    B9 S4/S5 3.0T Turbo Failed

So I am new to the forum here and I am trying to see if anyone else has had any similar problems.

I have a 2018 Audi S5 that I purchased used and after 5 days of driving it, the turbo on the car failed. Audi said it had turbo codes and I most likely will need to replace the turbo. I am ordering the turbo off a different dealership's website because it was cheaper to that than to purchase it over the phone through my local dealership.

I am wondering if this has happened to other B9 3.0T owners? Has anyone here swapped a turbo on these cars and would like to provide some advice? Do I need to buy any additional parts to reinstall a new OEM turbo successfully? Do we know what is causing these turbos to fail? I did not have Audi run an inspection on the vehicle because I did not want to pay $1,000 just for them to tell me my turbo needs replaced. BTW I haven't had a chance to look a the vehicle because it is currently in Audi's procession.

I haven't seen much information on here for this so I'm curious to what everyone has to say.

Additionally, I am doing this because Audi is not covering it and quoted me $5,000-7,000 plus inspection cost.

Most of your install related questions can be answered in this thread (https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...l-on-B9-S4-S5) but no there's nothing that technically needs to replaced just to swap the turbo but depending on WHY it failed you might want to consider turbo lines and other parts.

    1. Always get a PPI before purchasing a used vehicle and even a new vehicles with low miles that was only a dealer test drive car, it's like $200 depending on the shop

    2. Turbo install at a Euro shop will be significantly cheaper than at an Audi dealership ~700 potentially so just find a reputable one.

    3. I've seen very few failed turbos just for the sake of failing or even being tuned on the B9 platform but turbos fail on any car for a multitude of reasons.

I think I covered all of your questions.

Yeah you answered all my questions. I will search that thread for more install information. Appreciate the quick feedback! I might purchase a new V-Clamp that goes on the turbo & downpipe just to be safe.

I see you have a TTE710 on your S4. What tune are you running? This route did pop in my head when I knew I had to replace the turbo but I run 034's tune and they haven't released there stage 3 tune yet. Plus I probably shouldn't put anymore money into this car since I have only drove it a hand full of times.

I have a custom tune from my local shop for the TTE710 but I'm also waiting for both the 034 stage 3 tune and my inbound TTE810

Isolated turbo failure is not common. Presumably you're out of warranty and that is the reason you'll be out of pocket? Can you comment on whether the car was tuned prior to your purchasing it? Or, you tuned it right after purchase and coincidentally, the turbo failed?

Well according to Audi, they said they have had a couple 2018 S5/S4 with turbo issues and whenever something brakes on the turbos, the entire unit needs to be replaced due to its design. DailyDownshift on YouTube had a turbo issue with his b9 as well, but Audi covered his.

034 Stage 2 tune flashed about 3 days before the turbo failed, so must of just been bad luck. The vehicle was completely flashed back to stock before it went back to Audi, but it still received a TD1 code.

I just ordered a new OEM turbo from Audiusaoemparts.com
