    B7 A4 BUDGET exhaust options?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My ARP'ed 06 A4 Quattro Manual has 180k miles and doesn't get driven much anymore. I work from home now and sadly it's showing it's age.

Most recently my exhaust...fell off.. I live in NE Ohio so there's plenty of Salt and snow. I need a budget exhaust that can handle the Ohio weather, I don't care too much about HP gains at this point, and I'd rather it be resonated (quiet).

I was looking at Militek which will probably run me $1300 or so. Any suggestions that's a good option or preferably something less expensive?

Any junkers near you that you could grab an exhaust off of? Although, being in a snow area, those would probably be in no better shape than what you have.

How many exhaust shops have you contacted and asked about having a full system made or repairs done to what you have??? What were their quotes?

0 so far. I'm not against going that route, just not familiar enough with any local shops I can trust to use decent (stainless?) components. I've had exhausts done on other cars and they lasted about 3 years.

yeah exhaust shops are stupid expensive. I think best bet ( as i am in exactly the same boat) is buying one off one of our southern neighbors who might be upgrading and making a trip out of going to get it . A few years ago i saw tons of systems for sale as guys upgraded. Not so much anymore as the car is getting really old and its just not worth much anymore. Hard to believe the newest one now is over 14 years old

you can keep an eye on Amazon. Pre-pandemic I scooped up on of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074NCDTRF for less than $300. I'm sure price/availability is much crappier now, but it was a "good enough" exhaust for the time being, and certainly better than the stock one that was rusting out.

I think people have had good luck with the OBX exhausts on ebay too, though like everything else, they used to be much cheaper than I'm seeing them listed for now.

Wow $300 that's amazing. Sadly it seems to be OOS everywhere that comes up on google. I wish I had time to wait but there's no band aiding my current exhaust it disintegrated.

ECS Tuning has a non-resonated exhaust on sale w/o downpipe for $594, probably loader than I want so I'll have to keep looking. Thanks

Have you checked here? Don't say OOS anyway.
    https://shop.redline360.com/cart

CTS is also on sale for $850. If you really want it quiet, may wanna just go with a Bosal or Walker aftermarket replacement, can buy in sections. Exhaust shop, using aluminized steel, should ba a good option. Id call around. Should be abke to get a decent setup for $600 range. Stainless will prob be double, or close.
I run a BBE exhaust, which ive been very happy with. Its gone up since($1250), but they use 304 SS instead of 409 SS like a lit of others, which corroded and degrades quicker.

I used to run this on my old B7 and it was a good exhaust. Prices have definitely gone up across the board though. Like Vce said, check for local partouts.

You said budget, so I'm throwing this in. I just replaced the entire exhaust under my 07 A4 Avant, from cat back. I was amazed at how well this setup bolted right in. Very complete, and quiet.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/194126142647

You can usually find the downpipe for under $150 if you want to go all the way to the cat.

Thats what I run, but with the b6 center(non-res). Great exhaust, was under $800 when I got it.

i was able to scoop up a Europa Parts recently so my amazon exhaust is free if you're up for trekking down to MD to pick it up. I had to cut one of the center hangers to get it off the car (wish I had a lift, vs just jack stands) and it does show some age since it's been on the car for a couple years, but it's not rusted out. and free!

Tempting but if you live anywhere near Baltimore that's 700 miles roundtrip for me :( WV/PA/MD border is "only" 400. If I drove my Audi you'd hear me coming 400 miles out too :)

*EDIT* I see you're in Mount Airy, about 650 miles roundtrip. Thanks for the offer though. Seriously considering buying that exhaust from redline.

I may ask some exhaust shops how much to help with fitment since I read it may need hanger modification/pipes shortened/etc. Confident I could handle a "quality" exhaust myself with ramps, but I don't weld.

That's interesting from the title I didn't think it included the resonator and pipes but reading the description it does (?). What would you say the weight/corrosion resistance is vs the OEM exhaust?

Non-scientific input here, but it felt like the same weight as the original. It's definitely not some lightweight replacement, and it sure looks like stainless. (I only add that part as an observation of the quality).I've very pleased with the quality of the setup, especially at that price point compared to OEM.

Any corrosion thus far? Did you need anything extra to install it beside downpipe?

I'm trying to find a replacement rubber driver side muffler mount also, mine is torn

Nothing extra. I've honestly never had an easier project. I expected all sorts of billy-hell under a car with 162K mostly in the Northeast. I removed the cross member just forward of the center muffler, right under the clamp. Four triple square bolts. The two bands on the muffler clamp which attaches the muffler to the front pipe were rusted through, as I figured they would be, but after prying the bands off, the actual clamp body slid left and right easily. I was amazed. Gotta love stainless steel. I then used a Lisle 38350 Exhaust Hanger Removal Pliers, and the mufflers and resonators popped right out of the hangar brackets. Easy-peazy.

I put some silicone grease on the hangar rubber and the "hooks" on the muffler/resonators, and before you can say Bob's your uncle, the system was in.

I had a local shop put in the downpipe, because I didn't think I could get it out laying on my back with the car on jackstands. I provided the downpipe (Bosal from eBay), and they charged me 2 hours labor to install it.

So I bought the ebay exhaust and installed it today, it's made by a company called OES (Original Exhaust Systems) and was manufactured in India. I believe it's aluminized steel, so it'll probably last 4 years max.

Good to hear it worked out. Mine will be in NoVA vs. SoNH for it's next few years, so we'll see how it holds out. I think four years might be long enough.
