JHM short shifter and solid linkage, how close is it too an S2k 6MT?

I have a JXB plate and short shift adapter in my 2015 S4 and I've never really been happy with it. I probably didn't need the plate, and got the adapter hoping for a cheap solution. I was spoiled by my old S2000 and that's my benchmark, no other car I've driven has come close.

That said, how close is the full JHM setup? If it's close, I think it'll be worth three investment.

    Thanks

Hey! Jay from JXB here. What aspect of the shifting experience are you not happy with compared to the S2k shifter? Engagement force, precision needed to get in gear, throw length, slop once in gear, too easy to miss shifts into a particular gear? Depending on what aspects you're not liking I can recommend a setup that would work better, or confirm if the JHM setup would be any better/worse in those aspects, as I currently have both setups on my 2 B8s. They definitely do certain things differently, and I have no problem giving you an unbiased opinion, even if it steers you away from one of my products.

I find engagement force, feels pretty hard with the plate and Clip, will your linkage help with engagement force? Does it lighter or is there a way to lighten it up

For some reason I never got notifications of replies so missed these.

As for the setup, it's not bad. The main issue I had was with 3rd having a hook to it. After adjusting it the 3rd time I was able to correct it, 4th isn't perfect but it's been close enough that I've driven it as is for over a year.

The reason I compare to an s2k shifter is because that one is simply sublime, even stock. It's smooth, short, can be done with finger and had a bolt action like feel. My JXB setup improved a few areas over stock, but certainly doesn't feel like my old s2k. But I don't have the luxury of feeling what a solid linkage upgrade feels like without spending the money, so was hoping to get some comments on here. I might try just a short shifter upgrade first and go from there, but I don't know how much "better" it would be over what I have now, and that money could be used for other things if I'm not going to get enough from doing it.

Thanks for reaching out though, appreciate that. The plate install went perfect, even if I probably didn't need it. But the short shift adapter was tough to get lined up, and even still, likely isn't perfect.

heres my setup, I may be biased but I think it feels very good... Stock Shift Knob (have a bfi weighted, and a jhm billet steel, but for some reason prefer the stock feel right now) JHM solid short throw, JXB Billet Mount Plate, JXB billet shift linkage.

I previously had the same setup you have currently and adding the solid short throw and the linkage has greatly improved the overall feel of my car. Its very precise now.

    I’ll chime in.

I have the JHM solid short shifter, JHM solid linkage, JXB base plate and a BFI weighted knob.

I have never driven an S2000 so I can’t compare, but my shifts are noisy and notchy but effortless and accurate. I rarely shift super quickly but when I do, I never fear a missed shift. This is not a daily driver so the noise doesn’t bother me, it’s all part of the experience of the every once in awhile drives at this point.

Thanks for sharing your exp, especially considering you had the same setup I do atm. Did you do the short shifter and solid linkage at the same time? If not, how much of a difference did the shift linkage make vs the short shifter?

Mine is a bit notchy and clicks, but it doesn't bother me much so a bit louder wouldn't be an issue if it felt good. Do you feel like the upgrade was worth $1k? I know everyone will have a different answer to that, but curious if those who spent the money felt it was worth it once completed.

Actually yes I did. I had your exact setup and installed the JHM short shifter in place of the stock unit with JXB short shift clamp. The difference with this change was nice. 2 days later I installed the JXB billet linkage, and WOW. Totally worth it. I would agree with the other poster with the same setup as myself (I have a BFI knob as well, but prefer the stock knob right now for some reason, I also have a JHM billet knob I put on once in a while, but it is super heavy). It’s notchy and sort of loud, mine isn’t supposed to be my daily, but I love driving it so much its pretty much my daily haha.

Yes worth it, as I was doing my engine out refresh and suspension refresh, I couldn’t believe how sloppy and soft Audi makes components for these cars (and they still perform well)
I also used the philosophy “I’m already in there, or it’s already out of the car” time to upgrade if I’m gonna do it, why do it twice!!!
