that should be arriving at the Davisville port tomorrow, and be delivered to us fairly soon. Unfortunately, the Tuxmat trunk mat is not in stock at this time and is not expected to be available for ordering before the Spring per a chat session I had with a Tuxmat employee yesterday.

So I'm debating getting either a Weathertech or an Audi A5 labelled floor mat for the car as all 3 options are in the same approximate price range (~$120-140 or so). I've had a Weathertech trunk mat in our current S4 for 12 years and it's still in good shape, so am wondering if I should just get another Weathertech for the S5 and not be concerned with the wait for a Tuxmat trunk mat, or the quality of the A-5 labelled dealer-sold Audi mat. Any recommendations?

If you are talking about the trunk/cargo area of the S5, just be aware that the Audi version has A5 embossed into it. Some people care about that sort of thing, some don't.

I have a Weather Tech for my trunk and like it very much. On the AW forum there is a thread of folks who have purchased an Audi Sport emblem and stuck that in place of the Weather Tech one.

The Tuxmat trunk mat is so much thicker and nicer than either of those (I have the A5 one sitting still rolled up in a ball from the dealer...it's trash).

If you get Weathertech mats, you can get "Audi Sport" badges to replace the Weathertech badges from Stickerfab.com

Absolutely agree. Well worth the money (IMO).

They aren't a fabric, more just a more plush vinyl or whatever it is. Still very utilitarian and not out of place as a "winter mat". That being said, I do keep the rear ones in all year because they look good and when/if my kids go in the back, I don't worry about the carpet. I do look forward to getting the nice carpeted mats back in the front come spring.

Thanks all for the feedback guys. Think I can hold until spring for the Tuxmat trunk mat to become available. Gotta have matching accessories to keep the wife happy LOL! Besides, I won't be carrying any bags of mulch, cans of paint, or other messy stuff in the trunk for awhile, and if I do, I'll just toss some plastic sheeting for some protection in there first.

Oh yeah, there's also this canvas option with a choice of ~12 different colors/patterns!

Thanks for the heads up CORYDD! I had just checked their website earlier this morning and they were still listed as unavailable, but got an email from them sent at 3:19pm ET saying: "Hi there, you asked us to let you know when TuxMat for Audi A5/S5/RS5 Sedan Black / Trunk Mats Only / Trunk Only ($115.90) would be available to purchase. We are pleased to tell you it is now available, click below to place your order before it is sold out again :) "

I didn't hesitate to get my order in and now have the order confirmation number in hand. My temporary and rather ugly cardboard trunk mat will soon be history! It's been a good day!

5-27-23 Update! My trunk mat was delivered early this afternoon. Pretty fast trip from Canada to NE Ohio: Ordered Thursday afternoon and installed in my S5 Saturday afternoon. Looks great and fits like a glove.

Oh man, just saw this thread. I ordered the A5 trunk mat. Didnt think about tux mats. Paid $137 for the Audi A5 trunk mat. I am not impressed with the drivers floor mats, already wearing away on my 2019 Audi A5.
