Center Muffler delete on RS5 2010 - how loud is it with closed flaps?

So i recently bought a RS5, everything absolutely bone stock except the previous owner replaced the Mid muffler seen in the picture.

The Box got removed and straight piped.

Now Stock Cats, first pair of Resonators and Rear Mufflers are completely stock. Its only the box on the image that got removed.

The car is ear deafening loud on cold start. It sounds like a fighter jet.

Reason is my Rear Muffler exhaust flaps are always open because they seem to be worn out and stuck. Can't get them working anymore. Does someone here have a mid resonator delete too and can tell me how loud the car is at cold start and normal driving with the Flaps closed (when they work) ? My neighbors already hate me. Now i don't know if i want to invest 800€ in a new rear resonator with working flaps if it does only little. At 4125 RPM i measured 91 dB in stationary. The car is rated at 78 dB in the papers.

Your flaps might just need some lubrication. It’s pretty quiet closed (I have the ECS midpipe and stock mufflers). Check the module in the trunk and make sure it’s plugged in. Then wiggle your hands up and check the vacuum lines above each box.

When I had my Remus exhaust put in it had new down pipes with no resonators, no middle resonator, and the Remus mufflers. It was wake the dead loud no matter what state the flaps were in starting up (and running). After a few months I had to install the Remus middle resonator. I do miss it at times as I think it’s too quiet now. Guess it’s hard to find a happy medium.

That’s a full exhaust. The factory mufflers are pretty damn effective and I’m running downpipes and ECS midpipe. If OP wants I can make some clips tomorrow.

Oh yeah, that would be great! I'll try to get them loose again today, if nothing helps it will mean i need a complete new muffler/resonator set.

Ok I just took some footage. I’ll upload it to YouTube and then post it here soon.

It's always going to have a fairly loud initial bark on cold start since the valves won't close until the car starts and creates vacuum to close them. After the initial loud bark, then the valves close and it's a little louder than stock but not too loud. Normal driving is pretty quiet with the valves closed. This is with the center muffler replaced with an ECS x-pipe and everything else stock with factory sport exhaust.

I have put old towels inside the Valved pipe to see if its noticably quieter. My god its a huge difference, im okay with it.

Still don't know how to get rid of that stupid valve problem. First they rattle like crazy even in idle (like they are loose or something), but on another side they don't move an inch and i can't get them moving even with a screwdriver trying to push them down.

check your vacuum lines on the side that you have problems with. Have you tried spraying it with some WD-40 or some lubricant?

And to respond to your initial post, yes. Deleting the resonator and replacing with straight through pipes makes the car VERY LOUD. I measured 115db on the initial bark on a cold start. Then it warms up from 100-103db then settles to around 90db. I think an x pipe may be quieter than just straight through pipes.
