    A3 Build or swap…

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
just got back to driving after a horrible situation which I won’t go into. Totaled my built 2015 a3… bought a 2016 a3 recently to replace it. The question is…. Is it worth me going is38 with internals and full supporting mods or would it be more prudent to get an s3 motor and start there? WWAZD…lol

I looked when buying this car, most of the s3 on the market were beat to death or heavily modded. I wanted a blank canvas and found a nice, literal old man owned a3 with 50k I bought for a nice price

No point in building internals unless you plan on going with a hybrid turbo. IMO best bang for your buck is going with a Vortex XL from EQTuning. Your A3 engine will be fine and there is no need to swap to an S3 engine, they are quite similar.

Doing the amount of exhaustive… almost autistic level research…. I’m pretty sure I’m going to get an is38 with supporting mods

lol.. that's where all the fun is.. the getting is better than the having, but I'm sure you'll enjoy it. What tune are you going to use? Don't forget the DSG tune.

Any of the parts from your old A3 fit your new A3?

Whats the main difference's between the A3 motor and the S3 motor? is38? ECU supporting it?

From my understanding, anything Vortex XL and under will not require a built motor if your tuner keeps the torque under 450-420 wtq. No need to build for IS38 at all. There are supposedly slight differences in the a3 vs s3 motors, but if you look around, they make similar power on similar mods and have similar failure points. So if you can go is38 for less than the difference in cost, you aren't losing much more than the badge. There will be some differences in the car depending on year and s-line, etc.

Once you build the motor, they are essentially the same in regards to potential.

When I totaled my Fahrenheit Jetta, I asked the insurance co where the car was - they let me go get all my "personal effects" including my key mods (I told them I was gonna grab mods and they ok'd it). Maybe you could too?

Worst part is, I lost my uniconnect, mods…. Spoke to unitronic, they said they’d help, and now they’re entirely ignoring me…. Meanwhile I’ve probably spent 20k + in their products over 3-4 cars…and now I’m forgotten entirely

I've gotten the silent treatment from them periodically too. Try reaching out to John Staffi?
