Lightbulb Aha! Found the difference between the S8 engine vs the plus

**update...I'm an idiot and didn't realize the standard S8 = RS7 (not s7) and the S8 Plus = RS7 Performance. So the below info maybe moot**

    It’s actually pretty substantial imho:

    Different valves
    Different cams
    Additional water cooler
    Larger intake piping
    Turbos (duh)
    Etc

Since I am on the hunt for a S8, this swayed me to focus on the Plus

    Isn't that rs7 vs s7? S8 and s8+ have the same intake.

well yes and you correct on the intake but I was running on the impression that the S8 plus is running the rs7 engine (more or less) and the S8 was more akin to the s7.

No a8/s6/s7 all have the higher compression motor. All s8s and rs7 get a lower compression one. S8 have rs7 sized turbo but cast wheel, where the s8+ gets the rs7 billet wheel.

Not sure if there are differences more than that. You might want to see if the rs7 vs rs7 performance are any different. Since the s8+ and rs7 performance had same stock hp I think they might have same engine.

    16AudiS8+,

Do you happen to have a reference for that?

First I've heard that and just pondering out loud; 'Why would they make a cast wheel of a unique size for just the S8, which probably had the lowest production numbers of the related models?'

It is very plausible that the RS7 Performance and S8+ were PURELY software tuning changes... Whenever I see mention of actual hardware difference I take note, but I haven't seen any confirmed.

    Cheers

Do you have an s8 that's not a plus? I can give you the part numbers from my plus turbos directly on the turbo and you can compare. When you look them up you'll see mine match with rs7 and the non-plus is specific to the s8. I agree it's odd the s8 had different from beginning.

Yes I do, 2015. I looked up the parts on parts.audiusa, and they all show the same PN now superseding a slew of PN’s. Even if there are some different parts revs out there over time, not sure how we are going to track that to them having the high capacity wheel that was cast versus billet… could have been some other fairly trivial change that drove the part number revision.

So mine are 079145703r and 079145704r. Did you see those numbers in your supersessions at all?

    When u search on parts.audiusa shows fitment for 2014-2018 rs7, 2016-2018 rs7 performance and only 2016-2018 s8+.

Mine are the same part number rev O vs R.

The part system is not perfect and it still doesn’t tell us what the actual difference is. No I don’t see Directly on the web page that revR superseeded revO, but that’s usually how it goes. IF They really would be different materials in the same geometry they will make the same power up till the moment that mine flies apart … lol

Do you happen to have a picture if your wheels? Apparently can see picture and tell difference between a cast wheel and billet wheel.
