The final stage of my S4... Probably. Mods and builds inside!

Having surpassed my original goal of 10.5@130 (current best is 10.3@133), I set a new one for 9.99@135, and doing so full weight. While I think it can be done in current form with better DAs coming (its in the low 100s in the mornings here, but still mid 1,000s in the evenings when the track is open on cooler nights), I decided to do another round of modifications, which since I dont think anyone has done anything similar, will include photos as I go.

First off, I didn't like the current methanol setups available which either spray into the charge pipes, or the throttle body, as there are MAP sensors and multiple hard bends between the injection points, and eventually getting to the intake manifolds. I decided on purchasing the ECS Post throttle body charge pipes, and then I drilled them on each side about 9 inches from the manifolds, had bungs welded in, and will be installing a Pro Meth methanol system with dual nozzles, AEM controller, and the Pro Meth 4 gallon tank. I spent a bit of time picking their brain on the ideal meth setup as while ive used Snow and AEM complete kits in the past, neither had exactly what I wanted, so the well optioned kit I ended up with should satisfy all my needs (pics and parts lists to follow as I get to the install over the weekend).

I have also been contemplating exhaust setups, but as many have stated, and as I have seen in the past, there tend to be very little gain on German cars due to the efficiency of the stock setups. I ended up selecting the ECS valved exhaust to go with with hopes that it stays relatively quiet in comfort mode, with a little more aggressive tone in Dynamic, while increasing exhaust flow, even if minimal, due to the power levels I am currently at, and may end up with eventually.

Hopefully between these 3 modifications, I can get my 9.99 without touching the weight (I actually likely just added weight). If I can't, the next phase may involve tweaking current mods such as intake setup, adding a 35-50 shot of nitrous (ive run it on MANY cars before, its just an expensive option with the separate fuel cell and accessories) and I was on the fence about changing seats to something like a Sparco or Corbeau setup. While they are "lighter" seats, it would be more about comfort and support while getting rid of things I dont ever use such as heated seats and seat massagers, in favor of a sportier setup. I had Corbeaus in my Cobra and loved them, and dont need power everything or fancy things because I dont drive the car enough to appreciate them.
    Something like these
https://corbeau.com/sportline-rrs/ with the black diamond stitched pattern (not too far off from factory)
    or these
    https://www.sparcousa.com/product/r333-2021

I will get photos and builds up shortly, hopefully with some times this weekend!

Same setup (in terms of nozzle placement) as myself for the WMI system. Glad to see somebody else following route.

Is the tune 100% done? Maybe there's more left on the table there.

the turbo has plenty left in it, but ive always been nervous about turning up boost and/or timing for WMI and relying on it as a fuel or octane source because pumps and controllers can fail, meaning a rough day for the engine. I will send IE some logs and see how it runs with just adding meth. My 1/8 mile times are fantastic, ive always just had issues on the back half compared to the fastest cars due to DA and heat (as well as weight since the faster guys are 250+ lbs lighter) so my hopes are the WMI will keep the engine from puling timing and pick up a few mph.

Have you measured EMAP, EGTs, or checked for valve float?

I find it unlikely the turbo has much left in it due to the very small (0.53 iirc) A/R along with the massive buildup of back pressure.

Fuelling on the other hand.. get a 200 wet shot on there and you’ll be flying.

I have a tuner I trust to look at all of that for me :) when I’m doing the tuning, I watch data logs, but I guess I’ve come to realize there isn’t much point in viewing logs when I can’t adjust anything on my own. The pure turbos can flow more than the tte, but I’m at the limits for fuel and octane without another source, and the most I can get at the pump here is about e68. If things look good with the meth, maybe I will ask for a track flash only with some extra timing and/or boost, then switch it back for the street. I don’t know the specs on the pure 750, but it sounds like you do.

The car doesn’t have sensors for EMAP / EGTs as stock, which is why I asked as I wasn’t sure if you had hooked some up given you said it had plenty more in it.

I think the breadwinner will likely be the TTE810 given IE will be running that turbo for their record run. I’m not sure how the Pure flows compared to the 710 to be honest but it wouldn’t surprise me if the Pure edged it out a little.

Out of curiosity in regards to E68 being the best you can get - do stations typically tend to blend down during winter?

We don’t have access to Ethanol at all over here unfortunately.

Sadly there isn't a federal regulation on ethanol content, and state laws varies state to state. When I lived in Arizona, E55 was the minimum content, here its E70, so you get anything above and below at times. The worst tank ive had here is E62 and I was warned that station just doesnt move a lot of ethanol, where as the two stations I mainly use now are pretty consistently E66-E68. There was a station in OKC 90 min away that was low E70s, but outside of purchasing online at $10 a gallon for either E100 to cut myself, or "race grade" E85 (no idea what that even means), im limited to the pumps. The main goal with meth for me was to tame down the back half IATs since it is warmer here, but also see if that little bump in octane might keep the knock sensors at bay and give me a bit more timing on the big end. My car falls off pretty hard in 5th gear, and while id love to do a setup like yours with a real turbo on it, I just dont have the time to tinker with something I can't slap on in a day or less, nor the resources anymore in my current living situation to fab and build my own. I miss the days of owning a shop, except the part where I HAD to do car stuff every day

Will be following this. My plan is TTE810 and meth + full weight and break 9's. I had the same idea with the meth injection being on the post throttle body pipes. I feel that is the best option for these because of the complexitiy of the pipe route. Wishing you luck !

I installed the charge pipes and meth nozzles yesterday, but ran out of time and energy before finishing. The ECS Post Throttle body charge pipes went in pretty easy, and I didn't have to remove the front bumper like their instructions said since I had aftermarket Wagner charge pipes, and I could access the clamps from the top. I won't bore anyone with an install write up because the ECS instructions are fantastic and have plenty of photos, but here is the setup for the meth nozzles so far. Later today I am going to probably go finish the meth setup, but I just got home from 3 weeks of travel for work and still jet lagged. I also had a 3rd bung installed for boost/vac reference since I wanted one between the throttle body and intake manifolds.

To my surprise as well, Rodney at Pro Meth said the bends aren't an issue, and actually encouraged them for atomization... my main concern was spraying through a MAP sensor though and I preferred the straight shot to the manifolds.

It should be here in a week or two, I’m not super excited about doing it on the ground, but I guess I’ve done worse!

I’ve done my exhaust on the ground a couple of times now. Don’t get me wrong it isn’t ideal by far but at the same time not as tedious as you’d imagine.

Mostly finished, I have to clean up a few things, but I’m exhausted and just wanted to be done for the day. I have meth coming on at 25 psi and tapering to 40, hits pretty hard and I saw 31.5 lbs of boost, so the engine likes the octane for sure!

Mike if you have access to a truck and a 55g drum you can get E100 on the pump at RS fuels off of Memorial in OKC. It is the same price as their E85 and both test at E85 and E100 respectively.

Are you concerned about uneven distribution of meth since you're injecting pre-TB?

I have one nozzle in each bank, so it should distribute evenly, however since I’m not relying on the methanol for octane or fuel source, if it stops, it won’t hurt anything.

It's going to be a fuel source either way. Your tuner will pull fuel so it's not pig rich in boost. You can know knock on each cylinder, but you won't know AFR. I would be curious to know what the difference would be hole to hole, since the manifolds weren't designed to flow fluids evenly to each cylinder. Maybe this is more of an issue for a single, more traditional IMs, where the meth charge hits the back of the IM and adds the most fuel to the rear cylinders. With the b9 configuration I'm not sure if it's an issue or not.

Youre overthinking it. My tuner wont be adjusting the ECU for methanol, and the factory widebands will adjust fuel as necessary. I added this strictly for cooling, and to help on the big end for octane, but its there only to HELP, not to take place of an actual fuel source or octane source. I want the car to be able to run 100% independent of the methanol in case there is ever an issue with the system, but during the warmer months, its a nice blanket to keep performance where it should be. Those who are running it as a fuel source or octane source, mainly those who cannot upgrade their factory fuel system for their power levels, tend to go direct port and need the measurements to be a lot more precise, however as an additive, none of that is necessary. My car runs fine without the methanol and has sufficient fuel and octane for its current performance level, but does suffer from heat on the big end, which is the only purpose of adding this.

So I ran and tuned for methanol on my 17 Camaro SS 1LE that had a Procharger. If you are running pure straight VP Racing M1 Methanol it will change the A/F ratio. If you want the Meth to only be a cooling effect you can mix it 50/50 with distilled water and it will make it a more neutral solution.

If you ever get down by OKC let me know, I'd like to see the car in person. Right now I am struggling with my B9S4 with the most recent IE updates to the Stage 1 tunes to Rev 2. The car has lost 3 tenths and 3mph in the 1/4 mile on the new revision.

I’m only running 50/50, and may even step down to 25/75 as running 100% meth is much more for octane, and water is the part that actually does most of the cooling. I just didn’t have time to blend any mixes and wanted to test the system. I had a terrible time running in okc and get much better times here in Tulsa, you should try midnight madness out here. I’ve also been tuning GM and Ford for 20+ years if you ever need a hand on the camaro (pending you still have it).

I agree with Mike. He’ll have much better atomisation and distribution across all cylinders evenly compared to spraying pre-throttle.

I’ve compared against various others and it shows in the logs that it doesn’t hit cylinders that evenly when spraying pre-throttle.

There’s a bit of a bend prior to the stream hitting the intake manifolds so no cause for concern in regards to hitting the back of the manifolds. I’ve been running a very similar setup for nearly two years now and it has been ideal - I’m very surprised others haven’t experimented with this.

Unlike Mike I do use mine as a secondary fuel system (well, will be..) so I’ll be changing over to port instead.

The only downside of this system is that as the meth is introduced downstream of the TMAP sensors the car doesn’t read lower IATs. This can be simply fixed by adding an additional, smaller nozzle in the charge pipe before the TMAP sensors.

Many forced induction systems I’ve installed on domestic vehicles relocate the iat further downstream to get a more realistic iat at the manifold, unfortunately I don’t know enough about these, or pinning out the sensor to a different location. Back in the day it was just extending wires, or pinning out from the maf on built in iats, but I have no clue if that’s possible on these. I was also worried about spraying through the tmap and if that would cause errors having the sensors that far off, or worse off, cause a fault at full boost.

Well, I tried a run for fun tonight on street tires... thats no longer possible :D The track is closed this coming weekend for an event, so I will take it next weekend with slicks on. My best is still 10.3@133 on slicks with a 60 foot in the 1.5s, this was in the 1.7s and not a whole lot slower, so id imagine with a good launch, I will pick up some on the big end for sure. The DA according to the near by track said 1600 feet at the time of the run.

ECS exhaust is in! I will get a full write up later today when I get some time, but have a bunch to do today before another work trip. Sound is AMAZING and VERY DEEP! Inside the car it isn't much louder than stock other than at 1800-2500 rpm, where it can be a little boomy with the catless downpipe. Construction is absolutely 100% top notch, and completely surprised me! Heavy gauge stainless steel, amazing tig welds, extreme care put into shipping and making sure everything was packaged, padded, and wrapped to protect it. Ive had Akrapovic, Magnaflow, Borla, and some other high end exhaust systems and the fit, finish and quality of this it is equal to or better than all of those. I will get some videos inside, outside and fly by as well, I just finished this late last night and was beat. Install was straight forward with everything bolting up where it should, and easy slip fits, clamps and quality hardware. No bangs, rattles, or areas I had to clearance, mufflers and tips fit well, and you can tell some thought went into this system.

I know exactly what you mean by the boom at 1800-2500 rpm, it’s LOUD. Not droney.. just loud.

I quite like it. How did you find the installation?

Surprisingly, this was the single longest install I’ve done on the car so far, but I guess if you think about it, it’s basically doing a downpipe install, then I’m also very anal about fit and direction of pipes, everything lining up etc. I’ve been a welder/fabricator for 20 years so I’m used to being able to build my own stuff, but living in an apartment in a new city means installs on the ground and pre fabbed stuff. There wasn’t anything that prevented me from going further, and for the first time in probably 400+ exhaust systems I’ve installed, not a single bent pipe or flange, not a single slip fit that didn’t slip and fit, no pry bars or banging for placement, and the tips went right on. I’m actually very curious who builds this system for ECS because the welds and hardware remind me of B&B exhaust, but then the tip clamps and setup for the valves looks like Akrapovic. Whoever it is, they didn’t skimp on anything, including pads and foam covers for everything.

If I drive in comfort, the boom is a lot less, but in dynamic at 45 mph, it can be a little overwhelming at first having come from a stock exhaust. Overall it does sound quieter in the car at every other rpm, including wide open throttle, but my buddy following me last night literally drove out of his way to keep listening to the tone. The videos he took were on a cell phone so the wind noise and such is terrible, but I will get the go pro and mic out today, or when I get back, for some HD videos.

Do you think it's droney with a catless DP?

It’s louder than I like in dynamic mode, but my last 3 cars were bmws with stock exhausts on them, so take that for what it’s worth. Everyone who has heard it has loved it, but I spend 99% of my time in comfort mode with the windows up so I’m likely the odd man out.

So an update on my setup in case anyone plans on doing something similar, im running a sort of "custom" meth kit in that Im using parts from multiple manufacturers to get what I wanted, and ive updated some parts that I liked better than what came with the kit.

My current jet settings are the following:
Dual Pro Meth 3 slot nozzles (they 2 slot through 5 slot, with more slots flowing more methanol)
AEM controller set to come on at 20 PSI and max methanol at 27 PSI.
50/50 Boost juice, but I will be trying 25/75 mix of water/meth to see how the car likes it

The complete kit, if you were to order on your own, is the following (Keep in mind, this is for my power level of 700+ BHP, 32+ lbs of boost as my Pure 750 supports more, and dual nozzle injection)

Pro Meth Stage 2 Kit with AN fittings and lines, methanol filter, their largest methanol pump, and the dual nozzle upgrade
Pro Meth 4.2 gallon tank for trunk mount (This DOES require modification to your trunk to install, its basically trimming some of the sheet metal out of the spare tire area, and then it sits fine)
    AEM 40 PSI methanol controller
Snow Performance methanol solenoid to prevent the intake vacuum from sucking methanol from the tank since I installed the kit between the throttle body and the intake manifolds

You will have to find a point of boost reference, but I ended up having a bung welded on the post throttle body charge pipes because I wanted a source that also had vacuum in case I changed my P3 gauge to a true boost reference (im just lazy so I havent yet). if your intercooler charge pipes have a port, you can also grab it there for boost only. The kit did not include vacuum line, so I just grabbed 20 feet from Autozone and ran it with the methanol line.

Every wire you need can be found in the trunk. I grabbed power from a 8 gauge red/white wire on the left side, grounded to chassis, and used the cigarette lighter wire on the right side of the trunk for the ignition reference (it is a reference only, so it doesnt pull power from this source and wont cause issues with the cigarette lighter being over loaded if you use it). I dont like running LEDs or using tank level sensors since the LEDs require permanent modification somewhere, and tank sensors have a knack for failing or cutting off meth on hard launches, so I chose not to use either. The tank level sensor wires need to be connected together if you dont use it or the kit wont activate.

I built brackets to mount my meth pump next to the battery to assure it was the lowest point in the system, but others have mounted it on the platform above the battery and it seems to work fine, I just prefer them below the tank, or close to.

I am hopefully going to run the car this weekend and play with the meth settings, but this car REALLY likes meth! Having the system come on before 15 PSI did cause some sluggish behavior down low in the RPM band, so I chose to keep it at 20 for the activation point. I may go to the 4 slot nozzles if I max out the controller and the car still makes more power, or I see IATs drop further up top. If anyone has specific questions about install, needs photos, part numbers, etc, ask away!

Seeing your boost levels are awesome and can't wait to finishing my tuning. As I pretty much have the same setup but using the TTE810. Sadly, I can't go further as I'm only running the ORT pump so IE is holding me steady for now.
I'm running the BMS meth kit coming on at 12.
    enjoy seeing your updates !

I was running pretty near the end of the APR pump/RS injectors, but the methanol has been lowering the duty cycle and giving them some more headroom. One thing I hate doing is tuning for methanol since if it fails, it can really cause some issues, but it is a source of fuel if you need a bit more up top!

I feel ya, I used meth as fuel in my GN and it was always in my mind. I’m currently using a 7 and 5 jets. So I think I got plenty for now.

I finally was able to make it to the track and get a couple passes in tonight before the rain hit and they closed early. Unfortunately one of the passes I slapped the paddle down so it didn't shift out of first, and the clean pass I got after was more of a hot lap because they were going to close the track. I was absolutely ecstatic about the launch, however after seeing the lower time and sending the logs to IE, I was told the car was pulling boost. Carter made an adjustment and sent it to me, but the track was already closed for the night. Silly me of course, with wet streets and light rain still coming down, I just went to my spot to try out the revision. This is my new personal best, and still to my knowledge, the fastest full weight car in the country. How heavy you ask? Well I weighed it tonight without me in it (no one was in the booth, so I had to get out to snap a photo of the scale). She's a pig alright, then add me at 245 lbs, laptop, helmet, and all the gear I typically carry with me, id say conservatively at an additional 275 lbs over the scale weight.

All in all, I am extremely pleased with the car, and ive since added a couple adjustments tonight, but its very wet out now, so fingers crossed it dries up tomorrow and I can go back for some more runs at the track!
    Enjoy!

Weight of the car without me in it, and on this time I didn't have my laptop in the car either

The Tulsa Raceway pass... look at that beautiful 60 foot for a total pig of a car!

Track video (I have an in car too, I just didn't pull it off the camera yet)

30 min later at my spot with a dragy on wet asphalt with a much slower 60 foot, and a slower 60-130 than my best.

    The dragy run
