I submitted my claim in August 2022 - I am apparently still in queue with no ETA on review of my reimbursement for my indy performing the oil screen replacement

So I typed in my VIN on my new-to-me 2015 S8 on the Audi recall site. It states no open recalls. Can I safely assume that this recall was taken care of? My turbos are the Q version if that makes any difference. Unfortunately I don’t have the maintenance records to confirm and carfax doesn’t state anything but the previous owner was uber diligent with service

I would call your local audi dealer to confirm. They can also check the history of the vehicle if the turbos were replaced through their Audi portal.

Unbelievably, I just got a check from Audi today via mail for my full requested amount for the oil screen replacement I did with my Indy. No letter or anything just the amount I requested which was just over $3200. I submitted a letter explaining work done and full info of my Indy, detailed invoice noting all Audi parts used and labor. What is more encouraging was I also had my inlets replaced as part of the work and they covered that portion as well.

Good luck to everyone else still waiting to hear back!

I called back again today. Waited an hour and 12 minutes to speak with a representative, she couldn't find any record for my reimbursement claim. I mailed in paper copies last October. All of the previous reps told me my case was in queue to be reviewed. Long story short, she asked me to email copies while on the phone and told me the timer would start over and to expect 60-90 days before being emailed a decision. What a joy this whole experience has been...

I submitted all this to Audi of America in September, but never heard anything back. When I called they told me the oil screen recall was still open in the system and I’d have to take it into my dealership and have them replace it again and they’d close it out. I did this about a month ago and checked in with Audi of America again to make sure everything was good on their end and they didn’t need anything else from me. They said all was good and they’d review my claim when they’re able to but couldn’t give me a time line. I plan on calling to bug every 2-3 weeks and see what that gets me.
I just got a check in the mail for a little over $9k!

I was really surprised after waiting 8 months! I really didn’t expect anything close to a full reimbursement

Wow, that’s surprising knowing you replaced them with RS turbos, even OEM. Seems like others have been told after denial that even RS are not Original Equipment to the specific car.

Good on you! That’s a win

My RS7 has 19800 miles. Asked the advisor/tech about changing the PCV, AOS, Oil pressure switch, control valve and non-return valve as mentioned in this thread and both said I could and they would do it while they're in there for the recall for a little labor on top and obviously parts costs, but said they don't feel it's necessary with such low miles on my car. What do you all think?

I'm preparing to take my car in for the recall. I have APR stage 1 ECU & TCU tunes. Car is running perfectly and has 45k miles with oil changes every 5k miles.

I'm thinking about whether I should flash back to stock before I take it in. The factory warranty expired years ago but my concern is 1) if the tune will interfere with any of their diagnostics and testing and 2) what might happen if they mess something up and the car needs to go back for additional troubleshooting and then they try to blame it on the tune?

Also, I would also like to get additional parts like the PCV, check valve, etc replaced on my dime as a preventive measure. I'm assuming I wouldn't get the typical 1 year warranty on parts and repairs if the tune is there?

    Thoughts appreciated

I would flash back to stock just to mitigate risk. Could impact future warranty coverage in some cases.

If they do a full scan, they will detect that the ECU has been written and flag TD1 even if you flash back to stock. The ECU has a programming counter. If it doesn't match what's on the Audi home server, they know it's been tuned. Mine was flashed to stock and got flagged during PODS recall.

I believe PCV is covered by an extended warranty so I probably wouldn't do it if you are stock tune.

I checked my 2016 RS7 and no open recalls come back to the vehicle. How can I check my VIN to see if it's already been done?

You'd have to call the dealer to verify that

From what my service advisor guy said, and the guy above in the posts said, once you touch the ECU the "counter" goes up and youll be flagged TD1. I was flagged bc my RS7 was tuned through the Audi dealer years ago.

I also just had my PCV fixed and fully covered (May 2023) with a Stage 1 APR tune. Theyll only warranty swap it out if they can verify that the symptoms are in fact coming from the busted PCV AND you are throwing a CEL. Overall, your mileage may very if its covered no charge, as the advisor had to request my specific car to get covered under warranty because it was tuned. Good luck.

I just got my car back after the recall was performed and now my homelink/garage door opener no longer works. None of the three buttons work, the leds don't flash and when I go into the MMI it says system not available when I try to re-program the buttons. If I try to display the Homelink version info everything shows as zero. I know the front bumper cover has to be removed as part of the recall procedure and that the homelink transmitter is located by there.

Is it likely that the tech might have done something (or didn't do something) here? Would appreciate any thoughts before I go back to the dealer.

He forgot to plug the Homelink unit in. If you pull the cover off over the radiator (two push clips). You can look down by the crash bar and plug it in yourself.

Same here....10days ago.... I pointed out lots of info they apparently did not consider via email to Audi Talk who sent my the denial. I have received no response. A couple of my comments: 1) If it was not tuned at the time the work was done---is it still considered "tuned"? 2) If the potential for turbo failure was a KNOWN.. what was Audi's solution when they did not have a fix. Park the car and wait for a few years??..3) Pretty basic info that a "tune" has nothing to with oil flow or pressure through the screen. Any tech will back that up.

At the very least I feel that Audi should have an account for Goodwill. This is not my first Audi but it may be my last.... I'm not feeling so good at the moment.--I do have the S6 scheduled for the recall work--again.. by the dealer. Seems to be the only way to clear the recall notice. Lots of questions as they do the work. We shall see. 72K on the car. Running Stage 3.Love it!

“Outside the time parameters”? What the heck does that mean? How is that possible?

When did you have the work performed; before the recall came out, or after the recall was official and the letter came out?

I had a failed pcv and had it all (revised screen & separator too)done before the recall. It was done by Panzer Performance in South Florida. they also stated it had to be done by an authorized location.

no way I was gonna go stage 2+ and not get it all sorted anyway I guess.

They used some odd wording if it was denied because you used an Indy. Explains a bit more why it would be denied though.

Definitely a risk reward type of move. Sucks at the same time.

yeah... funny enough, the techs at Panzer run circles around the local dealer... ASE and Audi trained. would've been nice to have at least the parts covered (had the entire parts list they use, too) but life goes on.

mad at Audi but still love this car.

Had mine completed in March. Didn't do anything extra. Photos of the worst old screen (red rag) vs new (white rag). Turbos looked pristine, too.

Looking for advice, Just posted this on a separate forum heading.

Have a 2016, s6. Bought the car in 2020 with only 7k miles on it. Immaculate. Local audi tuning shop advised me to have the strainer repair which I paid for to prevent the known turbo damage. Now comes along the national recall. I apply for reimbursement with my invoices. When the car arrived at the shop, it was bone stock. While it was there I had sway bars and a tune applied in conjunction to the oil strainer repair.

Audi usa denied the repair, because the car was tuned at the time of the service even though the car was totally stock as the repair was made. Not sure what to do. I feel like I deserve to receive some financial return and audi used any excuse they could to not financially stand behind their product for a known issue. Any suggestions on how to proceed from here, ie small claims court, etc? Would love some feedback. This is my first audi, and not impressed with them as a company in the way they have handled this.

This is my first audi, and not impressed with them as a company in the way they have handled this.

    ntr
same scenario here. I had mine done with all oem parts (documented receipts for parts and purchases). I was told they denied me as I didnt use Audi to have it done. Wouldve been nice to at least get the price of the parts back. life goes on.

If that was your scenario, you should be able to easily fight it by logging a complaint with the NHTSA, if AoA doesn't do anything first with an appeal. No where on the reimbursement form/letter does it state you have to use an Audi dealer - that is the case ONLY when the letter was official.

I need to dig up their response.... I believe it was loosely worded that I elected to not use Audi for the repair while being under warranty (mine was logged in as failed by the indy shop)

check your VIN against the recall. Im not sure how you are going to work since you are not NA Audi
Take it in if you are covered
oil changes do not change due to the screen being updated

Im sure you used a translator service and things are being lost in translation, so if you could reword what you are asking that would be helpful

Always a nuance to every situation, not just plain and simple and rarely are two scenario's alike. This sounds different than legendnick... If it's true you were still under warranty, why would you not go to the dealer?

I had a build coming up and this was discovered during it. To be honest, I never want the dealer doing things to my car.

here is their emailed response to my petition for reimbursement.

So as I read the recall it covers 2013 to 2017 4.0 engines.

I am starting to look around for a replacement for my aging A7 and am intrigued by the S7 but when I look at the CarFax I am not seeing the recall mentioned or that it was repaired. Additionally I looked up a VIN from a 2013 in the recall lookup back on page 1 and it comes up as NO OPEN RECALL. I almost never see anything on the 2013 models and only a handful of the 2014 models.

If I find no mention of an open/closed recall and no mention of performing the recall, is there a way check if it actually was done / needed?
