    2023 S5 is finally here!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Took delivery of this gorgeous beauty this past week - Daytona Gray premium plus with red leather interior. Ordered it early October of '21 as a 22 model however it showed up as a '23 model with some unexpected goodies such as upgrades to the black optics package and B&O stereo included in the premium plus. PPF scheduled for install next week and ceramic tint to follow so I haven't driven it much yet. Longer term I plan on 034 motorsports stage 1 tune. I plan on selling my '07 S6 with V10 which has been a phenomenal vehicle for me. Love the hatchback and styling of the S5 which were the main reasons for choosing it. I considered an M340i grand sport as well but went with the Audi primarily because of my experience with the C6 S6.

Congrats, very nice. I have the same but a 2022 and Prestige, Daytona and Magma Red has to be the best combo IMO. And did you mean the M440i Gran Coupe? I was considering that too but this looked much nicer IMO, the hatch/sportback styling and body proportions looked so much nicer than the BMW, and I couldn't get over those huge grilles lol. I'm definitely happy with my S5 SB though and love it.

Petrol. We don't get any diesel Audis here in the US. I think the Q7 was offered in a diesel option at one point not sure, but might've been it. I guess because of the UK market, save money in this economy, the diesel one probably sells easier, and leave petrol for RS5?

Absolutely! I had a B9 S5 Sportback and B9 S4 with magma interior...loved it! The last two RS5's I've just had to try and not think too much about it. Black is nice, especially with alcantara bits, but it's so drab.

My spec is the Premium Plus and it does have the toll module however you have to pay a monthly fee on that which i'm not surprised by.

Thanks for confirming that. I noticed that my order for a 23 prestige shows the toll module with the "delete" notation. I only us EZ Pass several times per month, but still pay a $0.75 monthly fee, plus usage. I'd have preferred if it was included but I'll learn to live with sticking my pass on top the dash when I need it, as I've done for years.

A couple of additional questions though, if you don't mind:

    * Does your trunk tool kit contain a "wheel hanger" bolt the is used to align the wheel's bolt holes and hold the wheel/tire in position when doing a tire/wheel change?

    * Are the 2 threaded brass nuts in plastic tabs for attaching a front license plate to the lower front grill removable if you don't require a front plate? I noticed them on a 2022 S5 Sportback (see following pic) at a local dealership and thought they might be something that could easily removed. But the additional plastic filler with embossed instructions is also concerning, especially if it cannot be removed. it this visible on your 2023?

damn i didnt even know you pay extra for the toll module feature lol, i was thinking of setting it up but i barely need ezpass and never bothered going through the setup hassle. i found i can put my ezpass right behind the screen in that little gap, it kind of wedges in and as long as you arent making fast/sharp turns it wont really slide around.

    - i'm not sure on the wheel hanger but i think i might have it, i just have the little bag with the jack and other tools in there i guess might be in there.

    - and yes those 2 plate bracket things do come off. i cant remember which way, you'll have to feel around behind it, but i believe they just pop out, towards the back/inside probably. once you remove them i think it's just open honeycomb there.

as for the other tab with the embossed instructions, i dont think that's removable though. those tabs im not sure if they are just clipped in, those might be plastic welded or something, and just part of that horizontal bar. dont sweat it though, i felt the same way when i first got the car, like what is this sh*t lol, but honestly you dont really notice it once you back up, and 99% of people will never notice it either, i myself forgot i had it there until i saw your picture again. but yeah don't even go thru the hassle with that one you'll forget about it soon.

btw that last closeup grille picture you used, is that your car or just a pic for example? i ask because that kind of looks like gloss black/black chrome or something there. normally thats just matte black so just curious about it, that looks good. i been thinking of doing that middle area of the grille in gloss black too, that horizontal matte black section that doesnt have the open honeycombs.

That should work for my EZPass. Now I just need to figure out a home from my Valentine that currently resides in the center of the top of the dash.

Good to know those plate fasteners are removable since Ohio finally got rid of the front plate requirement a few years back.

I'm sure I'll get used to that embossed thing, just like I eventually adjusted to the goofy safety seatbelt thing affixed to the sun visors that cannot be removed. That last picture isn't from my car which is at the factory stage. I spotted it at the dealership's lot on a '22 black S5 SB a couple of months ago. There is definitely a lot of gloss black plastic going on with these cars! I even noticed that on the eTron RS GT they had in the showroom that same day ...

^^ what if you put the valentine on the dash behind the screen too lol, so it's kind of out of visibility from the seats, not sure if the radar works from there or can even mount there or not just throwing it out there.

and yea you actually just reminded me about my visor safety label lol, i am about to remove that too, it's actually easy to remove get a heatgun and some rubbing alcohol, it should peel right off, seen some vids on youtube doing it. i'll post up mine when i do it soon.

and ah ok i see, yea that gloss black on that area of the grille must be custom done or something then i havent seen that before. and actually i notice now the honeycomb shapes are different too, the stock S5 one has matte black hexagon shapes and has the little gloss black 'tab' in the middle of each. this one looks like just simple hexagon shape and it's all gloss black, must be an aftermarket grille maybe. but yeah a lot of gloss black trim especially on the black optics package.

I'm considering doing that as well. I also thought about placing it in front of the screen as Liquid Smoke mentioned. I would be willing to forego the rear radar detection and would get the Valentine remote display, mounted in an easy-to-see location. First step of course is to actually get the car, currently at the second stop (factory) of the process.

I can say for sure the front license plate clips pop out, there are just little tabs that hold them in. Mine are out.

Just wondering what the steps were that you used to pop out the license plate clips?

You want a detector as high as possible in the car to have the range. The lower you put it, you're only hindering its performance and if you put it directly on the dash now you have the wipers and such to block it as well.

My truck tool kit did NOT come with any "wheel hanger". All that was in the bag was the jack and handle. BTW there really are not many options in the vehicle to store this bag. I tried stuffing in the spare tire location but it was too bulky to fit in there as the battery is under the spare which takes up that entire space. So stuffed it in the left storage compartment where majority of fuses and electronics are. Disappointed Audi did not design a better location for it.

Also to note when I took delivery the Salesperson gave me the manual and along with it came some funky U shaped plastic tool. I thought that tool was to hold the manual together, so I tossed it. Turns out its to remove the black plastic lug nut covers. I had to dig thru my garbage to retrieve, luckily I found it.

I'm not quite sure what that picture on the front grill is even trying to depict. I assume it has something to do with the front plate but never seen anything quite like it. Here in NJ it's required to have a front plate and since this is my daily I will be putting it on to avoid attention from LEOs. I do not use a front plate on my '06 Vette however that's not my daily and in the 17 years of owning it I've only been pulled over and ticketed once for missing front plate.

Since posted the pics above I've had PPF put on the entire front of vehicle and ceramic coated it using Adams graphene advanced. Looks awesome! Considering ceramic tint for the rears next. I do want to add some mudflaps to protect from road debris but not finding very many options.

I havent run a front plate in over 20 years at this point. Only one fixit ticket in that time. That being said, I live closer to PA where most cars coming over dont have a front plate so I just blend in. I know the more north you go in the state they have a fun time ticking people for it.

Hey OP, do you happen to know if your car was optioned with the Audi Sport Interior package new for 2023? I noticed the site shows the 2023 S5 as having piano black trim (), but your car seems to have carbon fiber trim still.

Thought I'd offer a comment about the front license plate brackets that I found on my 2023 S5 Sportback. They're the same design and physical size as can be seen in my post #19 above (photo shown directly below)

There have been several threads (e.g., https://www.audizine.com/gallery/dat.../s5sbgrill.jpg mentioned here and elsewhere that describe how to remove the plate holders. After reviewing them in greater detail, all mention removing the hood opening lever and then removing Torx T25 screws from the brackets before prying out the bracket pieces. This procedure is not viable for the type of brackets my S5 has installed as there are no T25 Torx screws on my brackets. Instead, the brackets are held together with 4 clips each, 2 horizontally oriented on the upper side of the brackets, and 2 oriented at ~45 degree angles on each end of the brackets. The clips on the outer half of the assembly have 4 "male" barbed prongs, and the inner half of the assembly have the 4 "female" equivalents.

I was unsuccessful in my attempts to separate the clips in order to remove them, as I don't currently have the plastic trim removal tools that others have suggested using. The joined clips are "robustly" connected together and defied my efforts to separate them by hand, without appropriate tools. To get a better idea of why they resisted my attempts to remove them, I used a Teslong industrial endoscope to examine exactly how the clips are constructed and joined. In the following pics, you can see that the barbed male prongs are seated tightly into the "ahem" clip receptacles.

I suspect that attempts using trim removal tools, or small screwdrivers, etc might result in breaking the clips, or marring the hexagonal grill openings, or both. Frankly, since my state doesn't require front plates, destroying the bracket clips is not a concern for me. Marring or breaking the hexagonal opening of the grill is a major concern! I've considered using an oscillating tool (e.g., Fein Multimaster) with a narrow/sharp blade to cut through the barbs, or perhaps an Exacto knife with a very sharp blade. At any rate, for those contemplating removal of their front license plate brackets of the style pictured above, now you know what you're up against!

My dealer removed them for me for free when I asked them to do so. Maybe they will for you?

Good suggestion! I suspect dealers in states that don't require front plates get that request frequently. I never thought about asking for that, and would have if I knew how difficult they set to be to remove. I might wait until the car's 1st service appointment to ask for that, or I may just take a dremel with a small cutoff wheel to them first!

This is pretty easy to do if you have trim removal tools. If your careful you shouldn’t scratch anything. You can take off the hood latch release and cover if you want to work at them from the back.
