Tires sizes on a B9 S5 sportback prestige /black optics package

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does someone know if 275/30/20 or 285/30/20 tires will fit the stock rotor 20inch wheels on the sportback ? Currently running the OEM spec of 265/30/20 but want to get something beefier . Also if I wanted to run spacers on these stock wheels to make the wheels sit flush with the fenders what would I run , I read someone said 18 mm in back and 15 mm in the front . Any help and insight would be appreciated PXL_20220722_013537629.jpg

275s should be fine, not sure about 285 though. It will depend greatly on the tire - for example, the 265 OEM Conti is 'stretched' compared to the 265 Bridgestones that I replaced them with. I much prefer the look of the Bridgestone FWIW. See below. Also I would hold off on spacers until you do the tires (and also decide whether you're lowering the car). 15mm/18mm is on the aggressive side IMO. That's 10mm in the rear. GL.

Did you try looking at the wheel thread (https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...heel-Gallery)? I saw someone running 285 with the stock wheels but can't find the post on the thread, I personally prefer wider wheels than spacers. Pretty sure 285/30 will rub with any passenger load in the rear but 275/30 fits fine with no rubbing. I have 275 on the S5 but mine is a coupe.

I am running 275/30 on the black optic 20s on my 19 SB. No rubbing on stock adaptive suspension even with 5 people and luggage. I cannot speak as to the spacers as I do not run them.

Audi OE B-segment 20s are 20x9.0. You have to check the supported wheel width for the specific tire you're looking at. 285/30r20 is quoted as supported on 9.5 minimum width by Michelin, such as the PS4S. So I'd say 275/30r20, such as used on the 20x9.0 with the RS5, is as wide a tire as you should use on the stock rims.

I did the same to mine, swapped my 265/30/20 factory tires because they were too low profile for these NYC roads lol. I actually put on 275/35/20, went an extra size beefier just to have the cushion, I don't plan on lower the car or adding spacers so I wasn't worried about rubbing, although I will say if you do get 275/35 you want to stick to brands like Continental or Vredestein (I have this), as they run narrower sidewalls than other brands like Michelin which are more squared. So my clearance was just enough with this size, I rubbed a little bit on the inner fender liner but i was able to kind of nudge it out the way and fold it back sort of and it's not been an issue since. see my post here for info on that: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...1#post14710431

If you don't want to go that thick, then 275/30 will fit fine, it's just slightly more but it will also fill in more than the stock Conti 265/30, because like i mentioned Continental sidewalls run narrower than average so those 265/30 looks extra stretched, also being summer tires too, if you get all-seasons those should run a bit wider, so 275 is just 10mm more but it will fill in a lot more still, look at the stock RS5 wheel size for reference, it's 275/30/20 so you'll get that same fitment as that.

285/30/20 will fit the car, but it's a bit too wide for the stock wheels which are 9" wide, 275 is the most i'd go on those, 285 will look too bubbly and will affect handling i'd think. 285 you need at least 9.5-10" for a good fit.

so 275/30 would be the "stock" choice and will fit just fine. you could also even look into 255/35, that will be slightly thicker but not too thick, definitely wont rub or anything and it's a good size, the prices on 255/35/20 are much better too.

as for spacers, it will depend on the tire size you get. if you go with 275/30 then i would probably do 10mm front and 15mm rear, so you get a nicer fitment near flush, but wont rub or anything. if you get 255/35 then you can probably do 12-15mm front and 18-20mm rear.

I ran 275/30/20 Conti and switched to 285/30/20 for a bit more sidewall - car is not lowered. Using BC Forged rims 20x10 ET32. Zero issues.

Sorry just for clarification, you ran 275s and then 285s on the OEM black optics wheels? What tire exactly was that 285 on the BO wheel? Any pics of either? Thanks!

Are you running 275/30/20 in the pic with those 10 mm spacers in the back ? Also, are you on stock height ? I plan on possibly getting Michelin pilot sport 4s tires , possibly 275/30/20

This where I saw someone post running 285/30/20 on stock rotor wheels. I plan on getting wider tires in the future 20x10 +30 mm but for now I was going to get new tires on the OEM wheels but wanted a flush look on the car for the wheels

Thanks for all of the very helpful info. Good to know the continental tires have a much more stretched look compared to Michelin which are more squared look. Also , thanks for the spacer suggestions for 275/30/20 tires . Seems like this most likely the route I'm taking for now . As far as going 275/35/20 I'm not sure it will work since I'm planning on adding the spacers to the setup .

Running 275/30/20 PS AS's on OEM 20" rotors, 20mm spacer all around, max camber in rear and it rubs only with a full tank of gas on big dips.
