I know a lot of people trying to run quads with a different valence. Well, youtube was of little to no help so I tried different setups on my car and let me tell u… I think I found the best bang for ur buck.

    * Car has 2 resonators and a muffler, for the purpose of this guide I will call the resonator at the front of the car resonator 1 and the resonator in the middle of the car resonator 2.

Keep factory resonator 1, delete resonator 2, y pipe for quad setup, and replace factory muffler with magnaflows or flowmaster flow fx. This will give the car a deep growl with no drone. I tested on the highway and daily drive it, perfect setup.

DO NOT delete ur muffler without replacing it with another muffler(s), on these cars removing the muffler makes it sound airy and spacey. DO NOT delete or replace resonator 1 with vibrant resonator like I did. It droned like hell past 45mph and it sounds very good without having to do that anyway. I wasted $100 trying to do stuff with a new resonator 1 but factory was plenty good.

-Tips I chose ran me $180
-Magnaflows were $100 each so u can save money by going flowmaster flow fx ($50)
-Total cost of everything including labor ran me about $950 (including installing the new valence)
-my dumbass wasted an extra $100 trying to change resonator 1 so don’t do it unless u’ve heard it on another setup

What's the difference between deleting Resonator 1 compared to deleting resonator 2? Looking for sound/drone qualities. Any noticeable earlier spool up with the Turbo by removing a slight restriction?

If u have a completely stock exhaust, deleting resonator 1 will make it slightly louder but it will drone at higher speeds. Deleting resonator 2 if that's all u want to do makes the biggest difference. There is almost no drone and its a huge increase in volume compared to stock. I haven't done a turbo muffler delete nor have I installed a cold air intake yet so I can't rlly hear the spooling of the turbo anyway. If u want to hear turbo spool just do a turbo muffler delete and cold air intake u should get plenty of turbo noises.

Thanks Ganta, just picked up a A5 Cab and looking to give it a little more sound, don't want it too loud and usually with Turbo cars any exhaust restrictions you delete helps slightly in spool up.

Good luck, keep this thread posted if u decide not to y pipe. Should help others as I had to mix different things that I heard on youtube to get this nice deep sound.

Hey Ganta, which variant is your A5? 2.0T? Auto or Manual?
I think my taste is very similar to yours, so if you have a video that you can post showcasing the before/after sound then that'll be super and would help me in making my decision a lot.

Ganta, from what I understand there is no performance benefit of a Y or H pipe on a Turbo or supercharged car, maybe a little deeper sound. I've got a Y pipe on my RS5 and S5, I would say the S5 (3.0t) now sounds better but no performance gains noted except maybe a little weight reduction, Y pipe definitely weights less than the resonator.
And then if we're talking about an inline Turbo 4cyl where the exhaust gases are all mixed early on in the Catalytic converter and then separated later for a Dual exhaust look there can be no performance benefit to a Y pipe as you just mixed all of the gas pulses into one early on besides the fact that it is a Turbocharged engine.

I have a B8.5 A5 and I just decided to go with an AWE Quad tip set up with an OEM S5 rear valance, just because I thought it looks cool. The sound isn't really very loud at all, but the stock exhaust system was ridiculously quiet, so I wanted to at least be able to hear my exhaust and the AWE definitely has a nice, low rumble to it. Sounds about as good as I can expect from a 4 cylinder engine. It's not inexpensive, but I think it is well worth the price.
