    Valve Cover & bolt replacement

So i had a little oil seeping out of the right side valve cover, which I suspect the leaking is/was caused from pcv going bad (which i'm also replacing).

Got a missing bolt now, no idea how as the bolts don't usually come off the cover on their own unless you push them out. It looks like the bolts are not sold and you must buy the whole valve cover!

I ordered 03G128773A thinking i could simply remove the rubber grommet and it would work, but the bolt is literally too short despite it showing up on most part sites for the RS4.

Planning to just buying the left side valve cover (it's an 07 with early "defective" cover which isn't even leaking) and using one of the old bolts from that cover on the missing right side cover.

Unless of course someone can source me a spare bolt from under their pillow.

I don't think they even sell the gasket for those valve covers any more, could be wrong but you might as well replace them with the "leak free" valve covers and hold on to the old ones but I know you don't want to.

Right, they don't. you'll get the redesigned gasket/cover if you order them. My left side isn't leaking, so it's rather redundant to replace the whole valve cover.
from what i gather, the resigned wasn't even revised for possible leaks, it's actually so water doesn't get into the last spark plug hole (back).

The right side valve cover (079103472AF stamped from my cover) doesn't even appear to be as widely available and actually costs more. so, since I mysteriously lost a bolt on the right cover during the gasket replacement, I might as a well just buy the left side cover and use one of those old bolts on the missing right side cover.

Anyhow, looks like i'll be ordering a whole valve cover due to a missing bolt that can't be purchased on its own

Are you looking for one of the two that are in the middle of the valve cover?

or the ones around the perimeter?

I think the perimeter ones are the same as B7 2.0 valve cover bolts, which you can find in a wrecking yard pretty easily, take a pick of the missing bolt.

none of the bolts on the RS4 cover have rubber grommets. the gasket on the valve cover goes around each bolt so i guess they weren't necessary.

I guess the bolts are unique to the car and Audi didn't resuse them off another model.

They look like the attached photo, except i cut off the gromment thinking it would work, but the spacer is too long (length wise) and the threaded part is too short.

FYI I might still have the bolts from my old cover. The new covers come with all new hardware. If I find the bolts I believe I have, I can mail you one.

New cover with bolts. The bolts are black and include a rubber grommet but they are longer than the bolts which show up on all parts sellers sites as fitting an rs4.
