    B9 S5 Tune

Has anyone installed the new APR tune that I read was an improvement on the original tune that seemed not well liked as compared to the 034 tune?I’m planning to go to stage 1 (only) but am not sure either ads very much. Any one can advise it’s appreciated.
I know APR is only available in stage 1. Any comments on which way I should go, & if APR stage 1 pairs with the 034 TCU tune or is it not compatible?
I had a stage 2 APR tune with an AWE touring exhaust & APR intake on my B8.5 S5 coupe (manual) & loved it. Traded for a ‘19 A5 Sportback. Not fast except in sport mode. Used to more power. Drive my 911 S 991.2 weekends.
    Thanks!

    1. Yes a Stg1 tune definitely adds to this car. I have no personal experience with APR or 034 (am EPL tuned), but would probably lean towards 034 given their activity for this platform. While APR did revise their tune, it took quite a while and I would ask - why they didn't get it "right" the first time? Obviously, it was a response to the newer players which were 034 and IE and an effort to save some level of relevance on the platform. Should there need to be any further tweaks or revisions, I'd put my money in 034's hands to get those things done in a timely manner. Seems like APR has more focus on other platforms.
    2. It is not advisable to mix ECU / TCU from different tuners. While it very well may work fine, you're only asking for finger pointing should you have an issue or error code to sort out.

Do Stage 1 and just when you think it's all you're going to need.....you'll find yourself intake and FMIC shopping.

    Congrats on the new S5!

Our Stage 1 ECU tuning will be a solid upgrade on your S5, and you may consider swapping it out for your weekend car a few times per month, especially if you have access to E85!

Not only is performance improved, but so is drivability. I went ahead and shot you a PM if you have any questions!

Sean, Thanks. I’m looking for a 93 octane tune. I’ve read where folks are saying that the 93 tune is not adding a lot. I need to be assured of a seat of the pants improvement in acceleration if I’m going to kill my CPO warranty. If it’s nothing dramatic in power, it’s not worth doing until the warranty is up. Yes, I’d do the TCU tune as well as stage 1.

I'd say it's quite a decent increase in performance, especially when looking at the performance metrics. Someone has even run 11.33 on our Stage 2 93 octane file with some bolt-ons.

Sean. Sorry but I asked about Stage 1 not stage 2. It’s like you’re circumventing my question with unrelated numbers. Can you address stage 1 with a TCU tune as well. Much appreciated!

I apologize - was simply using 93 octane as an example as there is a common misconception that these cars need E85 to have appreciable gains when tuned.

Considering there's a near 200ftlbs peak torque gain, these gains will certainly be noticeable, and I'm sure you'll love it - or your money back within 30 days.

Thanks Sean! Does that 200 lb.ft apply to 93? Is a larger intercooler necessary or advisable? I plan to do the new APR intake at the same time. Will that work in conjunction with your tune? It seems to add some added power.
Also do u recommend the Stage 1 or 2 TCU tube with it? What’s the difference?

The ~200ftlbs is on 93 octane.

A larger intercooler is certainly recommended, but not required - regardless of tuning software. These cars on pump gas are a lot more susceptible to heat soak due to the rather small factory intercooler. There is no issue installing the APR intake and running it on our tune as well.

I would highly recommend our Stage 2 TCU tune. Stage 1 TCU essentially the factory TCU tune, with torque limits raised in allowance of properly communicating with the ECU.

Stage 2 TCU will have improved shift points, quicker shifts, and overall will transform the car.

I have the Stage 2 TCU tune on my RS5 and there's a very noticeable difference between it and the Stage 1 TCU tune. I'd highly recommend it.
