    Oil level warning reset

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My low oil warning (not low pressure) came on today. Topped off the oil as it was on the low end of the dip stick, and the warning doesn't seem to want to go away

Any ideas how to fix it?

I don’t know if that requires a reset. I assume your dipstick level is right on?

It should be, hadnt been touched. After adding 750ml of oil and being 3/4 on the dip stick I would think it should turn off. Maybe its stuck or not working well.

I suspect you have a bad sensor, faulty wiring, or something else may be going on. Unplug the oil level sensor and see what happens. Clean things up. Check your pigtail for any damage. The sensor is on the bottom of the oil pan (I assume. You have a different engine code if I recall. Shouldn’t matter, but what do I know about Aussie Audis.)

After buying a new oil level sensor and having it shipped, the car has decided the oil level is ok again before I got to replace the sensor.

Not sure exactly what triggered the reset, but I would have done maybe 1-200km and a refill of the tank.

No amount of messing with the hood switch appeared to do anything.

Problem solved for now, now I just have a spare oil level sensor!

If I'm not mistaken, it's normal that it goes away after driving for some time when topping it off. Mine went away after driving 80-90km

I’m really sorry if I lead you astray, that just seems like an odd thing to have programmed into the ECU with such a critical component. Hopefully it’s all sorted and you can return the oil level sensor.

Its not a problem, I appreciate the advice. It was only ~$30 from rock auto.

I mostly posted up the resolution in case someone else had the same issue, so they give it a bit more time.

I find it very peculiar I had to do nearly 200km before the ECU bothers to properly check the oil level again, but then it seems consistent with the peculiarities of the car.
