Question Purchasing my first B4 Avant Wagon - What am I getting into?

I am looking at purchasing a 1999 Audi A4 1.8 T Avant Quattro Wagon from Streamline Auto in Virginia Beach, they are asking $8,999 and it has 248,420 miles on it. I live in Lincoln and would have to fly out to purchase it and drive it back.

I know these cars are only worth $2,000-$3,000, however this one has all of the modifications done on it that I would want in a car, it seems perfect for me!

I'm wondering what I need to look out for and what I'm getting into if I pull the trigger on this car.

I drive 120 miles daily between Lincoln and Omaha Nebraska, and I'll put on around 30,000 miles a year.

From what I've seen so far I will need to change the timing belt, timing belt tensioner, and water pump every 60,000 miles or so.

Will this car work for me through the winter and as a reliable daily driver for this many miles?

Thank you for any replies, and I am able/willing to put the work/maintenance on this car to keep it on the road if I purchase it.

Also, does anyone know what this is?

I'm guessing it is for the airbag system. Anyone know what kind this is?

    this is a project car, not a 30 000 miles/year car.

also what are your local laws about mods ? Where I live, I wont be able to do a mile without getting pulled over and get the car towed....

yes the pad is for the air suspension, depending of the date of installation, I wont trust this for a 30 000miles/y.

If you want a luxury manual wagon , 'kind of reliable' , I would 100% go for a bmw e91 with the n52 engine. Those car got a 400 000 miles club page, since this is one or not the best bmw engine for reliability.
Part still available and cheap and most indy shop can work on E90 chassis in a day. Good luck with a B5 chassis, unless you can live with the car park for few days.

    And very resistant to rust.

way too modded for the miles and desire to daily it. agree with overdose about it being a project car. wait for something else. You can get a B8 A4 avant with less miles for that kind of money and youll be much better off.
