Hey guys I have a 2001 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro. Recently and ket ne add not using stock cluster, lcd was burnt and for same price as fixing it I was able to get a s4 cluster with working lcd, so I went that route. Anyways I started getting the 3 beep and oil can flashing on the screen. I just had oil pump, pickup, sensor done along with some other stuff live dv and dp. After getting the car back it was good the first night but after the 2nd drive to work after 10 maybe 15mins I got the old 3 beep and oil can flashing. I'm at a loss of isldeas and money after the last job. The tentioner went also which was replaced. If anyone has any constructive ideas or help, please lmk. I'm not the best with cars more electronics but I'm not dumb and my cousin is a VW enthusiast and he said to get a oil pressure gague which I ordered a few days ago to get a better idea what's going on. I figured I would ask if anyone had a similar issue or anything. Thanks for your time and thanks for reading!!

Also car is 2001.5 a4 1.8t, The flashing oil light is what the original issue was besides the awful noise from the broken tentioner prior to being fixed, it doesn't always come on, I drove it maybe 6 times since getting it back and 4 out of 6 times the light came on all same length trip.

The oil level sensor on the bottom of the pan could be faulty or the wiring for it. I had the same 3 beep oil can light come on after accidentally kicking the wire under the car and snapping it unknowingly.

Absolute first step is to put a temporary oil pressure gauge on the engine and see what the pressure actually is. We cannot (should not) assume that the pressure is fine and the warning is erroneous. Always best to verify. <Dismounts from High Horse. > You can get a gauge like this from Harbor Freight for $20 or $30. You will put in place of the OEM oil pressure switch, or you can install on the Test Port on top of the oil filter housing. Test port has a 5mm allen plug and is reachable through the intake manifold runners. Threads are Metric M10x1.0. A metric adapter is included in most oil pressure gauge tool kits, like the Harbor Freight unit. It is not the standard (USA) 1/8 inch NPT (pipe thread), that your typical Camaro or Mustang will use. It uses metric straight threads and seals with a copper crush washer.

    Here's a write-up I did on installing a permanent oil pressure gauge on a 2001 1.8T some years back:
    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...stall-Write-Up

Oil pressure warning system on the 1.8T is not straightforward, like it would be on, say...a 1992 Toyota Camry. It has somewhat complex logic that determines when warnings happen.

The oil pressure dashboard warning (Red Oil can with 3 beeps) will alert in any of the following cases:

    - Engine off (zero rpm) and oil pressure switch is still closed (ie: bad switch, it's stuck closed)
    - Coolant temp less than 60C AND engine speed higher than 300 RPM AND oil pressure switch open (cold start should have plenty of oil pressure, but doesn't)
    - At coolant temp over 60C, warning is only recognized when oil pressure switch is open for more than .5 seconds above 1500 RPM. If this condition occurs more than 3 times during a drive, the warning will stay active even below 1300 RPM.
    - At engine speed greater than 5,000 RPM, an active oil pressure warning will not be erased, independent of oil pressure switch input
