Anyone cleaned their coolant exp tank ? if so how ?

I seem to recall years ago on some car I used hydrochloric acid,I know I know seems extreme but it is plastic and worked iirc.
Any other thoughts as mine is pretty gungy considering the low mileage and coolant replacement done,it drags the look of the otherwise clean engine bay down.....

You can get a new tank for $20. Just saying. If it's that discolored it's a leak waiting to happen.

To directly answer your question I have had luck with straight cooling system cleaner from the parts store for getting sludge out of tanks. Pour it in, shake, rinse, repeat.

$20,not in Australia though, basically only genuine here for parts like that but good thought about the system cleaner...

I'm wondering how vinegar would work.I've only just discovered what an effective rust remover it is and it works de-scaling coffee machines for sure.Way more user friendly than H.acid.

    +1!

OP - definitely try and determine what caused the discoloration. Mine was discolored as well when I purchased. I thought the PO might have used the wrong coolant or tried some additive. My coolant reservoir was stained with a brown/orange hue. It wouldn’t come out. I discovered a heater core leak shortly after that.

Once I fixed the heater core problem, my coolant remained pink. I then just replaced the reservoir and it has been fine ever since!

Interesting as my coolant has the same colour hue,no leaks so far touch wood.

After 10+ years, genuine stock tanks can crack. I have replaced more than 3 original tanks over the years in different Audi(s).

I replaced the coolant reservoir in my 2014 last year. Wasn’t leaking yet but I could see the start of a crack from the heat cycling of the polymer. Good friend’s 2015 had the same issue but his was very slowly starting to leak around the same mileage (he is down in Florida so the car is generally seeing higher temps year round than mine). Pretty easy to replace just have some extra coolant on hand
