    Question about TTS vs RS5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I currently have a '18 RS5 Coupe, and have been wanting a TT mostly wanted a TT RS, but found a really nice TTS. The question is, will the TTS be as much fun, performance wise as my RS5, or do I really need to go up to a TT RS to get the performance?

I haven't driven it yet, as it's about 2 hours away, and haven't made a road trip to drive it. But we all know that TT RS are hard to find, and really gone up in price.

    Thanks,
    Steve

Near MSRP for anything below 15k miles, and 2020 and above are generally above MSRP for low mileage ones.

Short answer, when it comes to acceleration, no. The TTS is fairly quick, but it really lacks above 60/70 mph compared to the RS5 that just pulls at those speeds. We ended up tuning our TTS (APR stage 1) and it closed the gap a little around town between the TTS and RS5; but there was still no comparison.

As far as handling, the TT platform is clearly more nimble than the B9; and its no secret that the RS5 was really set up more as a grand touring car than all out performance.

I used to back to back drive the wife's TTS with my RS5; each great cars in their own right. Between the 2 I would choose the RS5; until you bring the TTRS into the equation then its hands down the TTRS over the RS5 (as a total package).

Bottom line, if you are leaning towards the TTS and you are ok with going the tuning route and dealing with that; you might be ok . . . .

I had a feeling that was where this was going to lead, I have no problem doing APR 1+, and intake on a TTS. I would rather a TT RS, but the way that the market is, everything is way over msrp, and hard to find a nice one that won't really be overpriced. With Audi stopping import of the TT RS into NA doesn't help matters.
Also saw APR has a new drop in turbo kit that would probably be a game changer, don't know though.

I have to agree with previous post
The TT-RS is the shinning star

But there is a lot of benefits to the TTS

The biggest difference is going to show with the highway acceleration between the rs5 and tts

But because of the layout and massive difference in weight
The TTS is going to give more go-kart like sensation

The tune will wake up the TT really well and close the gap, but even with the tune, the highway acceleration will favour the stock rs5

If you arent to concerned with out right pace, the nimble tts will feel more “fun” if you will

The other benefit of the TTS is overal lower maintenance costs over time

Best to drive one and feel it out so atleast you can get the feel for it and see which pros and cons best suit you overall and also look into just regular maintenance to paint a better picture for you for the future if you plan on making the change or keeping what you have over a longer period of time, unless you like to change vehicles frequently, then it wont matter quite as much

I haven't been able to get a test drive, as soon as I find one, it's usually sold before I get to drive it.
I'm really leaning towards the TT RS, because I do love the higher speed acceleration of the RS5, and knowing the TT RS is as fast down low if not faster and has more higher rpm power, it seems like a win-win on that front. I think the TTS would still be a good alternative, but after driving my RS5 and then having the wife's RS5, I might feel like I'm missing something.

Don't regret - TT RS all the way =)

TT RS will give you all the RS5 plus more with mods. 98% of the peeps just don't understand how fast a 600HP DCT AWD car is @3200lbs. If you want Track weapon, 1/4 miler, 60-130 roller, Half Mile, 200MPH - The tiTTy RS is a proper all rounder even these days.

Thank you, that is what I was hoping. I'm pretty much going that route, I have some buyers looking for one for me.
