Question for IE ECU Tune Users

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
When it comes to reverting back to stock tune using the software, does it switch it to an IE stock tune, or does it switch back to my OEM stock file tune?

I'm looking to Flash ECU to stage 1, but I unfortunately live in CA and will have to flash back to OEM tune come smog time.

    90% positive it's stock file.

I'd confirm with ie support. They've always been extremely helpful

Sent IE an email this morning and I'm still waiting for their response. I like to confirm with users of the software as well. I just want a hard confirmation before making the purchase.

I spoke to Eurocode about the APR tune and they said that switching back to a stock tune is just the APR stock map and not the OEM. Well that's a no Bueno haha.

I know that Cobb will revert back to your specific OE file when you unmarry its Accessport. Also, Cobb's staged tunes are CARB legal as well...so no need to do that song and dance every 2 years.

I thought APR staged tune is CARB legal, so no need to revert back to stock for smog, no? Are you going custom?

Ok, I've actually started doing research on Cobb and I'm liking it, especially since they have CARB EO for my model.

IE has reached back to me and they said that flashing back to stock brings it back to oem file that the car came with. After scrolling down more on their website about their access port, it also states that.

As for APR, they only have a CARB EO for I do believe for 2015-2017 A3 8V Quattro and not for the 2018+ models. Can you believe that crap! I don't even think there's virtually any difference with the 2017 face-lift to the 2018. But you know, California is gonna California.

Main reasons I went with Cobb is because of CARB EO and their Accessport. I rather use the little Accessport to download/change tunes/monitor than lugging around my laptop. If I want to try a different DSG tune for example, I can easily make that change with the Cobb AP. I don't know about you, but I was nervous as heck after the initial flash and wanted to monitors all the main parameters to make sure everything was within specs. The Cobb AP gauges allow me to do that easily without having my laptop as my passenger. Plus, if you want to try something like EQT and you buy your Cobb AP from them, you'll get a discount on their tunes.

FYI - You mentioned accessport on the IE website? IE use their "power link" cable and requires your own laptop for the flash. I believed you'll have to buy the "power link" cable separately? Whereas the Cobb "Accessport" is included with the purchase of your tune(s).

Heavily leaning (most likely ie probably 100%) going with Cobb lol. What you've posted is what I've been learning about and everything is just pros and no cons. I've been perusing the EQT website since my friend mentioned it to me and I might go straight for it. I'm very interested their ecu and tcu bundle. $1300 is around most other tuners offer up for both. In all will only cost me $950. I'm gonna be getting that $350 inflation relief check from the state next week.😆

You should get it within 2 days or so. I ordered it on a Tuesday night and it was shipped the next day and got to me on Friday. Have fun with the new toy!

The one "con" I am aware of with Cobb is that once you go past Stage 1 with an aftermarket DP you'll get a CEL.

Noob question. Once I've installed the tune, is it OK to unplug it from the OBDII port?

Yes. I don't have the AP plugged in anymore these days. I only have it plugged in for the 1st week to monitor things, to make sure nothing is out of the ordinary. The car doesn't need the AP anymore after the tune is installed.

I don't have plans to go beyond stage 1...so no "con" for me.

Thanks! You've been very helpful. Thought I'd have to buy a cup mount for the damn thing lol.

I forgot about the ROM consolidation. It changes the ECU code so that a program like VCDS doesn't know what ECU you have and advanced functionality is unavailable. Just have to remove the AP software, but that's annoying.
