Recommendation for Quiet All Season Tires?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This is going to be a fun one!

I'm looking to replace my Continental DWS 06 with some good tires. Pref one XL sidewall but QUIET! I'm going to be driving back and forth 3hrs and the road noise that these tires cause is horrible. I did check alignment and wear and it's just getting much worse close to end of life.

I've also seen some new tech that they are putting inside the tires for EV => https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiret...s&gclsrc=aw.ds

So I want to know from experience what is the quietest / best all-season tire that I can get ? Or maybe add the noise foam stuff inside the tires.

I am kind of surprised you don't like the DWS06. I put them on my minivan I like them so much. Road surface has a huge impact on cabin noise as does the tire size itself. You can try increasing pressure or sidewall thickness. I have tried yokohama Avid acend GT in the past , it was not noisy at all in my opinion , but DWS06 offers up superior wet traction

+1 on Conti DSW06. My favorite all season tire. Also like Michelin all season forgot their name

Recommendation for Quiet All Season Tires?

I’m a huge Continental fan, DW06 or previous generations, never felt that they were at all loud throughout their life. (Maybe a suspension/bearing issue?) That life is historically short ~15k miles, but prorated, and they would handle inclement weather till the end.

Decided on a set of Michelin AS3+, they were about 30% more $$, and good dry/wet (when new), but, downright dangerous in the snow at anything under 60% tread, made my DW06 look like snow tires. They are done at 20k miles, never again.

Add me to the Conti DWS fan list. I've had 3 sets of them, and one of my favorite things about them is how quiet they are. They're good in snow too. I get about 50K miles out of a set.

Bought a set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS4's for my kid's A4 before an 1100 mile road trip ($843.48 for a set of four 245/40ZR18). Love them so far.

Love my Conti DWS06+. Would I love dedicated summer and winter tires? Yes. Is a little 2.0T 4-cylinder in a 3,900lb vehicle with 7" of ground clearance worth having dedicated tires? No. All seasons are just fine for me.

I am absolutely impressed with what I put on my A4. This tire is great in the ice and snow and kicks ars in the rain. Never noticed any noise. So....

i've had good experience with Vredenstein and Kumho tires, good affordable prices and they are quality tires. and they have a grand touring model which should be better for a daily driver, quieter and more comfortable.

I haven't had a great experience with Kumho. I had them on my 07' Corolla and on my 13' allroad when I bought it. On the Corolla I had a sidewall bubble even though I never even hit a pothole. Same thing with my allroad on the driverside. The passenger side had very abnormal wear and the rubber was unusually sticky with rocks getting stuck in and parts of the rubber being pulled out (photo & video below). For shits and giggles I tried pulling a rock out and an entire chunk of the tire came out. One problem may be a one-off. Two problems both with the sidewall are concerning. Three problems with the final being the unusual stick rubber made me say no more to Kumho for the rest of my life.

Video showing all the tiny slashes and missing chunks of tire

Multiple chunks of tire missing with the main part where the rubber is very black and sticky was a rock that was making a clicking sound while driving that I pulled out. These Kumho tires were dated 2019. Photo was taken August 2021. Rubber in tread looks to be dry-cracking only after 2 1/2 years yet below the surface is really sticky.

hmm i guess there's still bad ones out there, i've seen cases from some other known brands having similar sidewall issues. but the rubber being that soft/sticky is weird, haven't seen that. and i guess the line of tires makes a difference too, kumho has a cheaper model, but they have better ones with much better reviews. my experience is with the Kumho TA91, ran it on my A4 about a year now, they are 255/35/19 low profile too, here in NYC roads and thru winter, etc. and have held up great. and i have a friend who ran the same ones on his TSX and now on his Q50 for awhile now, i've had a good experience with them.

We have DWS's (06 I think?) on our A4 now as 3-season tires. They did seem a bit loud when new but got quieter after ~500mi of break-in. It did seem odd as I don't remember that happening from previous versions of the DWS.

I'm super impressed with Nokian WR G4's All Weather tire. Tire has functioned excellent in all weather conditions especially snow. I had Conti DWS06's and these out
perform the DWS06 in every condition.

I was running Ecsta 4x. Not sure where that lands on their high or low model.

+1 for Nokians. I ran their previous model, ZLine all seasons for awhile and they were great. i'd consider these too, whichever you get the best price on.

Thank you everyone. I was reading reviews on each tire but my concern is they are all SL loading rating. After having an incident with my DWS06 exploding you guys told me only buy XL rated tires... I'm have that as a requirement :/

LL: Light Load; tires for light usage and loads
SL: Standard Load; tire for normal usage and loads
XL: eXtra Load; a tire that allows a higher inflation pressure than a Standard Load tire, which increases the tire's maximum load
RF: Reinforced—for Euro-metric tires, the term 'reinforced' means the same thing as 'Extra Load'

Load ratings depend on size and profile, said another way, DW06 (and others) have multiple load ratings available.

Comfort and road noise are so subjective with tires.
OEM - Conto DWS06 - wore quickly and very noisy after just 20,000 kms.
Mich. Pilot Super Sports - excellent but got noisy and rough after about 45,000 kms
Mich. Pilot AS3+ (current) - good comfort and not much noise.

I've also had two sets of Mich. XICE 3s for the winter on this car (2015 A4 Sline - 212,000 kms).

Other factors for comfort and noise:
    - if you have sport suspension (Sline), it will not be as comfortable/quiet as a standard suspension.
    - tire size....yes, you can increase the side wall for extra comfort, but i've found the wider the tire, the more road noise. I'm on 255s.....a 235 would be quieter.
