Audi A4 strange sound, vacuum pump sounds

    Hello guys!

how are you guys? I hope well.

Well, I was driving my Audi A4 on the road, when I entered the city, I heard a noise like "tac tac, of part", and so, I drove to my house and parked the car.

I have the VCDS, and soon I checked the car for errors, in general, no errors, in the ignition module, and no injection light came on.

However, a noise coming from the side of the vacuum pump as if it was picking up a part, I don't know what it could be.
I recorded a video below, if anyone has an idea, and can help me, let me know.

I removed the fuel pump, for inspection, and put it back in, and nothing...

Remembering, the car didn't lose power, it didn't turn on the injection light, and it didn't give any error in the VCDS. it's normal.

But this annoying noise of parts is strange you can hear it from inside and outside the car, and it's loud, and I won't drive the car until I solve it.
Do you think I should remove the vacuum pump? Has anyone had a similar problem?

The roller tappet for the HPFP was fine?

You might need to get in there with a paint stick or broom handle or such to better isolate the sounds.

Could be the vacuum pump; don't think I've ever seen anyone post having an issue with the pump other than seals leaking (air or oil).

Yes, I took the tappet off and checked, it is turning perfect, without anomalies and scratches.

I'm going to do the test you said with the broom stick. hahahaha

but the noise comes from there, it's very strange.

does anyone else have an idea?

    update:

with the diagnostic tool (haha) (cable or screwdriver), I was able to locate the noise in the head on the (penultimate inlet tappet), and then I opened the valve cover, and nothing broken inside, no rocker, the valves are ok, all ok! Only one tappet in the exact place that was noisy from the powerful tool, the tappet looks strange, it had oil pressure, and then I removed the pressure, and not much oil came out inside it, since the others had much more oil.

Well, I'm buying a new tappet, and I will put and close everything and test.

I believe it can only be that, there is nothing broken, nothing that can say "here is the problem", it's really quite strange also the car doesn't crash and doesn't generate errors in the VCDS.

    lol!

Let's go ahead, if anyone else has anything else.

    thanks.

Very interesting. So how the intake camshaft powers the fuel pump, the exhaust camshaft powers vacuum pump and the tappet at the rear failed? I've never heard that happening before on B8. I thought that was a problem on B7 with the HPFP tappet.

The exhaust cam works both hpfp and vacuum pump at the same time on the b8.

Also there is permatex anaerobic formula you can buy at AutoZone or O'Reilly's...part source (in Canada) at a fraction of the cost of the original VW goo.

Idk I've heard that green goo is some pretty stuff to seal your valve cover

Did you ever resolve this? Also do you have the video of the tick? The link that you posted is not working. I have what sounds like a similar ticking and just wondering if you ever resolved this. Thanks

My A4 B7 is making some strange noise, like ticking sound. When the engine is cold, the noise isn’t there, at least not audible (no pun intended), it only comes when the engine is warm. It’s like ”click click click”, like maybe 1-2 clicks per second. I bought a stethoscope to listen around the engine. At the back part of the engine, I hear cam chain rasping (doesn’t sound bad), and wehen I move the probe still 5cm backwards (I think the part is the vacuum pump, as there starts a hose that goes to the booster).I hear a distinct and loud ”klak klak klak”, so with stethoscope it sounds different than with plain ears. So, a new vacuum pump it is, or is this a well known problem with an easy and cheap fix?
