    Potential New Owner - 2018 or 2019 - DL382

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Looking to move into an B9 and I am looking at 2018 OR 2019's. I understand the 2019 has the 0HL (2nd gen DL382). I have my eye on one of 2 2018's and am close to pulling the trigger, but want to see if I should shift my focus to a 2019 to get the gen 2 DL382.

Is the Gen 2 DL382 that much better?

    Thanks!

Suspect you have some misunderstanding there.

DL501 is the first gen longitudinal 7-speed DCT for Audi, with support to 550 Nm. This is known as the type 0B5.
Used in the B8 S4/S5/RS4/RS5 and the C7 S6/S7 in the US market, but used for all the non-manual A and Q B8 in RoW.

DL382 is the second gen, with support to 400 Nm. It comes in several types, depending on the quattro configuration. DL382 introduced with the C7.5.
    type 0CJ = DL382-7A, quattro "ultra" with VTK080 coupler
    type 0CK = DL382-7F, front wheel drive
    type 0CL = DL382-7Q, quattro with full-time self-locking Torsen center diff

DL382+ is just a higher torque handling update, with support to 500 Nm
    type 0HL = DL382+-7A, quattro "ultra" with VTK120 coupler

The type 0HL is not used in B9. It extends quattro ultra to handle the 3.0T in the C8 A6/A7.

If that is the case it appears I have indeed misunderstood! Thank you for clarifying, I will continue pursuing the 2018 since it shares the same gearbox as the 2019 model :)

This thread makes it seem that DL382 gen 2 is indeed in the B9 vehicles?

No idea what they are referencing, unless they are meaning the switch of the A4 quattro from the 0CL with real quattro to the 0CJ with "ultra" quattro. The B9 A4 quattro and A5 quattro initially released with the 0CL. The A4 allroad and the Q5 initially released with the 0CJ. Eventually, the A4 and A5 were converted from quattro legit to quattro ultra. Not sure when specifically that happened. Around MY19 sounds about right.

The DL501 did have a revision so it's common to see reference to a gen1 and a gen2, and I think even two sub gens for gen2. But not seen anything about any such significant redesigns of the DL382, other than the DL382+ which isn't relevant to the B segment.

That may be the case then. Thanks for the feedback.

The 2019s have "0HK" transmission code. I am not sure where "0HL" came from within the community.

I verified this with my 2019 and Unitronic mentions the same notation that their TCU tune is not available for the "0HK" transmissions (i.e. all MY2019 B9 A4/A5).

There is no transmission code 0HK at all, and there's no actual type 0HK that exists. There is the 0HK parts bin. A type 0HK, by logical extension, would have been a DL382+-7F.

What Daavid is referring to the parts bin of the mechatronic unit. Which can be seen in a scan.

The rev BA software load is for type 0CL code TBR, used for MY18. And the rev CG software load is for the type 0CL code TCC, used for MY19. So they are both a DL382-7Q. The change in the underlying hardware component would be of significance to a tuner trying to rewrite control software. But it's of little interest to an owner. Unless something has been documented as improved in the DL382 experience with the updated mech that isn't due to software, which can simply be updated.

Sorry to dig this up but I have been researching the DL382+ for a while now because the MY19 B9's still have not gotten anything in the way of a trans tune. I did find a specific list of changes between the DL382 0CL and DL382+ 0HL. Audi specifies that there is one extra clutch plate per clutch assembly (so 2 added plates) and it uses a 'cross bar design". Piston surface area is increased 10%. The dual mass flywheel is upgraded to handle increased torque, and there are modifications to the intake for the ATF pump, increased fluid flow from the pump, and and oversized oil cooler as well as software modifications.

Overall the design appears to be virtually identical in almost every other way, I was wondering if it was possible to just use the 0HL clutch assembly with the additional clutch plates as a factory replacement.
