    2002 1.8T Immobilizer Issue

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    I changed out my ECU with a same number and letter. I damaged my old immobilizer EPROM when attempting to desolder it and it can not be used. What can I do or some else do to delete/code/reprogram the new ECU. The ECU that is new to me and in the car is fully functional and will shut the car off after start, as it should as the immobilizer/transponder no longer communicate well. Audi stated they will not service anything older than 05. Local Euro shops won’t touch this issue. Any guidance would help.

    There are places that will defeat the immobilizer in the ECU. Usually runs from $50-100. You'll need to send them the ECU.

    You will need a cheap eBay VCDS cable and VCDS. You can reprogram your new ECU by getting the SKC from the cluster using VAG EEPROM Programmer using this link.

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...1#post11451530

    You will also need the SKC of the new ECU so you can log into it to change the SKC to the old one using VAG K Commander using this link

    https://sites.google.com/site/imnuts/

    Once you get the SKC from the cluster, log into the new ECU and follow the instructions below in the Rosstech video to adapt the immobilizer info. Skip ahead to 3min 22sec for ECU adaptation.

    Another option if you are very DIY inclined and/or don't have VCDS;

    Make a bench-harness for your ECU (from connector of another salvaged harness) or just clip all the needed wires to your ECU to replicate a harness connection;
    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...-your-me7-ecu?

    All of the needed nefmoto and tunerpro software is free;
    Use nefmoto command line ME7-EEPROM softare to get into the ECU via boot-mode connection and copy your EEPROM .bin data. Once you have the EEPROM copied to your computer, you can either use ME7-EEPROM software commands to disable the Immobilizer in the EEPROM or else use a .bin editor such as tuner pro to make the immobilizer-off changes manually and make any other changes you might want in the EEPROM such as setting softcode to match your car (if ECU was in car with different transmission type or FWD vs AWD change) and you can re-set the VIN number in the EEPROM to match your car. (search nefmoto forums for more info on how to do this). Once all the needed changes to your EEPROM are made, update the files checksum and then flash it back to the EEPROM to overwrite the EEPROM data that was originally on the replacement ECU. With immobilizer set to off, you dont get the theft deterrence feature but it will run fine for you without ECUs SKC matching to the cluster. Alternately, you could also use bootmode copy and tunerpro to change the ECUs SKC to match the cluster SKC if you want to keep the immobilizer functioning. If you can get the EEPROM .bin downloaded but get stuck and need help with editing the file, I or others here or on Nefmoto can likely help.

    I appreciate that as well. You guys are much more knowledgeable than I especially with the Tech portion. I am going to give this some thought. Thanks again

    You will need to pull skc from your new ecu and the original cluster. once you have both pins you can adapt using VCDS.

    I think this has been covered before, but is there a thread out there if you just want to eliminate Immo? I don't see too many thieves interested in stealing a $2000 car.

    You will need to do some research;
    start at; http://nefariousmotorsports.com/foru...p?topic=5068.0

    this guide references the software available at;
    http://nefariousmotorsports.com/foru...p?topic=1168.0

    Post #400 of this thread ( http://nefariousmotorsports.com/foru...63836#msg63836 )
    has info on a GUI for the command line software that is easier to use if you are not knowledgeable with using command line programs.
    GUI is at http://nefariousmotorsports.com/foru...66037#msg66037

    Also a good thread;
    http://nefariousmotorsports.com/foru...c=6134.0title=

    These threads all from nefmoto forum board where you can find additional immobilized info;
    http://nefariousmotorsports.com/foru...php?board=42.0

    It is also possible to turn immobilizer off by directly editing the EEPROM.bin file rather than using the EEPROM tool commands.

    Alternate method to deal with immobilizer I have not ever tried, use VAG K+CAN Commander software which can be downloaded from
    http://nefariousmotorsports.com/foru...32469#msg32469
    Anyone know/verify if VAG K+CAN Commander can write to the ECU EEPROM via the OBD port or is bench harness & bootmode still needed to write to ECU EEPROM?

    I could have used that option when I lost my only key ~5 years ago! Now I have four Immo-matched keys, but I still think about killing it any way.

    In my opinion its better to have than not at all. Ask any B5 s4 owner that had their car stolen. Many were stolen some more than once because those cars did not have immobilizer in USA but in Europe they did indeed have immobilizer fitted. They should of came with immo here if you ask me. I had a B5 s4 granted mine was never stolen however I did fit immo chip to the dash and ecu from a parts audi a6 so the car had immobilizer thats the only thing that kept it from getting stolen. Granted at this point in time, not sure anyone would want to steal such an old vehicle but it still does happen.

    There are plenty of specialty shops that offer such solutions, me7.5 has a 95040 IC eeprom that stores all relevant data. Piece of cake.
