Alternator ate it yesterday, or at least that seems to be what happened - the dealer won't be able to diagnose the car until tomorrow at the earliest so we'll see.

Car drove perfectly normally leading up to the failure. Everything was working perfectly, no warnings of any kind popped up. Went into a store, came out 30 minutes later, started the car, warning light after warning light came up. Suspension, airbags, pre-sense, cruise, the list went on and on. I was at least 90 minutes away from my preferred dealer but luckily the nearest dealer was only 4km away. Driving over there, steering was very firm, air suspension was rock hard.

17423km on it. Absolutely no indication the alternator was going to fail. It just did. My wife is very NOT pleased as she was with me when this all went down.

And Audi Care is just an absolute joke of a service.

Totally sucks. In the USA there doesn't seem to be any roadside service worth talking about. Just two weeks ago AAA was called in to tow my truck to a mechanic. In the 48 hours it took them to respond (TWO FULL DAYS!) they once called me at 1:15 am just to verify that I needed a tow!

MY23 RS6 with about 4k miles. Had a great experience two weeks ago, when my Audi Connect stopped syncing/connecting with the network. Noticed that the MyAudi app stopped updating and the SOS button was intermittently turning on and off for about a week. Finally I could not even log into the MMI as myself, and it kicked me off. Brought my car to Audi San Diego without an appointment. Their technologist spent about an hour trying to diagnose the issue with no success. Then they took it into the shop, and the tech had to go into the code through the OBD port, reset it back to Germany standards, then rewrite the code to base format. Had to be re-authenticated with Audi Connect... but it only took about an hour to finish up. Car has worked great since then.

No other issues so far. Made sure to break in the car up to 1k miles, then changed the oil shortly after, and got everything checked out. Thinking about not using the stop/start function, since so many people have had issues with the 48v system.

Turns out this was all caused by an alignment issue even though the alignment was just checked by a different dealer last week when it was in for servicing.

So not a warrantable expense, so $399 for the alignment, $189 for diagnosis, and $50 per day for the rental car.

Plus they flashed my ECU for the crappy fuel update without even asking me (I don't want it even though I'm stock).

Pretty pissed off at Audi right now.

How does and alignment translate to an alternator.

Any time the car is in for service, if an update for software exists, it will be done, unless you expressly tell them not to.

It wasn't the alternator. All the above symptoms were caused by the car being out of alignment.

The new software update did not make the car sluggish in any way, which was what I was most worried about and also quieted down the cooling fans substantially. I guess they actually programmed them based on the engine temp and possibly even ambient. The noise was ridiculous before.

Neither has my service tech. I'm getting the alignment printout and sending it over to him. My car has the RWS.

I would be very wary of something else going on - like the dreaded 48V system. Bad Alignment causing all of these issues seems...less likely but I am hoping that is all that is going on!

Anyone else noticing a creaking noise coming from the driver front suspension/wheel area under low speed maneuvers? Breaking, accelerating, turning, anytime load is placed on the chassis - a creaking noise comes from that area and is clearly audible over the engine and exhaust noise. It does not occur at higher speeds, only at low speeds - like parking lot speeds.

I’m about one week into mine and did notice a few creaks at low speeds. Been waiting to see if it’s consistent or not but also does not happen at higher speeds. Thought I ran something over small at first.

I heard something similar, I think, yesterday in a parking lot. Had both windows down but, to me, sounded like pass side. Frankly, I am not concerned about it. I have owned der Audi long enough to know when to feel concern about a noise. This wasn't one of those noises.

After several recalls, major parts failures, and a quote of about $7k to do pads, rotors, tires, and an alignment.. I sold mine back to the dealer on Sat.

It's been a good run. 27k miles of smiles. But the car is a little pricey to maintain and the long time reliability is suspect.

I had a clean car fax and they offered me a big fat check over the payoff and to return my wheels, exhaust, and lowering module back to stock at their cost. Considering the values are starting to cool off and I was skipping out on a major repair bill, decided it was time to punch out.

Easily one of the coolest cars I've ever owned though! I am not sure I've ever parked it and not taken a quick look back to admire it. I would have got another one to stay under the bumper to bumper, but there are simply no allocations available. At least at a reasonable MSRP with no ADM.

On to the next thing but that car will be missed!

Glad you enjoyed the ride. I am happy I got the extended warranty on mine but still don't relish the possibility of getting stranded in a very unfortunate spot. But, I don't let that stop me from driving her! Hoping by the time I need brakes some easily obtainable aftermarket stuff exists.

Sorry you had to sell the RS6.. I am at 15k with my 2021 RS7 and no issues so far just routine maintenance and recalls. The tires are in great conditions as I swap winters to summers so have plenty of tread left. Brakes holding up very well especially with the Unitronic Stage 1+ tune. I dont track or launch it much. What do you plan to replace it with?

Good idea. They will last well over 100k miles if not tracked or abused. Plus, Audi's CCBs don't squeak at all. Love them on mine.

A coworker flagged me down in the garage a few weeks ago bc he thought something was stuck to my tire. I can only hear the noise with windows down and making turns in my work garage. I’m also not worrying about it.

No squeeks? You are either a last second brakeman or have perfect CCBs... Both my B9 RS5 & C8 RS6 squeeks like a bat out of hell, then I do the 20mph-slam-brake solution, which resolves the issue for a day or two.

I also have the clicks and creeks coming from both sides of the suspension. Not super worried given this is my 3rd audi and it seems like a uniquely audi thing.

23k miles on my '22 RS6. Have had it exactly a year.

Electrical System Malfunction and Sport Differential Malfunction...

So bummed. Contemplating what to do after the dealer fixes it.

21 RS6 with 10k miles, I went around a roundabout with some spirit and got the "Sport Differential Fault" warning. No prior issues, no start/stop issues...anyone else have this issue? I plan on taking it in Monday regardless but wasn't sure if I should tow it there or try to drive.

I had the same issue with my 2019 A7 and now with my 2021 RS7, both times it was the starter generator, only issue is that this time they found my APR Tuning and told me my warranty is now voided, super pissed because this is a $3700 repair and I know it has nothing to do with the tune, but just an FYI, if it is the same thing it will start with one thing like sport differential and then another and another until you get a warning to pull over immediately…

I don't think I am a super late brakeman, haha. But even putting around, or in the morning when the car is cold, I have no squeaking. I can hear the calipers pushing the pads against the rotors (definitely unique to these CCBs), say if I am slowly moving up in a drive through.. but no squeaking. Maybe I am lucky on that.

    Plus. Pretty much zero dust!

My SRT Jeep, SRT Charger, and C6 S6 had terrible brake squeaking at slow speeds, especially if the braking system was cold.

No clicks or creeks from my suspension, but I just hit 6500 miles on my 2023 RS6. Will give it time and see if anything develops.

Agreed that line is a load. Audi has even extended the warranty on the BSG due to the known defect with many/most? of them.

What happened to your infotainment? Forgive me if you’ve detailed it somewhere else. My back up camera stopped working yesterday and today none of the cameras work. Trying to gather some info while being extremely annoyed.

There is a recall for some C8’s that the informationment system was made with a faulty voltage regulator. This voltage regulator can malfunction and brick the whole MMI. Since the MMI displays the backup camera, it was considered a safety recall as without the MMI there would be no backup camera. At first Audi said “no solution available”. They have just recently sent out a letter saying the fix is replacing the MMI, about a 3 hour job per the letter.

Not all C8’s were affected by the recall.

91EI is the recall code for this. There was a separate recall, 91DZ, I believe, that was related to the rear view camera but was just a software update. 91EI is a hardware replacement.

91EI is the recall code for this. There was a separate recall, 91DZ, I believe, that was related to the rear view camera but was just a software update. 91EI is a hardware replacement.
Interesting. I just got it back about 10 days ago from its 1 year service where they updated software and reportedly took care of all recalls on the car.

    Painful

+1 one for the rattle from B&O door spears (mostly passenger) and disspointment. Sound great, but a low frequency induced vibration is unnaccetable - dealer argeed and brought it in today to resolve, fingers crossed... If/when you get yours resolved, can you let me know what worked?

No luck... dealer added/adjusted some sound insulation hoping to resolve, but no improvement. Seems to be an issue with the speaker/grill. Super annoying for a fairly costly audio upgrade.

Have any 2023 RS6's gone down with the alternator issue yet? In the market for a 2023 and hoping they made some tweaks to fix the issue...

My RS6 has been at the dealer since the end of May waiting for the alternator.. My Audi app just pinged saying hood open, left window open, etc. Hoping the parts have showed up and I'll be back in her soon.

Has anyone heard if the issue is resolved after getting the alternator replaced? I searched and couldn't find a clear answer. Kind of the same question that SwissMtn above me asked...
