    4.0TT Intake Inlets

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
EDIT 12OCT23: Updated to add TGK Intake

Just gathering data and putting together a new comprohensive list since there isnt a clear defined collection of data on sizes of the various Intake Inlets for the 4.0TT

This is for the S6/S7/RS7 4.0TT OE Configuration, I know there is the SRM 3"'s for the S8, the large Turbo, and the A2A community....this is just to settle up in one searchable location the Inlet sizes/dimensions

So far we have commercially the OEM S6/S7, and RS7, as well as the SRM, and new to the market (April 2022) ECS Inlets

    Intake ID Compressor Housing ID
    OEM S6/S7 53mm 46mm
    OEM RS7 57.15mm 44.45mm
    SRM/VTT/FP 59mm 59mm
    ECS 57-58mm 55.5mm
    TGK 4" 55mm

Table updated with user provided values/data points

I have sourced a few different people on different forums to gather the info for me.....and the results are......interesting.

** Clarification on 3 different values for the Long Intake/Inlet ** What is interesting is the 3 different values for the SRM/VTT/FP intake/inlets I have received from 3 different people. Im sure one of them was just quoting the website figures of 2.5", which is 63.5mm, while another 2 people have provided me the other values. No photo confirmation, and they all were SRM branded inlets

update: received updated confirmation with photos of the ID of the SRM's

If possible, I will post up photos when I get a chance...and we can make everything known to everyone.

if you happen to have a photo you can send it to me, and Ill host on my Imgur account and host them over here to make them easily available.

If you have different values, please provide them here, and Ill update.

digital calipers preferred, but not required.

When I get home (later this year) I can provide Digital Caliper Inputs on S6 and RS7 inlets.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk

Has there been anyone who has already installed the new ECS intakes? They are price competitively. Looking to see if what quality and fitment is like compared to SRM ones? I'm surprised I don't see a dedicated thread on this new offering.

    Any initial thoughts?

Likely because they are so brand new and people are just starting to order them as an option; within the last couple weeks.

I’m sure in the coming weeks/months we’ll see more insights.

They look like a good quality build, but unsure of diameter and fitment. As you called out, Even with their additional intake kit that provides the plastic shroud, it’s a competitive price. Without the added system, the price is incredible; IF they are a competitive larger diameter.

Ive been back and forth, and will most likely be pulling the trigger.....but people like Tyler at TGK dropping their new front lip without talking to me first means that money went elsewhere.......

    lol

but alas, as in my other threads, Im not due to put the car into major surgery until maybe October, so its just a parts collection now. I couldnt speak to actual size, or performance....let alone differences between the two

If I get frisky, I may ask my local dyno to let me rent it for a few hours, and do static pulls between the S6/RS7/ECS.....dont know his schedule anymore and if they would even entertain it.

I’ll be installing these early next week. And can provide some updates when I get them installed. Will also be flashing the car to stage two.

Excellent news! If there is any way for you to confirm diameter measurements that would be great.

My ECS turbo inlets are on order as well. Maybe or maybe not I’ll have them paired to stock turbos or if I get RS+ turbos installed I can give some feedback. The inlets are going to be used with the CTS intakes on my car already.

    Not a big deal.

Unless you are running bigger than OEM RS7 turbos…

    This isn’t a big deal.

Just buy the intake you like and run with it.

Personally I prefer the OEM filter and airbox with a shorty intake.

Aftermarket air filters allow a lot of dirt into your turbos and engine.

Not good for longevity. Maybe run at the track with a drop in K&N filter, but not on daily driver duty.

arguments aside, there is no clear defined definition anywhere.

for the SRM or replicas websites say 2.5, but measurements here show otherwise.
    ECS just entered the market
lots of subjective dealings and hearsay to what is actually applicable.

I wanted to have one simple location to show data values and let people make their own decisions to what will suite them.

Ok sorry I didn’t have a digital caliper. But my buddy is bringing his over when we install them so I’ll have more precise measurements. But Intake ID looks like 57-58mm and compressor housing ID is 55. IMG_5999.jpg

I installed them yesterday, I posted my thoughts in the 4.0 T Facebook group. They fit extremely well, better than any other inlet that I have tried. The power gain on aftermarket turbos was huge as well.

It would be wrong of me to hate you guys, but I did buy full price SRM inlet pipes like a month ago, had no idea these existed. Enjoy these nice pipes that do the exact same thing for less than half the price. Mine are powder coated black! LMAO
Now all we need is an affordable a2a solution.

Max, when you have a spare minute could you share what’s the outer diameter of the inlets?

So it looks like ecs listed the inlet OD instead of the ID. 63 would be quite big.

either way...its the same with the SRM's....people are just regurgitating what is on their website at 2.5", but two sources have told me they measured 59mm on two different sets.....nothing close to 63.5

yes, we are arguing about 4.5mm, I however think they mean the OD of the pipes is 63.5mm

I still dont have any confirmed Compressor side ID measurements between the FB groups and here.

I honestly think the more the better.

I just want a clear defined database for anyone who is shopping around to have info.

I was having issues trying to find this info, and I might be a google ninja, but it wasnt easy to grab all the data that was confirmed or clearly defined

I have a before and an after log from removing my srm intakes on my s8. I went slightly faster with the stock intakes in both 1/4 with a slower 60ft and the 60-130. DA was better with stock intakes and knock was better since removed some timing from cylinder 7 from the ots map.

My inlets showed up while I was out of state. Boy are these things hefty! I gotta get a new caliper battery here when I go into town so I’ll update my posting. Debating on wether I should powder coat them for minor insulation from heat or not.

They are pre-compressor housing.... so I wouldn't bother with powder coating them.

PSA to anyone installing these. Since these inlets are as big as they are the one PCV hose will be rubbing on the casting. I’m redoing my PCV/ turbos this weekend so I’ll adjust the hose, but you will be needing the cut the hose down, so you won’t gain a leak later on. I haven’t seen anyone else say anything on this, so hopefully it was just on mine.

Also another PSA. The bottom/ or top however you look at it, throttle body bolt will not go in unless you start it first before the other five. It’ll hit the inlet.
    IMG_5202.jpg

Lastly I was able to attach the inlets to my CTS intakes. Temporary until my silicone couplers arrive. I’ll be doing a dragy run with these inlets now later today, so I’ll be able to compare how they do to the stock ones. I ran a dragy run yesterday so I have a decent baseline to compare off.

Nearly identical runs here; was a great comparison. Both runs were launched at roughly 2k rpm, dynamic mode as well, and on the same stretch of road.
First run is stage 1 with stock inlets

Second run is the next day with the only change being ECS inlets

Even though I just dropped an obscene amount of money (for me) on wrap, wheels/tire, this thread has me curious. Would I see any benefit from upgrading my stock inlets to the ECS inlets and sticking with stock airbox/intake? Currently stage 1 E85.
