So. I have a 2019 S4. Thanks to this batshit market place I have considerable equity , also my warranty expires next year . I'm warming up to the idea it may be time to trade up to a 21. This is my 4th S4 . And every time I get another one they seem more polished than the last. Has Audi done anything with the interior plastic rattling? Do you guys miss the MMI knob ? WTF is Headlight " animation " has anyone found one with dynamic steering If so.. is it worth it ?. And lastly. " Sport resonator " .. how much better does this sound ? I

Coming from a 2017 M3 to a 21 S4 Prestige with S-Sport and dynamic steering, I missed my idrive knob at first. I’ve completely adapted to the touchscreen now. The trick is to anchor your fingers on the top of the screen and use your thumb to make selections. At least while driving. Headlight animation refers to the sequential turn signals for both the headlights and tail lights. When you lock/unlock the car it does a cool “animation” similar to the sequential turn signals. I haven’t had any rattles yet, I’m at about 21,6xx miles. The dynamic steering is interesting. I don’t have experience driving the normal steering rack, but, when you put the steering in “auto” I find it does a fairly good job at giving feedback during “dynamic” cornering. That is all relative of course in this era of electric steering. I installed 034 springs, solid aluminum front sway bar end links, an upgraded upper strut brace, and spacers. I have noticed more feedback in the steering with those. I love my car! I’d recommend it. IMG_1942.jpg

    I have both a '18 and '21 s4. it's a lateral move imho.

I like some aesthetic design aspects of the '21 better than the '18, but like more aesthetic design aspects of the '18 better.

The larger MMI screen on the '21 looks more modern, but for me at least, it's difficult to use the touch screen to do things like changing your music while driving, it's like hitting a small moving target, I find I need to grab the side of the screen to make it more easy.

Also opening your garage door isn't just blindly pressing a button above you, you need to swipe down, then tap a virtual button, an extra step.

Audi has cut corners in a few places, the engine cover is just plain black, the rear floor mats don't have the anchor points. Minor stuff though.

My MMI screen rattles in my ‘21. Audi told me because I have a downpipe it’s causing more noise and causing the screen to rattle but I don’t buy that at all. Pushing on the screen helps.
The screen isn’t ideal but I also don’t use it a lot outside of CarPlay and CarPlay is much better with a touch screen. I also turned of the NHTSA rules in OBD11 so I can type when I’m moving. I mean so my passenger can type when I’m moving.
Garage door thing is stupid, I never used the buttons in my old car but I do find having to do several motions to open the garage stupid. The GPS location feature does work for the most part so it’s not horrible.
If I had to pick between the two I’d get the facelift but if I already had the pre face lift I definitely wouldn’t upgrade. The screen is a love it or hate it change. I love some aspects, hate others. So that is a wash.
The only feature I can’t live without now is the matrix headlights which don’t come on the pre facelift, but, you need the prestige package and then you need to pay someone to turn it on. So factory also a wash.
You also lose the * button in the 21 on the wheel which I always used for drive select and I do miss that. I never use the heated wheel and the drive select button is impossible to use if you use your cup holders.
Lastly, as much as I like the design language of my car, I do think the B9 looks better still. Sharper angles, less bubbly. I have the Carbon side mirrors and spoiler from the factory and it helps a lot. I saw a facelift S4 without that stuff and I hated it. Looked like an A4.

If you set the GPS location of your garage doors the menu will automatically come down when you turn on the car in your garage and also when you come home.

I need to try and redo that, it always pops up too early, then when I'm close enough, it disappears. haha.

You can install the bigger screen in the B9 S4. Tbh, I know it's not a major upgrade, but I don't like buying any first year model. I think the B9 S4 hashed out alot of their issues (minus the waterpump) and I think it looks way better than the b9.5.

I park in my garage but I set my GPS while in the driveway. When I come home the menu drops down right as I pass my neighbor's houses.

I have zero interest in a B9.5. They can take that touch screen and the Knight Rider ridiculous cluster and shove it where the sun doesn’t shine. Also the piano key material is just ridiculous.

Near as I can tell, the only upgrades are the perforated leather steering wheel and shift lever. Otherwise, disco dancing lights on the outside, and slightly revised grill are useless to me. No car payment offsets and out of warranty work as well to a degree.

I hate to say it but next car for me will be either electric, or further back in time for an older 911. The world has lost it’s mind.

That nails basically every concern. Can you tell me more about having to pay someone to turn on animation? I would only buy a Prestige. To your point about the carbon Fibre pack. You're so right. These cars ESPECIALLY the B9.5 are ugly in the base model with no candy. I have black ops on my mythos black Prestige with Magna red leather and aside from some rattles in the package tray - I'm in love with this thing. Until I realize, the warranty is up in January. I only have 28000 on the clock. Have had zero issue. I am concerned that the waterpump , or thermostat will get me at the worse time. ( mountain town with no service) scenario. When did the cooling issues get solved? Or did they ever ? Thanks again for your excellent feedback. I'd keep this and extend the warranty. But. I don't think it's worth it. Has anyone here had a first hand experience with Audi Pure Protection? I had to pay for a DSG repair on my B8.5 , I still have nightmares about that credit card statement.

Some of the elements you brilliantly brought up are what has me on the fence. Piano black everywhere you touch something, why.. who thinks of this shit.? Speaking of touch. Touch screen replaces the perfect MMI knob. This interior will have more finger prints than the FBI. I don't have the budget for anything German out of warranty. But . My heart is with a 911 . Not my wallet. In closing I feel like Audi is definitely following trends with the B 9.5 not setting them like in previous vintages. I'm a fleet mechanic on rental cars. Here's the shit car formula, everything touch screen , EVERYTHING Piano black, EVERYTHING ugly as balls unless you pay for the halo trim. And . Hey. Whadda know. Exactly the hairs I'm splitting here. Someone different must be pulling the levers at audis design team. It's slowly becoming just another Sedan. That was never the case historically with the S4. It was always the coolest kid in its class. Wtf are they doing.? It's really the death of a thousand cuts . The B10 .. it'll be electric. No soul. And 80k I think this is the end folks.

Nailed it. Thus why I’m sticking with my antiquated scroll wheel and terrible internal combustion engine for as long as I can…

I keep shopping for 911s as one of the kids is just about big enough to ride in the front seat, but Porsche’s by and large (at least any I want) have become unobtanium and the feature set in the S4 is extremely difficult to beat. The performance is also on par with any 911 I can afford. And with my experience with German cars being if you maintain them properly, they last a LONG time and since I’ve mine since new, I expect I’ll have it for a good long while.

The only thing that is motivating me to trade is potential repairs and my trade equity . Maintenance alone won't save you anymore. Thanks " technology " . The crash mitigation shit costs thousands when it fails. There is absolutely zero you can do to keep it alive. I vend cars to dealerships weekly over failed radar and sonar units. Now. I haven't seen many fail in the audi VW world. But . I'm sure it's happening. The piano black , lack of MMI . Makes my OCD itch , but I'd deal with it to keep this a fixed cost. The technology basically totals any car as it ages. So , anyone in this situation has to take chances on failure, get a warranty, or . Buy the next electric, piano black EVERYWHERE ,vegan leather , gluten free vape pen S4 b10 , it's gonna sound like a sowing machine. , and you know it. The B9 might look like a street rod compared to what they probably have planned. Fucking thing will have a " safe space ", before it gets one of those engine things. Soulless plug in " sports cars " are the future.

The animation works but if you want the matrix headlights, which will dip your high beams around car instead of just turning them off, you need to reach out to some of the dealers on the forums who can turn them on with the files they acquired from outside of the US where they’re coming from the factory with them enabled. My guy was in Canada, he demoted in to my laptop and had software that passed my VAS 5054a cable to his machine, and pushed the files to my headlights. So now instead of high beams, I have the matrix lights. For me it’s night and day.

Thanks . I have a vag com and an OBD eleven . I'll look for the mod or long code. If I ever track one down.. worse time in history to buy anything. You're the only person who mentioned it. I appreciate the tip.

Personally, the exterior styling changes on the B9.5 make the car look more like an A4.

The headlights, taillights, and black optics wheels are a welcome change. But the rounded doors and less aggressive front end kill it for me. If you look at a new A4 w/ S-line package and black optics, it's nearly indistinguishable from an S4.

The touchscreen also isn't ideal for me. The design looks like they taped an Android tablet to the dash after the fact. The B9s at least had a nice aluminum bezel. Also, no fingerprints or missing buttons when you hit a bump as you try to select something. They also replaced the wheel with just a storage "hole."

I do love the new virtual cockpit design, wireless CarPlay, and MMI though.

For me, it's not worth the upgrade.

I couldn't agree more on the softening of the body design. And yes, the HOLE , more proof Audi has zero interest in improving the car. They could have done something more with the MMI missing. How about move the cup holde or idk move the shifter. Anything expcet a delete panel. But. The new black optic wheels are sick. And the black optics plus package with black exhaust finishers. Now we're talking . None of which enhance the car or its usability. This shit just sells the car in traffic. All image. ONLY if someone can find a Prestige with black ops , carbon Fibre, will the car be distinguishable from the A4. No idea what the production numbers are for Prestige models. But It has to be less than 20% of the S4 line. They just aren't out there. Throw a rock and you'll hit a Daytone Grey Premium Plus though. What is that?²

Lol I went in to buy a PP Daytona Grey one and they pull this shit off the truck and go, it’s probably out of your price range. Every single option plus the dealer installed stuff.

I let my ego win that day. It was worth it.

My front turn signals only blink. They don't do the sequential pattern like the rears do. It's this something that has to be enabled by vagcom?

Is that a Prestige ? That is kick ass ! Tell us more about the options ! Magna Red ?? I'm looking for a 21 Glacier white with all the candy. Haven't found one. Nice choice . And I'm not disrespecting Daytone Grey. I love the color until every 3rd S4 I see is Daytone Grey. I would like more insight on why these care are so heavily Premium Plus packaged. I have a 19 Prestige Mythos black with black optics and Magna red leather. That was hard to find.. very. But nothing has been more difficult to locate than Glacier white , Magna red with every option. I'm too cheap to order a 23. But . The idea is more appealing by the day.

The only thing it doesn’t have is red seats but I could concede on that. I got it right before the chip shortage started, so very lucky.

That is everything I would get.! That's the perfect car. And red seats aren't for everybody. I like them to break up the cars interior. The sea of black especially in a black car is too much for me. But it completely works on a white car. Very nice ! That's a unicorn !

This has been mostly said, but I’ll add some votes. We have a ‘21 SQ5 prestige and an ‘18 S4 P+.

    B9 wins:
    MMI wheel/buttons (as driver)
    Homelink buttons
    Virtual cockpit display layout
    Steering wheel shape/design
    Not piano black trim

    B9.5 wins:
    Wireless CarPlay
    Display size/resolution
    Touch screen MMI (while stationary)
    Charging pad

I prefer the B9. If it was possible to retrofit a B9.5 display with touch while retaining the physical controls (and homelink) and adding factory wireless CarPlay functionality, it would be an absolute no-brainer.

The charging pad destroyed my battery from the heat, I was excited about it but turned it off.

Funny you mention SQ5. My brother just bought a new 22 last week. The dealership showed them zero about the car. So I was giving them the tour. Once I got to the missing MMI , I couldn't find my ass with two hands. I felt like I was sitting in a different brand all of a sudden. It's mostly why I posted this thread. I was sitting in an Audi. With an any other car interface . Not sure it's for me. Old guys hate changes . But the thing I can't handle at all , piano fuck black. Does anyone have this grey trim in a B9.5. ? What asshole head thought Piano black is ideal for the highest traffic area. These "trends " who sets them ..?20220901_222344.jpg

Yeah my piano black got destroyed.I’ve since polished it and ppfd the trim and it’s held up just fine.

Should’ve gone with the matte PPF to change things up on the piano black

But I do love my B9.5

I think xpel sells pre cut sets of their stealth film for the black trim inside. Annoying but a quick fix

That’s basically my car a couple years newer.

What was the issue with the charging pad? My phone has gone on mine for the last 3 years.

Wireless charging makes your phone hot and using it while it’s wireless charging makes it even hotter. My iPhone battery health is at 81% due to the heat. It depletes it’s charge rapidly now and I have to charge multiple times per day.

It’s also a generic charger and no cooling fans. A good charger has a cooling mechanism to keep the battery cool.

Good point on the wireless charging pad. I pretty much always use Waze while driving and have a ProClip setup in my S4. I don’t usually charge my phone while driving my wife’s SQ5 unless we’re on a longer trip and - holy hell - it does get hot on the pad. Probably a more effective heater than the heated cup holder lol

Quantum grey has so much personality. It's a different awesome shade of grey with every lighting environment. I feel like it would glow under city street lights. I kinda want one . I found a 21 Prestige in that color. But. It's missing a few options. Grr. Nice car. ! I might just stick with the B9 with the soon to expire warranty.

Interesting. As far as I know there’s no vagcom required for that. Mine has always done it. I didn’t buy it new however.

That’s the difference between progressive and technik.

Progressive doesn’t have the animations when locking and unlocking the vehicle. Front signal only
    Blinks while the rears sweep.

Technik gets the animations front and rear. It’s the dynamic headlights

Even though there's plenty to love about my 19., some of which I'll miss immensely. I just had to buy this when I found out it's landing in November. I really wanted to try dynamic steering. But this is the only Prestige they're getting for now. If I order one 4-6 months. And by then the interest rated could be even more obnoxious. Also thought about adding the carbon fiber package. But for $1500 only gets you a trunk spoiler and mirror caps. No side sills or bumper diffuser. Audi making complete sense there too. Why just sprinkle carbon fiber bits here and there? No thanks. They just got in a district green SQ5 that day with black ops plus. So I'll include that photo for perspective. I can't wait to see an S4 In a color that's never been offered before . I drive by myself in traffic 3 times a day. Black S4 , Black S4 .. oh look . Another

For you guys with Dynamic steering . Is the juice worth the squeeze? Or is it something you only notice at limit ? I drive like my income depends on it. Because it does.20220924_103448.jpg20220924_105531.jpg

The OEM carbon is extremely nice, and you'll find it hard to replicate it with the matching aftermarket set.... that lasts
Dynamic steering... It's nice, but I think I could live without it if I had to. I've heard people complain of poor road response in the steering wheel associated with electronic steering, yet I feel like mine has a good amount of feedback, which could have something to do with the dynamic package.

I wanted to buy the carbon fiber package
. But I just see missing panels all over. The OEM quality can't be beat . Which is why I find it funny you bring it up. The aftermarket " solutions " aren't very impressive. I feel audi should have given us front lip , rear diffuser & side sills. In that carbon fiber package. . If that was the case. I would have paid. The dynamic steering is so rare. Mostly why I wanted it. However considering the current " shortage " marketplace and RANSOM pricing . I'll deal with what I have. And be perfectly happy.

    One more thing
Can anyone give me a good explanation of what exactly the benefits are of matrix led Headlights ? Audi doesn't seem to release much info on these unless it's in an e-tron. I'm curious what to expect. The animation aspect. . What is " matrix " ? Even the dealership told me... " meh , it's personal preference "

In the United States, unless you get them hacked (available here on the forums), it's absolutely worthless. Everywhere else, it's this:
