The OEM Exhaust System is very small and has many kinks and pinched areas of pipe reducing the total inner diameter of the exhaust system. phone sound clips don't do it justice. It sounds so good in person. Very calm and respectable while normal driving and all the lovely noises while driving spirited

I'm interested to see how the noise is in the avant due to the hatch being right over the exhaust.

For my b7 a4 avant, which had a full exhaust, I had to line the trunk and wheel well with sound foam cause it droned too much at 100kmph.

So I'm wanting to see if it's something I'd have to do for the A6 avant as well.

Once your cruising it almost as quiet as stock. Worse case you can go with the baffled downpipes. Can't say for sure on an avant yet though

I’m in the same boat. Not sure if baffled down pipes with the new muffler system will be enough to kill the drone on the Avant. It’s obviously an expensive item to experiment with (you guys make great products, worth every penny IMHO). This is where those video sound clips on an Avant should really sell themselves if you can get performance without then annoying drone for a DD vehicle. I know it’s a pain to install various combos and create the clips but it should directly translate into sales for you since the customer has a much better idea of what they are getting.

Don't get me wrong it's not too bad adding that dyno Matt soundproofing thingy, but it's effects are not that drastic.

So if the sound is already either too loud or dronny it won't do much, since the mat mostly served as a dampener.

From the A6 sedan vid it doesn't sound too loud from the outside, will be interested to see in the avant hatch since it acts as a resonance chamber.

Yes, I have the full setup from JHM but for a few reasons I won’t be able to drive it until the end of the month. Happy to report that my brother has driven it and said, “you have created a rocket. your car feels like it flies.”

I'd be interested in how it sounds at 50kmph, 80kmph, 100kmph and 120kmph+.
Maybe hold it at those speeds for a few seconds and accelerate afterwards.

My issue with my a4 avant was that at highway cruising speeds it wasn't that pleasant, which made roadtrips uncomfortable.

Alright, I can say that overall I am very happy with the setup. The avant probably adds some overall echo chamber effect that makes low RPM cruising a little louder than what most folks would want. Going up a hill at 1750 RPM is very loud. But as you can hear from the first video, I’d say the average sound level is perfectly acceptable.
The good news is that I love how it sounds under acceleration. This car is properly quick now and I would recommend the setup to anyone who is on the fence. I’m still smiling from the last pull!

Thanks for the Clips, in the first one i recognize the avant echo/drone/reverberation all too well... I cleaned up the reverberation and weird drone by lining my entire trunk with sound insulating material. Turned the sound into just a bit deeper and louder after that.

Has anybody bought the downpipes with the high flow cats and baffle system?

It seems like the most OEM+ option would be to go with the high flow cats + baffle system and then the cat-back.

What happens if you just install the highflow cats + baffle but leave the rest stock? would that hinder stage 1 ectu +tcu gains ?

Jake, I was gonna ask you in your other thread on ECU/TCU tunes but thought it's more appropriate here. What is a reasonable labor shop hours for the downpipe install? Not sure how hard it is to access on the C6 A6 but I know the B8 S4 was a bit of a pain since it's a tighter space. I just want to make sure I get reasonable quotes from the shops locally. Also, how about the exhaust labor hour install when I get it later on?

Anyone else have these work done? Just curious if it's a pain to remove the old cats like the B8's.

If I remember correctly, all of the bolts broke when the shop was removing the old downpipes on mine. I think the labor total was close to the price of the parts (as usually seems to be the case).

Woah, you paid over $1,500 for the removal/install of the downpipes?

I just want to add that without having a lift and putting the car on ramps it took Mr about 2 hours to install after removing the orginal catalytic converts. I of course forgot to get gaskets and had to cut the lower clamps because the salt made the bolts round. It will take a few hours to get the stock catalytic converters out, gotta find the right extensions and swivel heads, but installation was a breeze. Will definitely recommend JHM, great product

I’ll have to go back and look but they spent a good bit of time removing the bolts after each one snapped off at the first attempt.

Edit: I also didn’t buy $1500 downpipes.

Snapped studs can some times take a few hours to extract and replace which can add up very quickly depending on shop labor rate

Also, for some reason I jsut assumed that these catted DP's will not trigger a check engine light to go on but I was reading the B8 S4 ones and most are using spacers for the O2 sensors. Do you still sell the vibrant j spacers? I don't see it in your website anymore.

My local shop welded new flex pipes in my down pipes and had to remove them for that. Total labor was ~$400 per side and that was including the welding.

That's my car in the pictures and video. I'm lucky enough to be local to JHM and had them do the install along with a set of catted downpipes. If anybody else is wavering, don't. Place your order. As the first person to have this exhaust system installed on their vehicle I can say it is an absolute must buy for these cars, especially when tuned. Sound quality is superb inside and outside the cabin plus the increased flow characteristics mean I get the most out of my pulley and tune. Many thanks to JHM for bringing this product to market.
