Part number for S4 B9 ZF8 transmission oil pan?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Looking for a little guidance, I am servicing oil and filter on my S4 and purchased a kit from AutoDoc using the cars details to confirm compatability.
After preparing to do the job today I encountered a problem, the part number on the oil pan currently on the car has part number "0501 220 926 C" the part number on the oil pan I received has part number "0501 225 980"
I have contacted the seller and have been waiting all day for them to confirm if it is the correct part. I can not continue the job because I dont want get half way through then not be able to fit the new oil pan/filter.
It is either the wrong part or possibly a part that has been revised.
I have tried my best googling, the OE number for the kit I bought is "0D5 398 009 C" but this kit has no metion of either part numbers
    Any help will be appreciated

Can you post a picture of the top side of the new oil pan? And a closeup of one section of the gasket?

    Picture of top.
I can get a close up of the seal tomorrow but it is a rubber gasket type that sits in a groove in the plastic.

So, the pan pictured from your ordering website is a slightly different model number than the one which was delivered. I experienced the same thing, however the model I purchased was listed as model 1103 298 006. ZF advised that due to supply chain shortages, there are 3 different models available.

    0D5 398 009 A is ZF part# 1103.298.008:009, this includes oil pan 0501.220.955
    0D5 398 009 B is ZF part# 1103.298.112:009, this includes oil pan 0501.226.563
    0D5 398 009 C is ZF part# 1103.298.006:009, this includes oil pan 0501.225.980.

I don’t believe this is the whole story, but that was the response I received.
To summarize, it seems that just purchasing item 0D5 398 009 may no longer result in receiving an identical pan. Vendors will need to list accurate pictures of items which will be received by the buyer.
Supposedly these pans may be interchangeable, but not only are the built in filter and drain plug designs different, but the gasket dimensions/design are also wildly dissimilar.

Those pans are for different purposes is what I thought I had found.

    https://www.automaticchoice.com/en/8hp65a-fil01
    8HP65A/8HP65AHIS OILPAN W/FILTER - FOR AUDI/VW WITH HIS ACCUMULATOR - ZF

    https://www.automaticchoice.com/en/8...w-8hp65a-fil02
8HP65A(X)IEP/8HP65A(X)PH/8HP66APH OILPAN W/FILTER - FOR AUDI/BENTLEY/PORSCHE/VW WITH INTEGRATED ELECTRICAL PUMP (IEP) - ZF

I thought Audi had switched from the HIS implementation with the 0BK/0BL to the IEP implementation with the 0D5/0D6. So the white container pan would seem more correct. But it also seems 0D5 might vary between using both implementations. The actual transmission code would be necessary.

Looks like RHU and SHP are HIS variants, while RVM is IEP. Don't know about RJE, TMA, or TMB.

Regarding the Audi part numbers, rev A / B / C. What seems to be is there was A until Apr 30 '20, when it was replaced by B. C is the full repair kit with the bolts, plugs, etc. During the A days, the rest of the pieces were in the 0D5 398 010 "repair kit for oil sump", disco Apr 30 '20. But it very well could be that A, later B with the kit included, is for HIS while C is for IEP.

And it could well be ZF is saying f it these days, use whichever you can get in your hands.

Thanks for the input C-12 and Smac770.
It does seem to be a issue with communication and information provided when purchasing service kits.
A list of all individual part numbers should be provided when purchasing each kit as well as any information regarding revisions and alternate parts that are compatible.
I will await the green light from the supplier or ZF who I contacted today regarding this.
After looking at the plate on the transmission I have the ZF 8HP65-A with transmission code SHP, not sure if there will be differences between these depending on the region.

Excellent news! The drain plug design on the new pan seems superior to the old one. Did you have any trouble accessing the 3 bolts closest to the front of the car without removing the subframe?

No major issues accessing the 3 bolts at the front, quite tight but just about managed, was 1 bolt on the nearside that the subframe was in the way, couldn't quite manage to get the torque wrench in there but could get a standard 1/4 ratchet in so just went by feel, no leaks.
I was slightly worried I would have trouble sliding the old pan out, not sure if there would be enough room to drop it down to the subframe and slide it but it did.
Followed the whole filling procedure but was unable to cycle through the gears, it just would not go above 1st gear, used VCDS and topped it up when it got to 40C
I took roughly 5.5 litres out after measuring and accounting for spillages, put back in 5.5 litres before it started dripping out so no problem there, took it for a test and all felt fine, smooth through the gears, no strange noises, cant say I feel any difference but after seeing the build up of metal on the magnets its got to have helped.

Can you share where you got the kit? And how did you ensure the lines and the cooler are flushed? Is there some procedure with instructions that you followed?

I thought the fluid was considered to be lifetime? From my understanding, in layman's terms, changing the fluid could actually cause the clutches to slip, as they wear the fluid needs a more gritty material for friction for the clutches to grab. The only service Items I found in the Audi book was spark plugs, pretty comical.

Audi consider them “lifetime”. ZF recommend you change at no more than 60,000 miles.

Has anyone here used a substitute for ZF Lifeguard Fluid 8 (I know Audi rebrands it as Audi/VW ATF Automatic Transmission Fluid (Item# G060162A2)) such as Liqui Moly TOP TEC 1800 ATF (Item# LM20032)? According to LM, Top Tec 1800 ATF meets the Audi specs for G060162. But if you talk to an Audi parts or service department they say there is no equivalent to G060162 - even the ZF LGF. I figure that is them trying to get as much $$$ as possible at $40+ a liter because I think it has been established that Audi just rebrands the ZF LGF8. The documentation from ZF doesn't have the LM Top Tec 1800 ATF, but I'm wondering if anyone has used it successfully.

I changed mine at 150k km/90k miles with ZF Lifeguard 8 and https://www.ebay.com/itm/12443813739...EAAOSwlHRfrpct this ZF oil pan. Shifts smoothly, wouldn't use other oils since you can get the same ZF 8 oil cheaper from elsewhere.

I got the kit from a website called AutoDoc.
I do not have the instructions anymore but was just a case of draining, remove sump/filter, new sump/filter on, top up, get up to certain temp then top up again.
Just like a engine oil change you will never get every drop of oil, its more of a refresh and filter change so did not wory about cooler, I do not think there was any mention of the cooler in instructions

Nope, I changed the oil twice, drove about 2000km in between. There was 12l package of ZF8 fluid for sale in ebay which was enough for the double change, still have one 1l bottle left.

I'd suggest you buy from FCP Euro.

Haven't installed yet, wouldn't you have to drop sub-frame?

Yeah, apparently it was too easy in the B8, so I guess dealerships harassed them to make it not owner easy to do. :-) All kinds of bs to change the pan in a B9.

Yep, cleaned the magnets the first time and obviously didn't take the pan out twice, just drained from the bottom. Oil got just a hint darker the second drain.

Edit: Also to change the oil pan you need to remove the transmission subframe, so you need something to support the transmission when you change the oil pan.
