C7 A6 TDI Front Clunk Noise

    Hey all,
I bought the car in March with 30k miles on the clock and there is a rattle/clunk that I’m hearing and feeling at low speeds coming from the front drivers side. It happens every time I go over uneven roads or bumps.
Turns or straight or braking doesn’t matter.
I just replaced the sway bar end links and it didn’t change a thing. I’ve jacked the car up and everything feels tight. I’m planning on changing the lower control arms, but In my past experiences, CA’s start to creak don’t they? Basically I don’t want to throw money at a non issue like I have in the past. Does Anyone have suggestions or an idea of what this may be?
    TIA

Try the strut tower brace. I had a similar issue on my C7 S6, and it helped. Not sure if you have the same brace or not. If so, remove the rubber/plastic shelf in the back of the engine compartment, loosen all of the strut tower brace bolts, then retighten to spec. On mine, a couple were ever so slightly under torqued. When tightened, clunk went away. I was surprised at how loud of a clunk could be caused by that!

Also check the bracket that the ECU clips into. Mine was rattling around there and the washer fluid reservoir filler. I ended putting foam tape in both spots and no more rattles.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I tried them all, but the fix was the lower rear control arm. It looked completely fine when I pulled it out but once I replaced it, the clunky noise is completely gone. So quiet and smooth now.

Hello, I have the same issue. I am in the UK and get the rattle at slow speeds over uneven road from what appears from under the car under the left passenger seat. Was the control rear lower arm located on the rear axle? It has 4 prongs shape. Did you change both one on each side?

I am new to this forum and have also some other issues with a separate clicking noise turning left and right from standstil. I had it turning right since I bought the car 3 years ago @60k miles. Just changed the CV boots on front as both sides had spilt at 98k miles. Now at 103k miles since repair getting pronounced clicking noise turning the car in both directions. Think it might be the outer CV joints or the lower front arms.

    Any help would be appreciated.
