    RS5 brakes' life

I am surprised that brakes' life is so short on RS5.

I did change rear pads after 30000 km (18641 miles) and after 60000 km (37282 miles) the rear brake discs are dead and pads near death again.

I did change front pads after 50000 km (31068 miles) and after 60000 km (37282 miles) the front brake discs are near death too.

I hasn't drive the car on track, 90% is city drving.

On my prevous S5 V8 I usualy change front rotors and pads after 60000 km and rears after 90000 km.

    What's your experince?

I had the same experience with my S5. Rears needed to be done a little before 30,000 km. My lease was up at that time so I didn't do the fronts but the dealer said I'd have to do the fronts within the next 18 months.

My B8 S4 front brakes were replaced around 50,000 km I never did the rears, because the lease was up shortly afterwards.

My driving habits are very similar; I've never tracked my cars and I do about 90% city driving.

OEM rotor/pad life is pretty short--my OEM rotors/pads were done after 20k miles. Swapped over to Girodisc rotors and EBC yellowstuff around that time. I'm at 48k miles now, had to get new pads but the rotors are still on point. Salesman at Girodisc.com didn't even try to sell me another set, he said they should last for another 30k miles easy with my driving habits.

I'm going to be replacing mine in the next couple of months. Just over 30k on them. Going with Girodisc rotors and Carbotech pads. I'd expect to get 50k out of that pad/rotor combo in daily driving...

My 2019 RS5 SB goes through brakes faster than my previous S4s, but I get more miles on my RS5 brakes than you do. It could have something to do with terrain as well as driving style.

My first brake job was at 26K miles. One of my left rear pads apparently stuck at some point and wore more than the others, which forced the issue. I just decided to do all 4 brakes at the same time. I now have 21K miles on the second set of brakes. In total, I'm at 47K miles (~76km) with 7mm left on all 4 corners with my second set of pads.

My driving is a mix of city and highway. I drive mostly in the US Midwest where the terrain is on the flat side (not a lot of down hill braking), but I also took 3 extended road trips to the mountains, and track the car a few times each year. I should point out that I typically do not dive bomb corners either on the track or in the mountains. I will brake hard when needed, but I don't approach threshold braking very often to avoid excessive brake wear.

My only thought is that you must be braking a lot harder or much more frequently in city traffic, or perhaps you consistently drive in an area that requires more downhill braking.

I just had my 20k mile service done with the actual mileage being at 19k. I was told my brakes were still good, with 50% life left. I believe I was told 7mm left in front and 8mm left in rear. I do nearly all highway driving though.

Driving style and local/highway driving affect this life quite a bit.
At 16K miles, my brakes still look almost new. I drive mostly on the freeway, and drive most of the time like an old man.

    Hi All,

Have not posted in a while.

Just ordered some 034 motorsports front and rear rotors and stainless brake lines. I have been looking into what pads to get and based on the 034 reccomendation they are saying to not get EBC brakes and reccomend hawk ceramics or the OEMs. I do not have expirience with any hawk pads before but a friend of mine said they tend to squeak which I would prefer to avoid. I also have no idea which hawk ceramic pads to order if these are what I should go with (feel free to send over a link).

Any reccomendations on what pads to use? I do 60/40 cit/ highway and spirited drives on the weekends. I have had no complaints with the performance of OEM pads but I find they do create a lot of brake dust. I am looking for a pad that delivers similar performance and less dust. All recommendations are welcome, I would like pads that perform great, lessen dust and have longevity.

    Thanks

    Sean

my rears had to be replaced at 30K miles, rotors and pads
fronts are great, but i have the carbon ones, so they should be good for another 65K miles (i am at 35K miles now)
next time i replace brake fluid will install the stainless steel brake lines
