I'm sure there must be a cross reference somewhere, if i'm looking for B6/7 1.8T manual front CV axles, what applications should i be looking for to get factory axles? Trying to avoid chinesium.

Try this resource to get a factory part #. There are 11 possible configs for your "2004 Audi A4 Quattro [manual]," starting at 30% down the page. I can't narrow it further because I don't know your engine code or VIN, although one group does leap out, stating "quattro 6-spd man.g/box+[engine code]AKE,AVF." Is your engine one of those codes? Then you're in luck. The simplest and surest way is to get the part # off the shaft on the car, assuming it's the "genuine" part. There should be a sticker on the center shaft.

01A 5mt and 02X 6mt use the same length axles, basically as long as the flange is the same as whats in your car it will work, B6 1.8t and B7 2.0T axles are the same but different, the inner joint calls for a different pn boot in 04 or 05 but the axles the same length and bolts in and works the same. The 3.0 uses different flanges on the trans and are not compatible unless you swap axle flanges and I'm not sure about the 3.2. The B6/7 S4 uses the same length axles however has heavier beefier CV joints but a pair should bolt into a 1.8t 02X. This is what I've gathered after frankensteining 2 2.7t swapped B6s together with an 02X and an 0A3 out of about 6 parts cars.

What's your real question/requirement here? Are you looking for other configurations that use the same spec half-shaft just to have more to choose from at the junkyard/eBay or something? Otherwise, just spec one for your car as configured, no?

I am converting a 2005 Passat TDI over to a manual trans. That application didn't exist in the USA, so parts are a mishmash. I have a B7 01X FWD transmission and have been told that B6/B7 2.0T Front axles are a fit. The same length axles may have been available in other cars as well, but i do not have a cross over for VWAG products, so i'm relying on knowledge of others. I did track down a couple of axles, but only one looks factory and needs a new joint. The other looks fine, but is aftermarket. I know the aftermarket isn't standard and replacement joints usually won't fit. Short of ponying up for Raxles, trolling FB and junkyards is where i'm at.
