Let our voices be heard! We should not pay for Mechatronic Unit Failure

    Hey folk, newbie here.

I purchased my dream car C7.5 2016 Audi S7 in Aug 2020 (37000 miles) and after 6 months of city driving my transmission crapped out on me (40800 miles).

Long story short, it is the shitty 7-speed DSG transmission, and the mechatronic unit failed.

The nightmare began when I started to notice some random jerking when I pull the car from the red light a month before the car completely dead on me in April 2021. One time when I was driving on the highway at 70mphit threw a "transmission malfunction" code on my dash and put my car in Limp Mode (only1,3,5,7 gear available). I also experience gear slipping when putting the car in reverse, when putting the car in reverse, 9/10 times the R gear won't engage at one time I almost got rear-ended when the car suddenly stalled at a crossroad when pulling from a red light, because the car simply decided to shift in neutral instead of 2nd gear. I had to restart the car couple of times to drive it in Limp Mode and created a scene at a very busy crossroad. After I did some extensive search on this issue, I believe the mechatronic unit was designed very poorly and was bound to fail...which is ridiculous for a car that cost so much $$$ (shame on you Audi).

Had my local Audi dealer checked and they told me a new Mechatronic Unit needed to be put in... quoted me $5800 and a 2 month wait time because they need to order from Europe. And since my car was just freshly out of the manufacture warranty, I had to pay out of pocket. I ended up going to a local Audi authorized tuning shop and got a new one(upgraded in design)for $1000 less (freaking love NGP in Manassas VA). Since then the car shifts fine but not as smooth as before.

My point is, that we should not pay for something that is designed badly at the beginning no matter what the warranty says, and an issue like this can be a severe safety hazard. For some of you folks, this car might just be a toy but for most of us it is the only car we have and for the amount of $$ we spent, we expect the big components will hold up.

For folks that still have the warranty, I strongly encourage you to get the Mechatronic Unit replaced before it eventually craps out on you. Believe me, it will happen.

And regarding a recent event where HNTSA issued a Recall for the turbo oil strainer issue, I just want to say that we together can file complaints on NHTSA and let our voices be heard, and protect our financial interest and other drivers/pedestrians on road.

You can file complaints here: https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem#index

Let me know what you guys think, love to hear some feedback.

    Cheers and drive safe.

Is this case still ongoing? From what i've seen, latest action was in Sept. '22. And covers only 2010-2012 vehicles.

I have a 2013 S4 with what has been diagnosed with a mech failure. Who should I contact? Should I go to a dealer?
    Thanks!

Just putting it out there but I don't see why the thing is so expensive. I see there are kits available to repair it, are there no repair shops who can rebuild the unit? I've only seen one fail on a friends car and we put one in from a scrapped car. It shifted weird for about a month and then I guess it learned the car and began to work normally. the guy charged us $800 for the part and swap.

Maybe at one point we will have to have a "how to repair your mechatronic cheaply" thread.

It really does not look like a bad job to perform. A lift will help but can be done on your back and 4 jackstands.

Repair kits look like they mostly just have the wire kit and some hardware. New complete unit looks to be about $3K from ECS, junkyard runs typically $800+
