My 09 just does. Don't think it's anything I added

Sent from my SM-A125U using Audizine Forum mobile app
It's to the point where all the problems just run together in a spider web of disappointment and mush.

Yep, should just be default. The only car we have had that did not do that was my wife's 05 A8.

Is there any way to show it by default besides being stuck in "D" drive all the time? I do use the paddle shifters every now and then and only then does it show the individual gears

Which car are you asking about? It should be updating the gear at the end of the "List" after the "s"

I know how to do it. I coded my 2006 A6 to do it. It's so much better than seeing the silly "D". I need to get the info out of a note on my phone. I will post it shortly.

I could not find my notes on how I did it on my C6 but I found how I did it on my C7 (2013). I used VCDS. Not sure if the process is identical but here you go.

    - How to show current gear in display instead of just “D” or “S”. Go to “02 Auto Trans” and then to “Adaptation”. In the top dropdown box select “IDE04111 - Single gear display” and then in the dropdown box beneath it (the “new value” box) select “D on/S on”. Both of these dropdown boxes were originally empty. When I clicked “Do it” it said the old value was “D off/S off” and asked if I wanted to replace it with “D on/S on”. I clicked yes. Then an error came up saying adaptation error and that it was an uninitialized control module etc. The options presented were yes, no and cancel. I selected yes for VCDS to use the default values of 12345/123/12345 instead of “No” for VCDS to try the values currently in the module”. After I did it , it said the controller accepted the values. It now shows D1, D2 and S1, S2 etc.

Are you talking about the chime for when you don’t have on your seatbelt? I coded mine out using my Vag401 XTool. I don’t know how to do it on this car with my VCDS. But I did use VCDS to turn off the chime on my 2013. Here you go. Not sure if you have this tool.

    This is what I did.

    - Go to Diagnose systems
    - Go to Common systems
    - Go to “17 - Dashboard”
    - Hit enter to go past the next 2 screens
    - Go down to “07 - Code Module”
    - It will ask “ECU Coding: Code Control Unit?”
    - Hit enter
    - There will be a Code at the bottom
    - My original # was 02129263.
    - You change the next to last number to change the seatbelt chime. So I changed the 6 to a 0 to turn it off. So my new code is 02129203.
    - Go through the steps to accept the change and then hit escape to get back to the main screen
    - Turn ignition off and unplug tool
    - I think you can change that digit to a “2” to make it ding 5 times and then not ding again.
