    rs6 loudness

    Hi everyone,

I am on the waitlist for the 2023 rs6. I have not seen a real car so I have a question about the loudness. I personally enjoys loud cars. I know that many cars today are no longer as loud as before. Certain "preformance" and "emotional" cars that are supposed to be loud are not so loud. However, some cars on the other side like certain porsches, supercars, and some Ms and Amgs like the g63 or m8 can still be loud. So I am wondering the loudness of the c8 rs6? How does it compare to the cars I mentioned above? Is it still reasonably loud? Thank you!

My father in law has a 2019 G63 and the RS6 is definitely quieter. I added the Red Star resonator delete and it is now about the same as the G63.

I deleted the resonators and much happier with the sound.

I got the Red Star resonator delete as well and it's almost as loud as my previous C63S when it was stock. However, you don't get the pops and crackles on the overruns unless you downshift to 1st gear around 55 km/h.

I also did the secondary cat delete on my C63S and that made it much louder and better sounding.

Spend $20 and have the valves open all the time. Perfect sound IMHO

Thank you for the answer, is it a big difference? I can guess that g63 would be loud. But I know some newer Amgs are quieter by nature so that even putting a exhaust you would still tell that it's probably not loud stock. For example the warm start and the rumble at idel just can't be fixed. Is it the case with rs6 or would it be reasonably loud?

thank you for the answer. The c63 is definitely loud and I hope you enjoyed it. Would you say that the rs6 is quite, or is it still loud compared to some of the newer "preformance" card today? The c63 had a noticible rumble at idel, does rs6 rumble?

RS6 is, for me, perfectly reasonable stock. It’s not intrusive in the cabin at all and no drone. Wish they left the valves open a little longer on start up. I had a Hellcat and the exhaust was exciting but it droned on the Highway and the neighbors complained - I went to work at 5:30.

You're not going to be happy with the stock sound. Deleting the resonators helps a lot. IMO adding the Unitronic 1+ tune has helped the sound a bit. I'm going to 200 cpsi downpipes and I think that will get me to where I'm happy -- not planning on doing cat-back exhaust besides the res deletes.

The C8 RS6 is very muted. But it still comes down to personal preference - my wife loves it being quiet.

Way too quiet. Not as bad as my Turbo S stock, but sucks. Going to order a cat back exhaust...

This is the video I threw together of the car after I did the res delete and with the 400cel ResStar DPs. I really like the way it sound right now.

If you want to protect the connectors. Otherwise, yeah, don’t spend $20 on your $130k car. Just let them dangle in the muck and grime

You're telling me DANGLER69 doesn't let his own valve connections...dangle?? What a fraud. Admins, please force a name change here.

I gave up yesterday and ordered an IPE exhaust for the RS6.

When I picked up the RS last July, I installed the Red Star resonator delete and it worked great. Like anything else, I got use to it and I was looking for something with a bit more sound.

The IPE should be here in three weeks or so and I will report back once installed.

    Can’t waaaaittt.

Need two of each of these parts

two of these, but you can get this anywhere - FCP Euro has them, or any dealer

Thank you for the link, from my understanding for the process:

    1. I need to start the car in dynamic/sport mode with the valves open
    2. Shut off, then remove the 2 wires and replace with the 2 x 2 plugs

Yes, shut it off quickly. Look in there and confirm the valves are open.

If I'm using an aftermarket exhaust without the factory exhaust actuators, I would just need the two digikey's correct?

I don’t recall which ones go on the harness and which ones go on the actuators

The most you’ll be out is either $3 plus shipping or $11 plus shipping.🤡 Just order both sets

Thanks for sharing this info. I recently ordered (it is backordered) from Milltek plugs similar to this. The difference - they are really expensive - like around $70. Do you think they have the ability to stop soft codes from being thrown vs these inexpensive ones? I likely will cancel my order and get these.

If they have some kind of resistor, they would stop the soft code, otherwise no.

But why are you concerned with a soft code?

I also went the "cheap" route (see thread below) and so far works perfectly. You'll also need to seal the ends of each of the connectors...I used high temp RTV. I'm curious though, where did you see the link for the Milltek Valve Simulators (my Google skills must not be very good)? While my current solution works, my OCD brain kicks in and ideally would like a no-code option.

Probably shouldn't be concerned. Just like to keep it clean.

I found the Milltek plugs on the ECS Tuning site:

    https://www.ecstuning.com/b-milltek-...SABEgLaKfD_BwE

But for the money, the ones you listed look like a better option. The above only has a "pair" - so that would leave the other end exposed.

@Moyer, I just had the resonator delete installed today. Nice change from stock sport exhaust. Thinking about going all the way to downpipes. Looks like you've been running them for about a month now. Any regrets? Too loud when trying to make phone calls, etc.? Drone? Looks like there's a MASSIVE difference between when the valves are closed and when they're open...fair?

I got my 200 cell Fabspeed downpipes installed two weeks ago. WOW what a massive difference from previously just having the Redstar res deletes. Much MUCH louder. I've actually found myself using comfort mode for the first time for long highway cruising so the valves close because it's pretty loud otherwise, and switching into RS1 when I need to be loud.

Good to know! Can anyone help explain why catted downpipes are like 3x the price of uncatted DP's?? How are cats that expensive??

The precious metal prices used in them are through the roof. People even cut out and steal the cats from parked cars on the street these days.

Yep. I put headers on my sl55 & got almost a grand for the primary cats as scrap price. Left the secondary cats on.
