Has anyone tried Dynamic Friction Rotors?

As I continue to go down the rabbit hole idea of replacing the A7 with an S7 I have been pricing regular maintenance items.

Well the price of 400mm Zimmerman rotors is quite shocking at $350 each at the moment. In my search for alternative rotors I came across the DFRs at about 1/2 the price. BUT before I expound on their price I was curious if anyone has tried them and what their thoughts are on them.

No experience with these but IMO, brakes are the last thing you should cheap out on (along with tires).

While that completely defies logic in a world of strong competition, I would imagine that a company that charged a premium for inferior products would not last long.. certainly not the case with Zimmerman

The dollar is very strong against the euro at the moment, so stuff from Germany is cheaper here and probably will continue this way for the rest of this year. Several sites have these "on sale" at the moment; the best price I'm quickly seeing is about $275 each at FCP Euro with the lifetime warranty. Never heard of DFR as a brake rotor manufacturer for Audi.

FCP Euro prices are up some, but they also sell rotor/pad combos and have a lifetime warranty if you plan to keep the car for a while. Free shipping with FCP Euro may narrow the cost difference with alibaba product.

I just looked at 034's S5 & RS5 rotos, not counting the Girodisc, and they don't look at all like 034's to me. Completely different cooling cuts.

i noticed that too, plus everything ive got from 034 has been high quality parts and machined well, i would happily pay more for 034 and trust them over ordering straight from china

the brake element rings have any cuts you want....its just what the machine shop makes up.

if you think that there is a special production facility for 034 or Giro, or ECS, or etc that is not China....I have a bridge to sell you.

Where do you think 034 orders these from? lol, all their stuff comes from China now, there's no in-house CNC.

THCarpenter, keep your bridge. As far as Girodisc is concerned, we did a Porsche club tour up there (about 100mi from my house) a few years ago and they make everything in house except the nuts/bolts. Pretty impressive modern facility setup with 3 axis CNC milling machines. They even have a metalurgical testing station to test the quality of there Steel & Aluminum stock. Girodisc may be the exception but they do have a reputation in the racing world pretty much like no other company here in N. America.

There's another company that CNC's their own hats: JHM with their made in America rotors. Theirs are actually lighter weight too.

However, you don't CNC the discs. Those have to come from somewhere. If those are made in America, probably same place JHM gets them. Secret sauce but it's in USA, same place that produces rotors for NASCAR.

I was hunting around and found a good price on Brembo rears. https://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/...G72-V4627.aspx. and Fremax fronts https://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/...917-V4627.aspx I am looking now since I might have to replace brakes next summer. The prices of everything seem to go up so I will will buy now before inflation gets any worse. Does anyone have experience with the Fremax brand?

Fremax is a Brazilian company. Don't see much out there as far as reviews, must be fairly new to the N. American market. Looks like they sell a lot in Latin America.
