Crank case breather valve cost

2014 Audi RS7 loud whistling noise started. Did some research on the forum and figured it was the PCV valve. Took car to dealer today and they let me know it needs a new breather valve and cost to repair is $3900. Car is out of warranty and I have an aftermarket warranty on the car (Route 66 is the warranty company) but it only covers powertrain (plus most times these aftermarket warranties are worthless anyway)

Anyone else had to pay out for these repairs if so what did it you?

I don’t have Audi extended warranty. Only extended warranty I have is what was offered through my credit union which does not cover this. My extended warranty is through a company called Route 66 and it’s only a power train warranty

Audi was forced to extend the warranty on the PCV and turbochargers by the federal government. iirc.

What he means is AoA has issued a factory extended warranty. Aka Go to the dealer (clearly a different dealer) and get it looked at - if it’s deemed to be a bad PCV, they will replace it free of charge.

I’m no expert in this but would the breather valve fall under the same classification as the pcv valve? When my dealer called me back he stated I would need a new breather valve but did not mention pcv.

Is there anywhere I can pull the information on the warranty being extended to show any dealer I take it too?

Do a search for "Crankcase Ventilation Valve Extended Warranty". What is your mileage? Does your car have an ECU tune? That would void the warranty.

PCV - Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve, is the same thing as a “breather valve”

The dealer should know about the extended warranty on the PCV system. The fact that they are trying to charge you should be a red flag. Are you outside of the extended warranty? Are you tuned?

If you are not tuned and not outside the warranty parameters I think I would find a better dealer. You don’t have a dealer, you have a stealer.

Not all VINs are covered. Mine was not on the PCV.

Update: so I’m not eligible for the extended warranty since my car is tuned. Called a local performance shop that mainly works on Audi’s and they quoted $2400. Still expensive but much better price point than original quote from the stealer ship

Check clauses with the insurance, the shop might be able to do the warranty work. Often aftermarket warranties are not concerned with the tune. This is part of your powertrain and might be covered.

FWIW here is my complete dealer breakdown of PCV and strainer replacement.
It was ~$3200 for just the PCV less discount so ~$2900 plus I got a few hundred dollars of loaner and gas out of them.
