    I hear good things...

That being said, I've been UM since 2016 and I think it feels great compared to stock.

I wanted UM because it's closer to me but their in person appointments were 3 months out. And remote tune buyers said that UM's support was really poor.

I've got a Jackal Tune in my 120k mile cabriolet and I feel there is more power but I am very disappointed in the power delivery in 1st gear. I cannot seem to get aggressive with the throttle at takeoff and manage a smooth delivery without the car starting to buck really hard so you have to clutch and upshift and slowly reapply the power. I cannot seem to master this effectively as I don't drive the car enough to learn the consistency but am considering asking my shop to remove the tune. I will in fairness reach out to Jackal through my mechanic first. I'm wiling to take some of the blame for the behavior but i seriously do not recall having this bad of driving from my foot before the Jackal Tune.

I’ve had 2 rs4’s. First one had apr, then jhm tune. My current rs4 has the jackal tune on it for about a year, no issues. Still have factory cats….milltek cat back. Going with zinram dp next. I like the jackal tune….also like the knock sensors are still managing detonation unlike other tunes, as I’m told.

The sensitivity could be adjusted within the tune as with the burble. Also, the S button seems to still have some crispness in the throttle even with the tune……. Install it and away you go!

I had a similar issue but thought it was due to my flap delete. Matt from Jackal thought I should do throttle body calibrations and it didn't help. He said he was willing to work with me on a resolution but I never got around to it. It only happened to me occasionally. I sold that car, but thinking of going Jackal on my new one as well. Be curious his thoughts on this.

Nash_TDI remember henry posted about having problems bogging down off the line with his jackal tune, but I think they addressed it. At least I sure hope they did, because I bought their tune and was going to install it asap. Although I didn't get 2step/LC, did you have that?

Reach out via email, your tune may be some what older. We have made quite a few throttle adjustments and tune updates over the past year. We can also customize anything you would like in regards to drivability

Don’t ever hesitate to reach out!

Haha yea that sounds familiar. Although I didn't get that, I only do launches on snow and for that you can pretty much send it at a really high RPM because you're not going anywhere anyways xD

Looking into getting a tune for my rs4. Just recently started researching those that are available. I was about to try the apr tune. I would like to read more about this tune first. Can you guide me in the right direction? Thank you.

If you go for the Jackal Tune they are doing 50$ off Tunes for the Holiday Season. About to pick one up for my B7 S4.
My mechanic had a B7 RS4 on JHM, said he really liked the Jackal on paper from what he has heard from others.

Thanks for the input. Trying to find as much info as I can. I had a United Motorsports tune on my s3 before I bought the rs4. Really liked it. There’s so many to choose from. Makes it tough.

APR tune does virtually nothing based on all the input I've read and heard. UM was the most solid choice prior to Jackal. I've driven Jackal, APR, JHM, and I believe it was Unitronic tuned RS4's. the Jackal tuned made the biggest noticeable difference. You could tell it was a significant improvement. They can also adjust the tune if you ask them to. Great guys to work with.

I have gone Jackal. I don't have numbers but it is enough that the butt dyno can confidently say it is indeed faster. Also, Jackal has been excellent to work with, prompt in replying to emails and delivery of the tune. I will be engaging with them to perhaps make some tweaks to the tune after I have driven the car more. The throttle response is a little touchy relative to the stock tune, but not so much that I think I won't be able to adjust.

However, be advised IMHO the tune does change the nature of the engine in how it delivers power. From the factory, and as I understand it based on literature and driving experience (not a mechanic), the B7 RS4 engine is a race engine for the street, designed to rev high and deliver power at the top of the rev range. There is a lot of drama in that engine nature but it requires you rev the engine out to get into that power (as you all i'm sure are aware), which can make daily driving, mainly starting from a stop, a little annoying as it is difficult to modulate power initially. The Jackal tune seems to change that nature somewhat, by giving more torque low and mid range in the rev band. The engine still pulls hard all the way to the increased redline of 8500, but it now feels more linear and somewhat smoother. Someone earlier noted they thought their car with the Jackal tune felt like their old C5 corvette, or in other words an LS V8.

I'm not saying whether this is good or bad. I wanted the car to be faster and it is. But I do think I would like to have the option of switching between the Jackal tune and the stock tune on the fly, as APR and I think VAST once provided via the cruise control stock for my B5 S4.

Well done to Jackal for delivering a great product at a very fair price, and providing excellent customer service.

USAFS4, I’m also not crazy about the throttle mapping being so aggressive on the first 10-20% of pedal travel. I don’t think the low rpm torque you feel is that much higher than stock, rather you are being fooled by the overly aggressive throttle map. It’s an annoying trick that most tuners employ. Personally I like linear throttle position to torque output (as opposed to correlated to throttle body position directly like cable throttle cars). What I’d like from a tune for throttle behavior is removal of some of the smoothing filter between the pedal input and the response.

Is it throttle mapping or a "drastic"/dynamic change in the fuel/ignition or a combination with an adjustment to the cam phasing, would like to see the tables/data?

Rilla, It may be true there is little to no difference in torque, and it is just an aggressive throttle mapping. I was breaking my PS4/275 tires (with plenty of tread life left) loose upon initial throttle input, with what was normal throttle input for me prior to the tune, when in 1st and 2nd in wet conditions. I was not inducing 4 wheel spin for long, just the tires would slip slightly before quattro kicked in. I don't think i could have induced such behavior even with an aggressive launch with the stock tune.

Just curious, if a customer doesn't specify, will it be the more aggressive throttle or stock throttle? Kinda curious which one I have because I didn't specify.

    Jackal Tune!!!

I can vouch that jackal Motorsport is very receptive and will work with you to dial in the throttle behavior. But it might save them time if they had a graph like the one from the owner manual to pick from. Then we could all discuss which version we like best too.

I agree. I think there are two categories of customers, ones who go to the drag strip and those who go to track days. The first iteration of the tune i got seems targeted more for going to the dragstrip. I just think there should be one for the track, that delivers the overall power but allows for more modulation in lower rpm range. That might mean the track tune would be slower of the tunes in the 1/4 mile, but then i never understood why folks want to take an rs4 to the dragstrip. Forced induction is always faster and cheaper to increase hp/tq/$. I mean, you can buy a stg3 b5 or stg2 B8 for the cost to put a supercharger on an RS4.

Jackal has once again delivered! My tune is now mostly where I want it. We are still working on the S button behavior which is different for deflapped cars. Its great to have a tuner that can give you some customization. The initial tune I got I felt was too aggressive for track driving, perhaps it was great for the drag strip. The last iteration I have now allows me to better modulate power in the lower rpm range, which is great for low speed corners, but I still have more power over all, and it still pulls hard up top.

Who else would like to see the tune open exhaust flaps always in Sport mode? Of course as standard the valves shut from above idle rpm to 3000 rpm in gears 1-3.

Paid extra for my aftermarket system to have valves to suit my mood. I used to have the golf tees with stock mufflers because they were so quiet.

I talked to a powder coating place and they said they could do black cerakote with a 1 year warranty for 300 bucks. Vs the 40 bucks for a few cans of rust oleum. Having trouble deciding lol

Any updates on people’s thoughts on this tune? I’m due for a carbon clean, and I think I’ll deflap and get the tune at the same time (currently stock). Any issues with throttle response or have those been addressed? Any concerns passing inspection (I’m in New York). Thanks!

I put about a 100 miles on the car now with the Jackal tune/deflap and it's great. I really enjoy the smoothed out power delivery and overall drivability, definitely worth it in my opinion.

    Throttle response has been addressed.
No issues passing inspection in NY unless you opt for SAI delete which is not an official option yet.
Definitely opt for the exhaust flaps open always in sport!
