Question CTS BOSS 500 (B8) why not on B7?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What are the reasons for the CTS BOSS 500 turbo not being listed for the B7?
Asking because B7 turbos are often sold for B8 so why not the other way around? Is it perhaps because of the included fittings, that those wouldn't fit? Seems like a minor concern in the scheme of things.
Looking at the images of it, it seems one would have to fabricate an intake and maybe modify the pipe towards the intercooler slightly.

The best thing to do would be to email CTS, they usually respond pretty fast. But most likely, like you said, it being the "accessories". Aftermarket k04's are always listed for both, so can't see the actual fitment being an issue. May just need to Fab a few things. But id just shoot them an email. But for the same price, you could get the ATP 2871r kit, that has b7 fitment. Same power level, and no ??. And comes with a Garret gtx2871r, which is proven..

I emailed them a while back. Just got a response of the type of "doesn't fit". No further detail. I guess a sales clerk, not somebody with know-how.

If it fits the b8 it’ll fit the b7. Biggest issue is the engine mount. That’s why they say it will not fit. The steel passengers mount offered years ago will make it work. Same issue with the all garret turbo options. The atp manifold will not allow the 2871 to fit unless you change the engine mount that’s how those kits were originally produced I believe it was branded as “red label” kit which included the steel motor mount.

You mean the engine mount or the engine mount bracket is different on the B7 vs B8? One would have to fabricate a new bracket or mount?

It’s somewhat both. The bracket is massively oversized. And the bolt which attaches the motor mount to the bracket sits exactly where the oil turbo drain is. So like the Garrett turbos which never installed the oil inlet/drain to be at 90* from horizontal it’ll sit on an about a 15* angle and not perfectly straight where it should be. A shorter motor mount and a custom length bracket would ultimately be the best for every b7 chassis.

At that point it kind of defeats the purpose with a direct fit turbo like this: sure it lines up to the cat flange, but then what...

Well, thats why its not a "direct fit" for the b7. Didn't even think about the mount/bracket. That does cause issues with lots of bigger turbo setups.

Has anyone tried to fit one on a b7 yet to see if it's possible without too much modification?
