RS6 and car seats. 3 across? Rear facing?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,

I’ve been rolling with my baby and toddler in the back of my Carrera T but my wife is pregnant again and due in October! So I’m looking for a new daily and family car show ride. But I can’t find any posts on car seats and the RS6.

How does a rear facing seat fit in the RS6? Is there room for 3 across? My 4 year old will be in a Wayb Pico harness thing and he can go in the middle.

Please post pics if you have them and what car seats work best.

    Thanks!!
    Josh

I had my 8 year old in the middle of a rear facing and front facing car seat and it was very tight and he was uncomfortable. Also the center seat doesn’t have its own anchors so I couldn’t move one seat over

I have 2 Britax Advocate seats in mine and my wife (4’11 petite) cannot sit between the seats straight. Maybe if you had the “thin” car seats or even boosters but the car is not wide enough for 3 to be comfortable.

Agree with this. Same setup and also tiny wife...and she can't fit comfortably. In our Q7, it's no problem at all with the same 2 car seats, but no go in the RS6.

I think someone said they did get 3 across, but they bought some special narrow ones from Europe.

There are several narrow car seats available and approved in the US that can fit 3 across. It will be tight but doable. i have Clek Fllos and have been pleased. Any of the Clek convertibles should fit 3 across as they are quite narrow. You will have to use seat belt to install in the middle since there are only LATCH points on the outer seats.

Edit: I will also say that I have the Britax seats as mentioned in other posts in this thread. I run those in my Plaid. They are excellent car seats as well but much wider than the Clek.

I have the Diono 3R and they are good. They are heavy because they have steel frames.

Thanks guys! I should say we won’t be 3 across with car seats. My oldest will be in a Wayb Pico which is like a harness seat. So I think we should be good.

Can you guys post up some photos of your car seat setups? Especially rear facing?

Not sure about the RS6, but with the RS7, the sport seats make even one forward facing car seat a tighter fit than in my old A6. Not sure if comfort seats are better.

RS6 and car seats. 3 across? Rear facing?

These Radian 3RXT fit 3 across but haven’t tried mounting them rear facing. Not sure how far back they lean in that configuration.

Side note.. since the picture I realized you could remove the rear head rests which work better.

Yep. You have to put a screwdriver or something narrow on one side and push the button on the other to take it out.

The slot is designed to fit the physical key which works well.

Here's a pic of the US-spec driver side seat looking at it from the trunk to try to explain to anybody else. Push the big button with a finger while jamming the key into the little slot (can vaguely see mine on the right side of this pic).

Thanks to both of you for the explanation and pics! I have been running the tether for the car seat around the headrest. Now I can go under, which will be better from both a safety and aesthetic perspective.

Unless the front seat passengers are under 5'9", I don't see how you are going to fit even one rear facing seat in this car.
Isn't the recline of that baby seat going to to force the front seats upright and forward?

I’m 5’10 and my rear facing child fits behind me. It’s tight but it works

Thanks for sharing this. I missed it when I read the manual. Looks much tidier. Love the things I find out via forums.

For those are trying it with the key, I couldn't get that to work, the slot is the right size but there was no movement. A flathead screwdriver worked fine. May have just been tight because I'd never removed that headrest before, imagine the key might work a second time around.

Same here, it's close, but fits no problem.
