Have Akrapovic? Have issues with valves?

Want to collect info from those who have a Akrapovic system for their C8 RS6/7. If you have one, please post up.

I’ve heard from some people (customer and non-customers) as well as my own personal observations, but want to get it out in the open and document. Perhaps a solution exists and we can help each other out.

1. Problem free or valves are glitchy. Please elaborate glitch and in what conditions.
2. Stock or tuned (and if you’d rather not post publicly, please PM).
3. Other mods (CETE, Hi-flow cats, etc).

An example.

Stock profile: in extreme cold winter, after initial cold start, car starts with valves closed as per normal but a few seconds later, valves open then close immediately. Continues every few seconds until car got to temp.

Unitronic Stage 1 tune: valves would open shortly after start up and remain open. Would not change even when cycling through Drive Select. Valves behave normally once in gear. Revert to open when put in Park after a few seconds. When flashed back to stock, valves function normally.

Thanks for looking into this for us!

1. Valves intermittently open and close on startup in dynamic mode, moving it to RS mode opens all the valves. If I then put it back to dynamic it stays open.
2. Currently tuned on APR stage one but hoping to go to stage 2 soon
3. I have Akra exhaust and sound kit, CETE, and eventuri intake. I'm, adding CSF intercoolers and catless DPs

1. Valves keep turning on and off during driving or in P. Valves make a clutter open close sound for 30 seconds after locking car.

2 Car stock but have unplugged b1 port (I think) in Akrapovic module and valves open all the time

Could you please provide some further explanation on glitchy?

Valves will be intermittent at startup, which is typically in Dynamic. Will often need to hit the Sound Kit button to reopen them when I start driving.
After shutoff, the valves will rapidly flutter on and off for about 30 seconds or more.

Check the Akrapovic CAN connection box LED, at the end of the installation manual there is a troubleshooting page which goes over any errors and how the LED will respond. If all is well, it sounds like a tuning or CAN issue? Maybe remove CETE and tune and eliminate outside factors?

Yah, definitely something with the Controller Box or the signal seen by the box. Getting remote customers the Akra Scan tool isn’t the simplest thing for them to provide logs, per the troubleshooting guide section.



From the example I posted, pre tune, solid green and able to test valves. With tune, starts solid then starts to flash and unable to test. Remove flash, solid and testable.

Others with the fluttering have flashing light and have had boxes replaced.

So something strange is happening with signal controller sees. Plan is to test out other factors as you mentioned.

We have sold many and installed many Akrapovic RS6/7 systems now without issues. Even in multiple configurations (Exhuast only, Exhuast with factory scan tool lowering, Exhaust with factory scan tool lowering and VF tuning, Exhaust with CETE, and Exhaust with CETE and VF tuning.)

We definitely lower more cars with the scan tool versus the CETE modules, but I can say with the few cars on CETE modules with Akrapovic, some were stock tuned for a while until we tuned them. I know of one even with the Akrapovic valve controller system. No issues or errors here on the cars we have performed the installations for.

Your OP says in cold winter, I will admit in Southern California we do not really see temperatures below 50*F in our workshop overnight in the chilliest of winter days. It could even be a temperature management thing in the ecu programming?

Sorry to bump this old thread but I’m having a valve issue with my Akrapovic exhaust.

1) valves seems to be open all the time no matter what after tune. I can’t connect to sound kit with the provided controller nor the app on my phone. Getting “exhaust valve error, call manufacturer” message when connecting via phone app. Start up does the usually valve flutter on start up but it did that when it wasn’t tuned as well.

3) HFC, intake, intercoolers

Has this issue been solved? Are most replacing the box that came with the sound kit when this happens?

Contact your retailer and they'll be able to connect with Akrapovic to provide you with tools need for a firmware update. I know they have something that works for Stage 1 Unitronic and believe it works for Stage 2.

Car is not tuned, but have CETE AVC installed. I am not sure if it is because CETE installed, the valve sound can be found only under AUTO mode (which CETE does not trigger), there is no valve sound under COMFORM mode.

It seems to me that this valve behavior (on & off continuously) is part of factory setting, nothing related to Akrapovic as I am using factory valve modules not Akrapovic module.

Anyone a valves not open all the way? Im looking under neath. Turning onto rs mode The valve only opens like 1/10 of an inch. It doesnt fully flap open?

Since initial launch, Akrapovic has relocated the CANBUS sniffer that plugs into the controller which they say has a better connection to the car's signal. You have to contact your vendor to request the sniffer extension. The new location is behind the side panel in the trunk on the driver's side. To access this, removal of a good portion of the trunk's trim is required. Can be done at home if moderately handy but does require a firmware update for it to function properly. Would need to get that from your vendor or through shop that installed if they are a dealer.

Whether this fixes tuned cars is TBD.

Can't speak to this issue as it's not using the Akrapovic controller to move the valves. Akrapovic has a sound kit that plugs into the controller and allows user to have valves open when ever they choose in whatever drive select mode.

When you turn the car on, is the controller box green LED fully lit or blinking? I recommend contacting who you purchased this from so they can help diagnose the issue via software tools.

Actually fixed my problem. Was a poorly engineered bracket issue
