    Question Parking sensor re-calibration

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Had a minor accident on the highway with a fox 2 years ago. Resulted in complete removal and replacement of my front grill. (just grill, not the whole front bumper)

Now I heard that you have to re-calibrate the sensors if you have disconnected them at any point.

IDK if the service centre had disconnected the two ones that are sitting on the grill or not during the replacement. (as both of them were also dangling on their wires due to the grill damage).

Is there such thing as park sensor recalibration?

If yes, can you do it via OBDEleven? :)

FWIW - I just recently disconnected and popped out both front parking sensors when I installed an intercooler (while the bumper was off, I took the whole front grill apart to remove all the extraneous plastic.) Anyway, after putting it all back together, the sensors worked just fine, and performed exactly as they had been prior to having been disassembled.

I rebuilt my crashed TT. The parking sensor wires on one of them was cut. I soldered the wires and everything is working fine. You don't need to recalibrate the sensors as long as you put them back in the right place.

Also had my bumper off recently to install some carbon accessories. Sensors were disconnect, and now work fine with zero issue.

Aha so maybe the people that were talking about recalibrating their park assist meant their rear park cameras (which I dont have). Thanks boys! :)

While I have you all here friends, do you find that the park sensors on this model in particular is a bit "paranoid/overly dramatic"?

I mean it starts full volume non stop beepeing and when I get out I have solid 30cm more until I hit the wall.

I remember my old Range Rover Evoque and my Honda Civic 2011 giving me full tone when I am much closer to the wall than this.

If I listened to my Audi TT's park sensors I would never be able to park around Europe. :D 30cm is a lot of free space no ?

Yup. This is my first car with parking sensors and 30cm extra is what I observed. Just came back from Europe and know exactly what you mean.

Its so panicky and overly cautious. Which is strange since our A1 and my cousins A4 are not like that. I regret not having a camera. In Europe (especially old cities & centres) every inch counts.
