My folded bumper

I'd bet you guys with an "experienced" front bumper have run into these. I had a few problems on my front bumper cover. I thought this won't be perfect (I was right) but for a daily driver with 170,000 miles, it might be the most flawless body part on the car (right again).

So I bought from MBI auto, you can find them on Amazon. $310 Shipped. I sent them my paint code, and in about 5 days you get a package that looks like this.



This is what's inside.



It was a hot, sunny day, I put it on the roof of my office to unfold.

Honestly, I could point to a couple rough spots on this.. But on a 170,000 mile car, this is the best body panel I have. I would recommend.

lol, glad it came out gud enough.= ) My bumper has paint chips out the ass, but meh...it's a daily.

Nice, have to keep that in mind for the cost if I ever do a rejuvenation project on the avant. At 240k miles, my bumper cover and particularly the hood are very "experienced".

Yes! Looks like a cost effective replacement solution!!! I did not realize they came painted! I’ll have to look these up. Any issues with the paint along the fold lines?

Yep. The one above was my second one. The first one they sent me had a bad crease where the paint cracked open. Even after it sat in the sun and unfolded all the way, that gash wasn't going to heal. I sent them a picture of it, and they did not hesitate to ship me another one. I was really impressed with their customer service.

I'm amazed that a few hours in the sun and they pretty much unfold themselves...right to the way they were before the folding. And the paint seems to be quite elastic....to a point.

Actually....Cambridge is south of me. In fact, I've read that half of Canada's population lives south of Minneapolis.

That is actually true. people ask if i have ever Minnesota and i always reply thats way too far North up there , thats far too cold.
Actually on the weekend i was the most Southern person in all of mainland Canada. Point Pelee juts out into lake Erie and if you walk to the point you are the most Southern person. There are about 8 states I think North of me. People have a hard time believing that.

Ha! Me too! I looked on their website. Really seems like a great deal. The b8.5 sline bumpers are out of stock (sucks for me). Wonder how close the color match is. I’d need moonlight blue metallic. Even taking this chance is way cheaper than any other option I have explored. My current bumper is mangled on the bottom and has the mounting tab ripped off. I saved all the pieces and was going to repair with touch up paint and plastic welding. This really seems like a great option. They even gave the option of shipping unfolded but you pay more. Even with the additional charge - still seems like a viable deal!

Its probably made of out polyurethane. Its a cost effective material but its downside is that it shrinks and expands with temperature. Might cause issues over time with few temperature cycles. Anyway as you said its for a 170k vehicle it does not need to be perfect.

All I know about poly is that it makes a good finish for wood. So I have no idea what it would look/feel like in this application. But I do know a bit about ABS, and I've worked with, and repaired it, over the years. This sure seems like every ABS body part I've ever handled.
